For the sake of this, I'll assume he was referring to the stereotypical 'drag queen' makeup, but a guy wearing makeup alone is not necessarily a transvestite/transgender/homosexual, it could just be a guy in makeup.

The sad thing is that most people will say they support gays, but a mass majority to my knowledge actually disprove of them on a personal level. They feel that if they discriminate or dislike the preference of someone else they will be ridiculed and shunned for it.
And guess what, you're right. If you say a homophobic comment, most likely you will get some negative comments thrown back at you. Because it's such a controversial topic, everyone wants to push to be on the, "good" side to remain a "good" image of themselves whether or not the truly believe being homosexual is okay or not.
I for one am truly okay with it. I have family members and friends that are, and I am okay with it. I don't see the problem with it at all, it's nothing than a mere preference of sexual orientation. No different than liking a different type of food to me.
