Helping bitches do they physics. bitches love physics
wait, the skin effect? isn't that only AC? Unless you're talking about something else.
Yea, only AC. The effect gets worse the high the frequency. At mains frequency it's pretty much unnoticeable (i.e. 50/60hz), but if you get into the KHz range it starts to matter.
Im majoring in aerospace engineering and i might also add physics on there. Is my favorite subject.
Im majoring in aerospace engineering and i might also add physics on there. Is my favorite subject.
If it's your favorite subject why are you majoring in engineering?
Larry Gopnik you are physicsing wrong Larry, stahp
snip whatever I just didn't get it right
Larry Gopnik you are physicsing wrong Larry, stahp
does that equal sqrt(0)?
Johnny, with a physics and chem discussions popping up, and the electrical engineering thread in one of the other sections, maybe ask Garry for an education sub-forum?
Johnny, with a physics and chem discussions popping up, and the electrical engineering thread in one of the other sections, maybe ask Garry for an education sub-forum?
I think they're fine here. Still don't think there's enough people that actually are going to discuss these topics. Hopefully I'm wrong though.
Doing Technical Physics/Applied Physics/Engineering Physics/Pure Engineering. What do I say when someone from the US (for example) asks me what I study? Apparently a lot of countries don't have it, so they always ask "Is that like mechanical engineering?" or along those lines. There has to be something similar, right? [editline]6th February 2013[/editline]
there used to be a science subforum but it got blasted because it wasn't active enough so i doubt it
Don't think there'd be enough topics to warrant a subforum. The stuff that is up for discussion is usually not the basic things, so not many have the knowledge to discuss it.
If it's your favorite subject why are you majoring in engineering?
Just because you have a favorite subject doesn't mean that's what you want to do as a job.
Engineering Physics and Applied Physics sounds most correct. I know there are Engineering Physics programs in the US. Also, you're at KTH right?
Engineering Physics and Applied Physics sounds most correct. I know there are Engineering Physics programs in the US. Also, you're at KTH right?
Yeah people seem to understand eng phys or pure eng best. Yeah Teknisk Fysik, first year. If I recall correctly, you're second year IT right? If you see a guy in a cool fedora, badass trenchcoat and sandals with socks, that's me (ok not really, brown short hair and dressed normally, like another 2000 or so people at campus, we've probably seen eachother passing by I bet). Wish I was at KTH more though, we only have 1 course that isn't at Albanova or hidden in the woods at the M building.
Am so yellow about you guys. Atm am studying basic Physics and Mathematics for collage. I considering go on KTH (Kungliga tekniska Högskolan) in Stockholm after am done. Not sure yet what program to pick, so far it seems like Teknisk Fysik (Engineering Physics.) is the best choice.
does that equal sqrt(0)?
Could be used for some sort of calculation trick, we did this "and now we add a zero" stuff all the time on Theoretical Mechanics [editline]6th February 2013[/editline]
I think they're fine here. It's not as hard as everyone says, not at all, but it's harder (or at least more intensive than) most other programmes.
Y Yeah Teknisk Fysik, first year. If I recall correctly, you're second year IT right? Also yeah it's Datateknik, the IT guys are over at Kista. I wish I had more courses over at Albanova, that building is seriously awesome. Feels so good walking inside there, like you're actually in some modern research building. Although getting there is a pain in the ass. Heh I can imagine the 8:00 lectures.
Am so yellow about you guys. Atm am studying basic Physics and Mathematics for collage. I considering go on KTH (Kungliga tekniska Högskolan) in Stockholm after am done.
it's not hard if you LIKE maths and physics, because revising your material will actually be fun and won't be a chore; that's p much the only thing about maths, you need to revise so your foundation is very solid and you know what stuff does
If you like the stuff and listen during lectures, study time -> 0. Well depends on what you want anyway, for an E just listening to lectures and a hour a day does it perfectly fine. If you want A, well then you'll be hunched over the books a lot.

I like the small details though, like FR4 having the ceiling lights arranged like a rising sun (alba nova means new white, also can mean new dawn). Getting there isn't that much of a problem, buses go there quite often thankfully (still not as good as D or E, that's very close to the metro). Also yeah Tfys is regarded as the hardest and best as far as I know, while the other two are high up too. Generally you also get the plus of saying what you study and people looking at you like you won a Nobel or something (which again, isn't really right since it's not that much harder than all the others).
Adding this to my list of frequented threads, Good stuff Johnny! I did a non-calc physics course both semesters last year [89%, 82%]; was pretty fun, though I didn't put in as much effort as I would have liked, given that my focus was on maths. :v: Have a few first year textbooks on physics; photonics in particular.
If you like physics, math and programming, go for it. It's not as hard as everyone says, not at all, but it's harder (or at least more intensive than) most other programmes.
If you would compare it to something like Datateknik, what's the difference? More physics and math, less programming?
If you would compare it to something like Datateknik, what's the difference? More physics and math, less programming?
Yeah definitely more physics and math. It's a fucking shame they're removing multivariable calculus and the particle and waves course from Datateknik, I mean holyshit engineering without multivariable and at least one physics course? I seems to me that they almost want to make it a pure Computer Science program without the Engineering part. I just got there in time when stuff was still intact.
Nice to see this thread with the math one floating around. I've got my PH-312 midterm on Tuesday and I'm a Physics major. My professor is an applied physicist that does nanocrystallography. He's very German, as is most of the department.

Teknisk Fysik, though, looks really hard to enter. The required score is almost the maximum.

And don't slack on any of your courses. If I didn't fail my religion course I'd be doing Teknisk Fysik as well :v: If you still fail to enter with the grades you can always to the Matematik & Fysikprovet. Or the Högskoleprovet.
What about taking a "basår"? According to Umeå Uni, a successful basår gets you a guaranteed spot in a engineering program of your choosing, including Teknisk fysik. (oh wow all these Swedish words) [editline]7th February 2013[/editline]
Tekniskt/naturvetenskapligt basår i Umeå ger platsgaranti till följande program eller grupper av program: biomedicinprogrammet, civilingenjörsprogram, högskoleingenjörsprogram, jägmästarprogrammet, naturvetarprogram.
Source

Yeah basår works as well. However I think you still have to perform well to get a Teknisk fysik spot, because I imagine loads of the basår students are going to pick Tfys.
Then again, if it's KTH you're talking about, I'm betting the circumstances are completely different. [editline]7th February 2013[/editline] I myself plan on migrating to Sweden, take a basår, do my darndest for a year in order to get the qualifications for Tfys. It's going to be tough, but very interesting.

Yeah, well there's of course the Högskoleprovet, I'm going to be taking that for the first time this month (I'm in second grade).
Frankly, the only thing I'm worried about considering a basår is that I don't know if i'll get any student benefits. Would any of you Swedes know any more in that area? Because if I don't get any student benefits that year, I'm gonna be knee deep in shit trying to get the money to last.
