I bought the Viewsonic Gtablet. The stock rom blows so much ass that unless you flash something different on there it isn't worth buying.
So I bought it and haven't regretted it. It's got insane battery life (watched 2 movies today, streamed a ton of music, played games for about an hour, browsed the web, and it's still at 30%). I bought it not because I think it will ever be able to replace a computer, but because I wanted a fun toy for travel. It's essentially a big ipod for me, but damn do I love it.
I have an iPad which I bought a while ago. I've tried the Xoom, the Playbook, the iPad 2, and the Galaxy Tab and the Playbook is by far my most favourite simply because it supports fucking Flash. The Tab can support it but it runs like shit because it's a single core proc right now, and I know the Xoom will have flash support but the OS is so badly optimized on that right now that it will never compare to the Playbook's speed. The iPad 2 is a horrible "upgrade" to the iPad.
I hardly use my iPad now anyways. It's mounted on a wall in my workshop so I can quickly browse the net if I have to.
i call it imitation because honestly who uses a samsung tablet

You do realize that the iPad isn't the king of tablets and isn't the first of them, yes?

Windows button + tab is pretty cool. But it's still pretty useless.
I have two relatives with Ipads, both live in America.
tablets are actually pretty cool
they're also insanely overpriced

I think that explains allot, Americans are very computer illiterate. Well unless it's someone here on the internet.
Edit: Hey I live in California lol. People here think Macs are objectively better.
I also have a Viewsonic Gtablet.. and yes, the stock rom is horrible. But now, I have it running Gingerbread and it is amazing. I use it everyday as a replacement to my old laptop.
You do realize that the iPad isn't the king of tablets and isn't the first of them, yes?
It's by far the best selling one
I've seen some people with them, but a smart phone is the way to go.
Yeah I actually want a smartphone. I want one more than a 3DS or PSP2 or whatever it's called. I just suck at typing with them :eng99: DAMN YOU ENORMOUS THUMBS!
Office Depot employee here; We got about 7 Blackberry Playbooks, sold out the first day (note they're all $499+) we also have some other tablets ($169, $299) and we constantly sell out of them.
I have an iPad 1, I like it. I thought about getting one of those Honeycomb tablets, but there's only Xoom out. iPad 2? It's the same iPhone story all over again, the speed boost is big enough for me to be jealous, but not big enough to actually buy it.
As for the iPad 1? A lot of apps, nice jailbreak mods, all nice. And with an Android phone and an iPad, I get the best of both worlds :buddy:.
huh I'm wondering why I'm not seeing so many here. I even posted one of those "rock vs ipad" comparisons months ago on my FB and lots of people liked it.
I've seen quite a few people at my school (Like 10+ at least) That actually bring them to school and toy around with them when they aren't doing anything.
yes

Holy shit lol. People at my school sure are commercialized and fake, I'd expect others to have them and not shut up about them.

Exactly. I bought mine for $250. Like I said earlier, it's a nice toy for me and I don't regret it. I'd never pay more than I did for any tablet. My tablet is essentially a netbook for me. Browse the web, read some email, last forever, and watch a movie or two. Tablets should be priced accordingly.
And for $250 it's absolutely brilliant. Anyone wanting something like a tablet get the Gtablet. It's cheap and has excellent hardware. Be prepared to get a custom rom on it though since the stock one is so terrible it makes me want to take a shit on the screen.
^Yeah but people will pay $600 to go on [del]Youtube[/del] Facebook lol.
^Yeah but people will pay $600 to go on Facebook lol.
And that's where I draw the line and say people are blind sheep that will buy anything that's popular for social status. I bought my gtablet because it's functional and fun. The people that spend $600 on a tablet are buying it because it's the "in" thing. Tablets have yet to achieve functional maturity and the price should reflect that.
Hmm there getting pretty popular.
heck i see ipads everywhere
San Francisco Man.
.. Those ads. are everywhere.
I know quite a few people who own iPads actually. Other tablets not so much though.
PC's bought vs Macs bought vs Tablets

Next year it will be required for everyone to have an Ipad at my highschool.
My family has the ipad and my dad just got given the blackberry playbook for work. I like apple a lot but the blackberry playbook is better imo. A lot of people around where I live have the ipad (suburban NY)
I actually just won an iPad 2 in a contest! I will post my impressions here whenever I get it in the mail. I will mostly discuss whether it is useful at all, and then I will compare how I use mine to how my parents use theirs (they bought it for themselves, so I have hardly seen/used it). If the thread is closed or dead when I get it, I will think of making a thread but then I will get lazy and not do so.

Playbook has the slickest interface yes, but has about 4 good apps, from what I have heard and seen.
Same for the Android tablets, great UI, but few apps.
Apple got ONE thing right with the iPad: extensive app support AT LAUNCH. Even though people complained about using iPhone apps for a while, developers moved extremely quickly to create an ecosystem. Android developer are not being as hasty.
Hopefully the HP Touchpad and Windows 8 tablets will be awesome.

...how? Does the school pay for it? Do you go to a private school? What state is this?

Private school in California. School does not pay for it, but it does offer discounts/plans. I completely disagree with the concept, but I did the math and with the money we would be saving on textbooks, it would almost "pay for itself". Still, I will argue with the administration, as I see these tablets to be mostly useless.
I've always wanted one of those laptops with the swivel hinge and a touchscreen.

I hear art students like to use 'em to quickly show off a digital sample of their portfolios. Seems perfect for that sort of thing.
