Why does Metal music get attacked while rap music is praised?
Uuueehhh. I don't know about that.
I do
Bebop and its ilk, at least--repetitive chords and comping with individual instrumentalists and vocalists taking long solos in between refrains? Which am I talking about :v:
Why would I hate a jazz musician? It's Jazz man!
You're backed into a corner now, whats your next move sir?
what
There's always going to be musicians you don't like in any genre.
If there isn't, then you clearly don't listen to the music for any reason other than to be pretentious and annoying.

I just listen to it because it's jazz, It's jazz man!
Okay I don't listen to jazz, I go out at night to seek out trains and record them as they go past and put them into a collection to listen on my tape player.
I'd much rather listen to rap than metal to be honest. Having someone sing about the 'hood' is much better than having someone scream about death etc
I'd much rather listen to rap than metal to be honest. Having someone sing about the 'hood' is much better than having someone scream about death etc
Rap =/= singing about the hood
Metal =/= screaming about death
Damn generalizations. :argh:
I listen to rap and I constantly get annoyed by this asshole who thinks I'm trying to be black. :rolleye:
Anyway, I feel that rap gets attacked way more than metal does these days. Attacking a genre of music is just silly & pointless. v:)v

Well just because you prefer it doesn't mean it's BETTER, it just means it's what you'd rather listen to

Okay, well, bebop, sure. But I was thinking of more traditional swing-style jazz. That's usually what I think of when I think of jazz.
Edit:
Like the jazz that we play in my school's jazz band isn't repetetive, really. I'm used to pretty dynamic jazz, not repetetive chords. Well, maybe repetetive chords for the guitar player, but the horns have pretty dynamic parts. The drums don't, but I make it that way anyway, since I'm the drummer and I like to have some variation.
No you must yell your opinion very loud and beat everyone else into submission until they share your opinion.
That's what i'm sayin' bro
He's just don't want to get banned for using the real word.

The video was a reply to cr34t1on. I just don't feel the need to quote someone who posted directly above me.
Oh. Yeah, that song sucks.

Yeah, swing's definitely another case entirely.
The only reason I hate rap is that every single "gangsta" at my high school listens to all of the mainstream crap, and my sister listens to crap about two girls robbing a bank and shooting the clerk. Also, she's 18, she's old enough to listen to that stuff if she wants.
I'm not saying all rap is bad. I'm just taking a guess form every single rap song I've ever heard, which has been all mainstream.
I myself am becoming a metalhead, probably because of influences from my friends and Guitar Hero.

I'm sorry, but that just made me laugh.
I hate rap for much the same reason as you. As to the sister bit, since when was there a legal age to listening to music involving killing people?
:raise:
See, that's exactly what I've always theorized
You can't kill the metal, the metal will live on.
Sweet, lets judge music by the people who listen to it.
Hey, while we're at it, let's judge entire ethnicities on our experiences with just a handful of them.
You can't kill the metal, the metal will live on.
Fuck yeah!
Behind these walls, we deem
To take hold of the dream
To live our lives as we please...
METAL GENOCIDE!
No fear!
We know the end is near!
One day we will retaliate...
Gen-O-Cide!
Fall! Mighty Babylon!
Your might is declining!
You're on your knees;
Repent your sinning.
Fall! Beyond the realms of Hell
We are born again...
About the decline of metal (the "death" or "genocide" of metal)
Metal may be dying, but it will never be dead!
I won't let it.
What's gonna take metal over? Metal is so damn unique it will never die, there just hasn't been much rock band legends this last decade.
The band I'm in hopes to bring back some good ol' rock into the metal world in a unique way.

As long as someone somewhere is playing it, no genre can be truly dead :patriot:

Oh my god.
You have a fox in your avatar.
What is wrong with you man?
I don't get it.
The world (my world anyway) seems to think that Metal music is music of the "devil" and it is a bad influence on young people. OK, so i guess music that degrades women and talks about sex and rape is better isn't it. Who should listen to metal music? I mean, it only talks about life experiences and things lots of people can relate to. No but wait, I'd much rather listen to "super soak that hoe".
In my opinion, I'd much rather listen to Metal music than guys talking about fucking girls and treating them like complete shit. Maybe half of that reason is based on me being a girl. But seriously, how does music like that get praised and metal music frowned upon?
Is it just me or is society really fucked up?
Rap music summed up in five words: Nigger, ho, bitch, pussy, rims
Rap music when it was good: I got love for my brother, but we can never go nowhere, unless we share with each other. We gotta start making changes, learn to see me as your brother stead of two distance strangers.
Rap music today: 20 four inch rims and a bitch on my dick yo, fake ass niggers trying to hate me but they can't stop me nigger i want some pussy
( INSTABANNED Used the word nigger )
I believe that you have "rap" mixed up with "overplayed marketing stategy". Rap is still good. It's just a bit harder to find.

Wow, mis-spelling simple words.
All genres have fans and haters, some more so than others.
I remember posting in this thread, jeez it doesn't feel like that long ago
And as TH89 said I don't really see metal music getting attacked much anymore as the majority of people have no exposure or knowledge of it these days
It always mystifies me how people can take this attitude about music, and at the same time have no problem watching billion-dollar movies at the theater instead of obscure indie films, or reading stuff like Harry Potter or The Da Vinci Code instead of books nobody's ever heard of. Why the double standard?
I know this post was made ages ago, but personally I think it's because people have a bigger 'connection' with music than most other media.
I know that music is much more important to me than films and books which is why I'm much more picky, and more willing to put effort into finding obscure music than obscure movies and books.
Media controls alot of things, and they often try to influence the popular opinion, and successfully usually.
Alot of the things marketed as Metal and Rap are not good indications of either Genre.
There's millions of sub-genre's of Metal, and there are various types of Rap.
I personally don't like Rap, but I can appreciate it's appeal to people to those who do like it.
