Why does Metal music get attacked while rap music is praised?
These stereotype profiles are often incorrect and probably even made up. Most metal-listeners I know are pretty clean, they take good care of themselves and are upbeat. I don't know what's up with people these days. If you listen to dark music, then do you have a dark soul? No!
They both get attacked and praised by different people. You can't just generalise like this.
The man above me speaks like a god. I enjoy both genre's, "Metal" get's attacked as much as how many people don't like it and give a shit enough to slander it. Same goes for rap, they're two differnet genre's. Different people have different tastes.
Same.
OP: you've got to be kidding. Metal isn't even considered culturally relevant anymore, it's a niche genre at this point. The media is not attacking metal. It seems like a victim complex is a big part of metalhead/goth culture (which is also true of hip-hop culture)--understandable since both the genres have served time as public whipping boys for the media.
But metal is past its prime. From the media's perspective it's simply not worth attacking because hardly anyone listens to it.

Also, if you're genuinely interested in a feminist perspective on gangsta rap:
What are you on about? Millions of people still listen to metal everyday.

Pff you guys need to stop taking that so personally. There's nothing wrong with not being in vogue.
I'm just saying metal peaked in popularity about 20 years ago. Where are the Metallicas and Marilyn Mansons of today? The closest thing I can think of today is Dragonforce, and I'm not even sure they're a household name either.
No one said racism, you just called it Negro music...
Because that's what people call it around here.
Because that's what people call it around here.
That's not what we call it on Facepunch. Don't do it again.
I love Rap and I love Metal. I'm not so fond of metal like Pantera and such though; I'm more of a death metal/deathcore/metalcore sort of person. I'll listen to any genre of music though.
I prefer 80's-90's stuff like NWA and 2Pac, or more underground stuff like Immortal Technique.
Edit:
Also, TH89, I don't agree with you; Metal is still firmly going, it's just a bit less mainstream.
I guess it depends where you are from though.

Slipknot! But yes metal has lost it's popularity.
Slipknot = 90s
Also, negro isn't a derogatory term.
Slipknot = 90s
Yea but there still amazing, if you consider Avenged Sevenfold metal there popular.

That's what I said. Metal's not DYING or anything, it's just not a significant part of the pop culture landscape anymore. It's not going to get scapegoated because not enough kids listen to it for people to be able to say "look what it's doing to this generation!"

Really? There overrated.
Oh, sorry TH89.
Avenged Sevenfold is the product of 10 year old 'moshers' thinking Slipknot is the heaviest metal since Osmium.

I really don't like them, there not good!

I like Dragonforce's Power Metal style, I think they sound good and they have very skilled people in their band. Most Metal/Speed Metal/Power Metal bands members just keep their hair long just for the effect when they shake their heads :v:
I keep neutral towards rap. I don't hear that type of music, but I respect it.
Firstly it is the rap culture. Personally I think Metal culture, if you can even call it that because it is so diverse is better. Rap culture appeals more to teenagers who make up a large portion of its fan base.
Secondly its the people who listen to metal. I hate to generalise because I am a metal head but where I am most people who like metal are Goths [Who have never really been in with pop culture], Emos [Who are only just getting into pop culture but it is a minority] and 'nerds' [Who because they are more intelligent than most people will never be in with pop culture].
That's one of my many opinions.
Sure thing mate...
Goths tend to listen to industrial music.
Emo's listen to Emo music (well, most of them don't, as real emo music died in the 80's).

I disagree, the more metalcore stuff like Trivium, Lamb of God and so on is pretty much in the mainstream, and has replaced the more traditional type metal that existed in the charts.
I don't get it.
Rap music when it was good: I got love for my brother, but we can never go nowhere, unless we share with each other. We gotta start making changes, learn to see me as your brother stead of two distance strangers.
Rap music today: 20 four inch rims and a bitch on my dick yo, fake ass niggers trying to hate me but they can't stop me nigger i want some pussy
It's the difference between Tupac and other rappers.
Tupac was (and still is) the best rapper ever.
I disagree, the more metalcore stuff like Trivium, Lamb of God and so on is pretty much in the mainstream, and has replaced the more traditional type metal that existed in the charts.
Trivium and Lamb of God aren't metalcore.
Trivium and Lamb of God aren't metalcore.
What would you say they are then? And even if they're not, the point still stands that it's a different type of metal in the charts now than what it used to be.

Well, I think the litmus test is whether my dad has heard of them, and I am pretty sure he hasn't--it's much easier to scapegoat music artists when they have a high profile in the news.
Trivium and Lamb of God aren't metalcore.
They are according to wikipedia and AMG
Every day I become more convinced that the only reason metalheads invented so many different subgenres for metal is so that they can argue about it all the time.
why can't all genres just get a long
why can't we be friends
why can't all genres just get a long

Rap doesn't need friends.
We got shiny cars and ice on our wristsssss

Metallica and Marilyn Manson are still liked by millions today.

They're not culturally relevant anymore.
Yeah! I totally agree with you. \m/ But most good metal is underground anyway, if its totally sold out like dragonforce, it tends to be horrible and more about the money.
Most rap these days sucks, and has pathetic lyrics and music.
Did you know that Soulja Boy made Crank dat with FL Studio (Frooty Loops)
I mean, that's pretty pathetic that people like it, I can shit out better music and use any random loop in any program that would sound better and have more emotion and meaning than crank dat. But most people just like it because it's easy to dance to and pretty simplistic.
However, NWA is actually good rap and should be praised.
