Also the word "thief" is sort of a misnomer but it does piss people off that she made a shitload of money that should probably be classified as ill-gotten considering that there's no way in fucking hell that she's ever going to be able to spend it on the thing she was raising money for in the first place. Hell, even $9,000 is way more than is needed to do this sort of research, and she basically made over ten times that, and she just kept the money. Sure, the people who gave her that money did it of their own free will, but it's still hard to not feel like it was unjust.
Asshole and douchebag aren't gendered at all, women have buttholes too if you didn't know and douches are just bad things. right here bb
But women don't poop so asshole is definitely bigoted!!
The one thing I'll comment on is they are well lit, well produced and well edited. Her intro is very good as well. other than that she looks super smug.
I'd struggle to find games where you could play as a really good Female role model, with a fully fleshed out personality and not just a pair of tits on legs.
Tomb Raider, Assassins Creed 3 Liberation, Borderlands 2, Path of Exile, Diablo 2, Diablo 3, Sanctum, etc. obviously there are less though as men make up most of the market for "hardcore" video games. Mirrors Edge...
sainus squad been here yet?
God dammit don't do this
Oh wait they already are. "Oh no! The Reasonable Opinion Squad! Everyone, hide!"
well you could start by reading the thread
I have read this thread and it just seems like that it's turning out like the usual threads about Anita (where only a somewhat small fraction of people are actually discussing points civilly and the rest is just shit posts and senseless arguing). I'm not saying there aren't any posts in this thread discussing Anita's video but again it's only a small fraction.

She asked for 6k. Go complain about the Ouya or something.
Asshole and douchebag aren't gendered at all, women have buttholes too if you didn't know and douches are just bad things.
Those words aren't used against woman very often though, at least from what I've seen.
"Oh no! The Reasonable Opinion Squad!
from what i've seen feminism in gaming =/= "if any female character isn't a 100% match to my insane ideals of perfection then she is a bad character"
yeah you fuckin nailed it there that's literally what everyone is saying
This might have been brought up but has anyone noticed how she only refers to games made 10+ years ago?
you play as a female in assassin's creed 3?
Liberation is the Vita spinoff, the protagonist is female in it.
Complaining about something that's totally out of her control does nothing and just makes it look like you're looking for a reason to criticize her. She asked for 6k. Go complain about the Ouya or something.
Well sue me, I got a number upside down. Correct me if I'm wrong but people doing kickstarters usually have the option to give the money back if they go over the target amount of funding. Also, of course I'm not looking for a reason to criticize her. Not only is it the reason that most of the people who hate her do so, it's also the only reason she's getting so much attention in the first place. Don't act like discussing that is off limits.
you play as a female in assassin's creed 3?
the vita assassin's creed oh no im late
you play as a female in assassin's creed 3?
On the psp vita version. Also I'm scarred to post in this thread. JUNIEZ!
you play as a female in assassin's creed 3?
Liberation is the PS Vita version.
On the psp vita version. Also I'm scarred to post in this thread.
the worst that can happen is someone calling you a misogynist pig for disliking any female for any reason.
the worst that can happen is someone calling you a misogynist pig for disliking any female for any reason.
yeah that's exactly what we're saying gOOD JOB
i don't really understand the point of these videos. does she really think the developers of the games deliberately try and make women seem as if they were lesser or something? 150k for shit that has been used forever (the damsel in distress, and other 'tropes' like that) in every other type of media is really pointless honestly.
She didn't necessarily talk about the games being sexist, just she discussed how the trope was constantly overused.
Liberation is the Vita spinoff, the protagonist is female in it.
cool deal
i don't really understand the point of these videos. does she really think the developers of the games deliberately try and make women seem as if they were lesser or something? 150k for shit that has been used forever (the damsel in distress, and other 'tropes' like that) in every other type of media is really pointless honestly.
I still haven't gotten the chance to watch the full video because this thread is going so damn fast, but: Generally when feminists talk about sexism ingrained in entertainment, or they talk about "the patriarchy", they don't mean there's some deliberate conspiracy against women. They generally mean tropes and behaviors ingrained in culture that are unintentionally sexist. (Excluding when they talk about sexual harassment and such) Something can be sexist without Dick Dastardly and Muttley wringing their hands behind a bush going "Heh heh, we're being sexist!" Another thing: although some things complained about by feminists as being sexist may be small things on their own, you have to look at them as part of a whole. It's a "the straw that broke the camel's back" type of thing.
This might have been brought up but has anyone noticed how she only refers to games made 10+ years ago?
Yeah, I have.
it gets better as you go on.
Since this thread is rapidly getting new comments, my severely idealistic notion of civil discussion is briefly becoming reality oh my god (even for a brief time).
Yeah I agree with her pretty much but there's something about it that doesn't quite hit the nail on the head, but i'm not sure what One thing I do disagree with though is her claim that the trope is just there to virtually live out a young males power-fantasy. Some guys and girls think nothing of it and just want to play the game Like, I understand she means well, but I can't help but think that maybe she thinks just a little bit too far into things
If you want an example of someone good at talking about feminism and woman in popular culture, Nostalgia Chick is a good example of someone who does a really good job at it.
She didn't necessarily talk about the games being sexist, just she discussed how the trope was constantly overused.
Was. It no longer is, unless you're talking about reboots of games she's already spoken about.
