Why does Metal music get attacked while rap music is praised?
Yes, there's plenty of decent rap music, not just idiots who rant about Superman-ing farming implements.
What that guy said.
That is exactly the same as saying all Rap is about money and bitches.
So why doesn't the argument work both ways?
For me, it could work.
I'm a huge metal fan, but damn I can listen to rap as well.
Um I've heard a lot more critisism against rap than against metal.
Every time a 'soljah boi' comes along you get OH MY GOD RAP SUCKS from everyone everywhere
Metal doesn't tend to get attacked with every release of a single.
I'm kinda seeing a whole lot of parallels in metal and rap in this thread, although it seems like people who love one genre completely hate the other.
Really though, they've both had their controversies, and if anything, rap music takes more media blame for society's problems these days. The only time metal comes up as a controversy anymore is when there's a school shooting or some other big tragedy, and the news shows will spend two days inviting guests who talk about how the criminals listened to some random metal band or played some random video game, and it's the cause for whatever tragedy occurred. Then in another week, nobody cares about whatever "cause" was mentioned.
The only people consistently attacking metal would just be extreme groups with a devout opposition to it. The media is a hell of a lot more concerned with rap today.
It's because I don't like metal, it makes me feel bad, while rap makes me feel good.

Believe it or not, even school shootings are starting to get pitted against rap now, instead of metal. Check it out:

All rap is about is abusing and raping women and degrading women.

No...it's not...might as well say, all pop is about stupid teenage girls, all metal is about satan-worshipping freaks.
YouTube isn't working for me, so if you were sarcastic, meh.
The majority of todays youth apparently listens to rap and really dislike metal.
So, the majority just attacks metal for being worthless crap.
To be honest, I don't give a flying fuck what other people think.
If I like a song, I listen to it. Then I don't care about the genre or artist.

If you had actually watched the videos, you would have known he was being sarcastic.

The world seems to think that Metal music is music of the "devil" and it is a bad influence on young people. OK, so i guess music that degrades women and talks about sex and rape is better isn't it. Who should listen to metal music? I mean, it only talks about life experiences and things lots of people can relate to. No but wait, I'd much rather listen to "super soak that hoe".
In my opinion, I'd much rather listen to Metal music than guys talking about fucking girls and treating them like complete shit. Maybe half of that reason is based on me being a girl. But seriously, how does music like that get praised and metal music frowned upon?
Is it just me or is society really fucked up?
Alot of metal music has shit about the devil and stuff.
Alot of rap has stuff about money and weapons etc.
But rap seems to be alot more mellow and rappers don't portray themselves with flames and ashes on their albums.

I dislike rap (number of exceptions). I dislike metal much more (not really any excepctions). Excluding rave, they're probably my two least favourite genres. Indie/Soft Rock all the way :D
And by the way, I picked those albums in my post for no reason.
It was just the first metal and first rap group I could think of.
But it really helped to prove my point.

Well the metal getup used to be the whole devil thing, and a lot of metal is about that. A lot of rap is based on gang related shit. The reason is the huge cultural difference between these types of musics. A lot of rappers(real rappers at least, not the shitty ones) grew up in areas like Watts, East LA, Broncs, D.C. and shit like that. Where there is a whole different cultural reign then that of a lot of mainstream punk, metal, and rock in general.
Also, I love that Kanye West album cover. It is sweet.
I know, I wasn't refering to the WHOLE of both genre's. I was just talking about the popular stuff of both.

I was also talking about the popular stuff. I am kind of explaining what you said in a way. Most mainstream metal has had that devil worshiping getup.
Where do you live? Where I live, if you dare listen to rap, you are attacked viciously by everyone. Now if you are a metal fan, you are UBER cool. Metal is totally like the best music ever and everything else is for homos.
Give me my Trance or give me death.

Where do you live? Where I am there are 3 groups of people:
- The Emo, Punk, Hardcore, Metal, and Scene kids(all grouped into one for some reason) Who hate anything rap and say "Rap is retard attempting poety" and that shit all the time.
- The Gangster people, who hate anything rock and say rock is shitty music.
- The stoners(who I would probably fit in best as far as musical taste goes), who don't give a fuck as long as they like the music. Tend to play hack a sack a lot.
I think this whole argument can be solved in 6 words.
Everyone just chill the fuck out.
Don't listen to mainstream rap, that's not true rap. Besides, all Metal is is screaming and songs about forcibly raping women and eating their flesh, like a Republican.
There is no true rap, it's all about rape and cars.
Edit:
And always sounds horrible. Some actually engineeer a really awesome track with good sound, but then butcher it with their ugly and annoying boasting and retarded lyrics.
Now.
To stay neutral, I will post a rap group and a metal group that I like.

Honestly, this is nearly as bad as 'holla2's thread. All that's going on here is people who like rap blindly defending it, and people who like metal making stuff up about how victamized they are. Face it, some people like your genre, some people don't, you can't force it upon them.
And as for this 'Metal getting attacked' it's always happaned, Look at Elvis Presely, Van Halen, The Beatles. There was even an instance in the 1800 where a concerto was released, and the audiance went mental, they hated it, but today it's considered a classic. Sorry I can't remember it's name.

Where I live, we've all grown up and don't hate each other becuase of what muisc we like. My best mate loves blues, I love musical theater, Another very good friend of mine is a massive chav and listens to his hardcore trance stuff.

It really depends on the group. You also have rappers like the Jedi Mind Tricks, who rap about stuff like "I'm the one who hammered the first nail in Jesus" :downs:
The bad thing is just that everyone associates a music style with it's mainstream artists. Not every metal group is like Manowar or Slayer, not every hip-hop crew is like 50 cent or Souljah Boy.

Exactly, take this for instance

a very intelligent rap. He uses every shakespears' play titles/sonnets
It both sucks, they were both neat in the beginning but over time they all started sucking worse and worse.

I'm against all rap really but you have it wrong, not all rap is like that.
I know all kinds of music but metal has lyrics about sex and rape too. You should really listen to all the music out there, not just your panic at the disco or whatever you kids listen to nowadays.
Maybe half of that reason is based on me being a girl.
Also, I don't get why that's needed, we are talking about music, no one gives a flying fuck about your gender, sorry.
No special attention for you
A small down deep in the southern US of A. Where ironically, if you listen to country, you are cast out of society as a retard.
Isn't country from the west and Texas and those areas though? A better ironic statement would be "if you listen to blues, you are cast out of society as a retard".
Also, most country these days sucks anyways, old country was the shit, now it doesn't seem to stand up.
