Bwghahaha Maybe you should read the lyrics.
I know the lyrics from memory. I learnt them becuase at easter, each teacher does something to win loads of easter eggs, my english tutors' was to name the most shakespear works, I just mumbled it to my self and wrote down all the names. Edit: It can be hard to spot some. And it doesn't use any of the varations on history, like Anthony & Cleopatra. "call it urban, call it street/A rose by any other name, smell just as sweet". Sound familiar?
I think he is talking about the actual meaning of the song, not just the words used.
The song came to be when he was on Radio 2, and the DJ challanged him to write a song referancing all of shakespears plays in 15 minuites.
The song came to be when he was on Radio 2, and the DJ challanged him to write a song referancing all of shakespears plays in 15 minuites.
So? It still has a deeper meaning then just some shakespear references.
Like Garry said in a past blog, not all rap is crap. You just have to get past Soulja boy and 50 cent
A lot of rap is about money, power and respect. And so? That's pretty much who the genre is, of course there are other (like L.O.C.) who don't rap so much about money and so, but instead make it more philosophic. Something I often see are threads like this, metal fans blaming rap for making the society worse. But I never see the opposite. So if you say that rap is just about rape and cars, I can just reply and say that all metal listeners are aggressive people that can't respect other people's meanings about music. And before you blame rap for being about rape and sex. Try to think about where rap came from! In the urban of USA's big cities where the black people were put aside in the society. Rape, shootings and crime were everyday things. But instead of just killing the afro Americans (sorry if anyone got insulted) started to battle with their voice instead of with their hands. So the rap "culture" have roots in a place where rape and crime was normal, this ,of course, reflected on the style and music, just like some German music is about this great cheese they just made. Or some feast music about how great the birth of the new goat is. Should we blame them for being simple? Should we blame rap for a government that didn't respect them? No, we don't. And on this "all rap is about rape and cars": Very little rap is actually about rape, and I doubt that Puff Daddy and Snoop Dogg rape people. By the way. I don't actually listen to rap, I just feel like I should say what I mean.
When Tupac and Biggy died, rap died, end of story... Metal on the other hand, I like metal more than rap, because because I grew with AC/DC and rock and stuff, then one day I heard The Trooper by Iron Maiden and one song led to another, and that's how I became a metalhead...
Example: Example:
Funny how you pick Slayer of all the Metal bands out there...
I listen to metal, as long as I can actually hear what they're singing. That means no to growling and all that kind of shit. I also dislike fast drums. I listen to rap, but I stay away from 50 cent and people like him.
I hate rap for one reason: 1. Mainstream rap takes no talent to make. Listen to something that 50 Cent makes. All you need is Fruity Loops and Audacity to create something like that. I could make it, my brother could make it, anyone could. I can't like or respect something like that when it really isn't special. I swear I heard a rap song, in which the musical portion was just two notes being played behind a simple beat. THAT is what I really hate about it. Yes yes, I know there are artists that make really good rap with technical songs, but I don't know of them. I would listen to them for the talent, but I just don't like the sound of rap anyways. Being an elitist metal head who listens to mostly Ensiferum, Finntroll, Moonsorrow, Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody, Svartsot, Turisas, and Wintersun, I could say that I'm pretty much set with my genres and what not. lol we ruined our schools "Battle of the Bands" by bringing our black metal band in. While everyone else was playing normal rock and roll, we blasted out some black metal and stirred up much trouble with the faculty when we told the audience to rise from their seats and come up to the front of the stage. And they didn't let us bring a coffin on stage...
Awesome post here
I actually agree with you on that. I'm listening to some Slipknot right now but can't some rap be okay? I mean like Kanye West, his 'songs' aren't about rape or treating women like shit now are they. Atleast I don't think... I admit listening to Kanye once or twice, even Linkin park with Jay-z. lol. But yeah on topic again from my slight derail about my choice of music, Metal gets alot of haters from Chavs and wiggers and such, and rap gets hated by Metalheads and punks, the hate level is mostly the same y'know. That's really just my opnion, other people would think differently. And i'm not saying all that for ratings 'k? Also anyone who says to the OP "You're a girl :o can I daet you?" sucks bad.
I don't get it. The world seems to think that Metal music is music of the "devil" and it is a bad influence on young people. OK, so i guess music that degrades women and talks about sex and rape is better isn't it. Who should listen to metal music? I mean, it only talks about life experiences and things lots of people can relate to. No but wait, I'd much rather listen to "super soak that hoe".
Am I the only one who caught this? The metal I listen to tends to be about Middle-Earth or the Iliad, or some other old epic stories or mythos that have very little to do with life experiences or anything anyone can relate to. At face value, of course.
Am I the only one who caught this? At face value, of course.
Metal bands about Cthulhu are good. :zoid: :cthulhu:
Metal bands about Cthulhu are good. :zoid: :cthulhu:
Should've known I couldn't say 'mythos' on Facepunch without a Cthulhu reference.
Not all rap is like that.
The Sugarhill Gang doesn't count.
Why is it that some people go against mainstream? I mean really, some have to make a stand. Preach how incredibly bad something mainstream is, make their voice heard. Thus of course helping them become an social outcast. I generally don't like rap, I can however listen to it.. It's not like I try to fake vomit as soon as I hear it just to make sure that others get that I dislike it. ( I also generally don't like Metal, but pretty much all my friends do. I can still however be around them when they listen to it. )
Alot of metal music has shit about the devil and stuff. Alot of rap has stuff about money and weapons etc.
Metallica, the god of all metal, only talks about real shit. ..And Justice For All is talking about corporate corruption in the Government, Blackened talks about Drugs and how they're destroying the world. Ride The Lightning talks about the Death penalty.
I agree with you because where I live, metal is taboo. I never hear it talked about as a genre of music, and everyone regards all metal as deathdoom, the Satanist shit. I'm a metalhead, and I'm like the only one in my area, as far as I know. Even the hardcore goths I know hate metal. One of my goth friend's reasoning?, "Dude, I hate metal; All that Satanist shit creeps me the fuck out...". Fucking generalizations. I understand metal is a dying genre, but it's still popular in some regions of the world. On that note, HammerFall's Genocide has an imbedded meaning, discussing the death or "genocide" of the metal genre. Has a lot of great analogies. I love it. :) Edit:
Am I the only one who caught this? The metal I listen to tends to be about Middle-Earth or the Iliad, or some other old epic stories or mythos that have very little to do with life experiences or anything anyone can relate to. At face value, of course.
You listen to Power Metal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_metal
Power metal's lyrical themes, though as varied as metal itself, typically focus on fantasy and mythology (eg. Rhapsody of Fire, Blind Guardian), comradeship and hope (eg. DragonForce, Lost Horizon, Highland Glory), war (eg. Manowar, Sabaton, Iced Earth), personal struggles and emotions (eg. Sonata Arctica, Evergrey) or combinations of the listed themes. Many typical metal themes such as anti-religion and politics are comparatively rare but not unheard of (eg. in some Falconer songs.)
HammerFall is Power Metal. I also listen to Industrial/Goth, however, as seen by my avatar. :)
Metal hasn't been seriously threatened for quite a while now. Look at Lordi, for example. Though not really the heaviest of metal (or are they actually metal at all?), they won Eurovision with the highest amount of points in the contest's history. The only bitching came from the Greek judges who thought of them as Satanic, but that's like asking an old fart what they think of "dat new-fangled rock n' roll"
Funny how you pick Slayer of all the Metal bands out there...
If you read. It was just the first band I thought of.
Where do you live? Where I live, if you dare listen to rap, you are attacked viciously by everyone. Now if you are a metal fan, you are UBER cool. Metal is totally like the best music ever and everything else is for homos.
Finland?
Simply put? Because people are fucking morons who will follow in the footsteps of their peers just to be accepted.
It doesn't as far as I'm aware, usually it's rap music that gets whined about for being shit or about violence and guns and whatever.

There are a lot of rap tunes in the top 40 that have pretty crappy instrumentals, but 50 Cent isn't one of them. He's got excellent production. Here's one of his songs sans vocals: It's not terribly complex, no, but being technical is not the same thing as being good.
I hate them them both. Metal is most times too intense, dark sided, depressive. Rap is just plain stupid, not real music, just bitching about everything around.
Most music is bitching about everything, be it women, other people, women, your life, women, or how much you suck. Rap often simply does it more directly.
Metal is most times depressive.
Ha ha, when I read that, Ensiferum's Lost In Despair started playing. Irony at it's best.
All of people seems to think metal is "the devils" music. Personally, I hate all types of music expect for anime, video game music and a few selections of rock.
Most music is bitching about everything, be it women, other people, women, your life, women, or how much you suck. Rap often simply does it more directly.
with mah hoooooes
Rap is usually the genre which gets attacked of these two, mainly because lots of people have only heard mainstream hiphop/rap. I don't actually care what music people listen to, as long as they don't make me listen to some crappy metal music.
