tbh i think ive grown somewhat more misogynistic by playing video games hey thanks Anita, for proving that fictional characters and actions make me behave like a wifebeating man :) i also look upon women as objects of sex and desire and nothing else at all
you're misunderstanding the video
You know women like games too, when they aren't being told they're fat, ugly, or slutty whenever they play them? You're gender policing right now by assuming that men = like da "real" vidya gamez and women = lol casual gamers cooking games.
Cooking Mama indeed is a game for chicks.
I didn't use the word white in my post a single time though
shit now I feel (and look) dumb. ownederd get over here
It's what angry little boys on the internet say when something disagrees with their worldview
Well, now that saying ~sanius squad~ is banable and dori's gone, they need a new boogey(wo)man
you do need a word for tumblr nutter though. like the distinction between atheist and r/atheist. having a word with the ability to reliably divorce transethnicity/otherkin-ism/multiple systems from discourse on, say, transgender issues is something we need. I propose "tumblrkin"
Tumblr is big and there are plenty of people on there engaging in productive discourse But tumblrkin is hilarious
If something is tailored to a certain target audience, sure another target audience can play, but they can't whine when they get their feelings hurt.
uuuh why not? if a game is blatantly racist because the creator doesn't intend x race to play it, that's okay? what???
shit now I feel (and look) dumb. ownederd get over here
that's cause ur white
I didn't say that, it's agreeable that gaming started as a male dominated hobby, more males played, and still do play more games than women. We can both agree on that, right? But what I am saying that she is criticizing games which are obviously not tailored for women. Action games are generally tailored to men.
That's the thing I think needs to change (and what Sarkessian should've brought up in the video imo), because it started as a male dominated audience, most games still are made with only a male audience in my mind, so obviously when a female demographic gets to play the game, they might have problem with it. Games should stop catering to only one gender. There are just as many women who are into action games as men who are into perceived "girly" games. Just my two cents. [editline]fuck[/editline] shit this thread is 2 fast 4 me
shit now I feel (and look) dumb. ownederd get over here
ok hi
"Rapists are oppressed"
They are though. And with good reason.
If something is tailored to a certain target audience, sure another target audience can play, but they can't whine when they get their feelings hurt.
the video game industry is growing way too fast to continue catering to a single gender
Cooking Mama indeed is a game for chicks.
that doesn't mean that's the only game women play or the only games they are allowed to play, should play, etc... that doesn't mean anything. If anything, your attitude is the problem, that girls should only be allowed to play "girly" games.
uuuh why not? if a game is blatantly racist because the creator doesn't intend x race to play it, that's okay? what???
Super Mario isn't blatantly sexist.
They are though. And with good reason.
ahahahaphphahspahokhsddsoksdpoksdaopshpkoahsahopkahkopfhsdpkosdahahopakhaopkhahpkoahpkoahpkoahahahhaahahahhahahahkahiosapahokahk no, rapists are people who have done something terribly immoral
Super Mario isn't blatantly sexist.
wow. two whole game series huh
uh ok so who's supposed to defend women if she's not alowed to because it hurt ur feelings?
How about actual examples of sexism in gaming, as opposed to saying that something like Super Mario Brothers or Ico is sexist. Or maybe allowing discussion in your videos instead of painting everyone as a "troll" (fuck does this word mean anything anymore) I have no idea where you got that this "hurt my feelings" (it probably just stems from the pompous holier than thou attitude some people on FP have), but I am in no way opposed to fixing problems of equal representation in video games. I just dislike Anita for her approach, and general non-transparency. Maybe I should start a kickstarter for a video series about how every asian character in video games is just a kung-fu triad. or are asians too privileged to be considered as oppressed?
who said anything about super mario
Super Mario isn't blatantly sexist.
did someone say it was? im confused
If something is tailored to a certain target audience, sure another target audience can play, but they can't whine when they get their feelings hurt.
Shouldn't this apply to men watching Tropes vs. Women then?
that doesn't mean that's the only game women play or the only games they are allowed to play, should play, etc... that doesn't mean anything. If anything, your attitude is the problem, that girls should only be allowed to play "girly" games.
Girls are allowed to play whatever they like, the problem is that they DON'T want to play what we play, they want us to stop playing what we play so they can play the same we play without being offended.
wow. two whole game series huh
Neither is any game brought up in this video, dude.
How about actual examples of sexism in gaming, as opposed to saying that something like Super Mario Brothers or Ico is sexist. Clocked in 8 minutes, she's hardly irrational as the majority make her out to be. However, she does leave out information. The Mario series with the damsel in distress trope are outnumbered by the majority of non-sexist games. Therefore the Mario series isn't entirely sexist; look at Super Princess Peach, Mario Golf, Mario Party, do I need to go on?
that doesn't mean that's the only game women play or the only games they are allowed to play, should play, etc... that doesn't mean anything. If anything, your attitude is the problem, that girls should only be allowed to play "girly" games.
But they are allowed to play all games, there is no law against it. If I wanted to get into something feminine , I can't complain that it doesn't cater to my manly needs. I'd be laughed out of the place inside a minute. If girls want games to cater to them, band together and create a developer for such games. Don't force your values on others. You can't police the games industry when it's a free thinking movement.
we get it, anita picks the wrong targets and clearly is not the best figurehead for the movement, no one is debating that lol. that doesn't make the whole thing a non-issue [editline]7th March 2013[/editline] then why are you talking about it
I'm not sure if you're joking at this point, but I'm saying that the games she brings up are not sexist.
we get it, anita picks the wrong targets and clearly is not the best figurehead for the movement, no one is debating that lol. that doesn't make the whole thing a non-issue
I never said this was a non-issue. When I say it'd be forgotten, I meant Anita's videos and this entire debacle surrounding her and her kickstarter.
Or maybe allowing discussion in your videos instead of painting everyone as a "troll" (fuck does this word mean anything anymore)
too be fair YouTube's community is absolutely awful you wouldn't be able to get a decent discussion going in the comments, even if this particular subject didn't attract so many trolls
Girls are allowed to play whatever they like, the problem is that they DON'T want to play what we play, they want us to stop playing what we play so they can play the same we play without being offended.
wow that's a hell of a blanket statement if I've ever seen one, and is incorrect
you know a video is good if ratings and comments are disabled
ahahahaphphahspahokhsddsoksdpoksdaopshpkoahsahopkahkopfhsdpkosdahahopakhaopkhahpkoahpkoahpkoahahahhaahahahhahahahkahiosapahokahk no, rapists are people who have done something terribly immoral
So? Does that mean they can't be oppressed? Being oppressed does not automatically mean that it's a bad thing that shouldn't be done. In the case of criminals, oppression is good. It's still oppression.
