• So are people actually buying tablets?

i think they are
I hear retired people are getting into them, they want to get away from the office PC and just have some fun zipping through the E-mail, check out a newspaper website then do life stuff.
I own five tablets but only one of them is faster than a 100mhz 486.
I think tablets are a great idea, they're just way too overpriced.
So since I'd rather not make a new thread and this is sort of relevant, should I get an iPad? Hear me out before screaming "OMFG NO IT SUX APPLE LOL OVERPRICED CANT DO NOTHING". I had a laptop for the past 2 years, and it pissed me off. I had the carrying case, but it became an annoyance being so bulky, so I got a lighter one that was much easier to carry around, yet me setting it down on the floor (no I didn't slam or drop it) broke the hinges on the laptop and it's continued to get scratches from general use. I'm honestly extremely careful with it, but the fucking thing is extremely fragile for some reason. The reason I'm thinking of an iPad is so I can easily carry it around through classes and take notes on it that I can transfer to my home desktop, but is it really a good alternative for a laptop? I only really used the laptop for class, so I don't need games or any of that other shit.

Try out the iPad, if the interface does not work out for you, sell it and get something else.

I would totally go for a modern tablet if the "proper ones" (that is, resistant to minor drops, dirt, spills, and stuff that you would expose a tablet to in an ultraportable environment) were not special order from mil-spec contractors (Fuck you Getac) and cost a billion dollars each (fuck you Panasonic).
When I opened this thread, I thought people were talking about the Wacom type tablets, not iPads, but w/e.
I've always wanted one of those laptops with the swivel hinge and a touchscreen. Like this: [img_thumb]http://www.officefurniture2.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/touch-screen-laptops.jpg[/img_thumb]
I've got one of those, although it's a Fuljitsu Lifebook that came with no hdd, so no Windows. It's still wonderful to use, kind of annoying to hear behind you every few minutes "dude that's so cool", "can you draw me (insert thing wanted to be drawn here)", but still a good little lappy.
My family does have an iPad. It's great for killing time, altough there is not much useful stuff it can do. Also loads of my dad's friends have iPads.
I've only met two people who've owned iPads. Both were diehard Apple fanatics who would buy anything with that logo on it. I remember one kid in one of my classes was on his iPad and talking to a friend of his in behind me. He kept going on about how revolutionary the iPad 2 is because it has some smart cover or something like that, and it was going to blow everything else out of the water.
My mother has an iPad. I use it to play angry birds on because my phone's one of the first gen android phones and can't play it. I could see owning one if you were well off and liked to work on cars. It would be nice to have all the manuals on it in pdf format.
People who say that iPads are the future in computers makes me want to rip their heads off.
People who say that iPads are the future in computers makes me want to rip their heads off.
They aren't at all. They're just great big iPod touches. They're cool, but they're nothing special
The only time I saw an iPad in person was when I was waiting to get a haircut, and that's it. However tablets (excluding the ipad) I've seen just a few times, but that was only when people brought them to my dad to ask some technical questions about them.
I don't know much about them but i do know they are pretty popular in Holland
I see people with tablets regularily, mostly iPads as the population of Denmark has a massive hardon for Apple, some Galaxy tabs (which in my opinion sucks ass majorly, simply because it's running 2.2 which, just like iOS, isn't optimized for tablets), and one Xoom, which was pretty cool, as it's the first "real" of the "new" tablets. I hardly see any tablets with Windows, but I guess most people don't work on their tablets, but see movies and browse the web.
tons of hipsters buy them and then you never see them using them because even they realize how pointless they are
2 of my friends own Ipads. One is spoilt nerd, but he bought it himself because he runs a DJ business, and the other makes money in less reputable ways. He's the kinda guy who keeps his money in a drawer because the thinks the bank will steal it. They are great fun really. Did I mention were 16? Fuck my friends and there money making abilities.

My just-finished-university-is-earning-a-shitload brother is considering getting one for reading the papers. Otherwise I only know two guys, one who seems to have a rich father and who seems to be collecting Apple-stuff, and another one who is half-blind so he needs something to enlarge everything on. Oh, and he has a rich father too.
I only know my uncle has it, but I don't know anybody else.
My parents have one But our household also have 2 macbooks, an imac and 3 iphones It's sort of obligatory that we got an ipad
I see people with ipads all the time, I'd like one myself but I already put enough weight on my shoulders with my laptop.
Hezzy has an iPad. I have a smartphone. Posting from my I9000. I have a netbook too since I use it for University p. much every day. Scientific programs don't run on tablets.
All the younger kids at my school have iPads. They were the only year level to get them through the school.
I wouldn't ever pay more than 100€ for a tablet. A netbook+smartphone can do anything a tablet can, but better. When you just want to quickly check something you use the smartphone and if you want to do work or are sitting in a train or something you can use the netbook which is a much better than any Android or iOS tablet will ever be.
We have an iPad here, it's cool. Especially useful to play something when I'm taking 20+ minute shits :v:
I tried out an iPad in a store once, I didn't like using it personally, though I can see the appeal.
Tablets are really popular in big cities. I see a lot of people walk around with iPads and/or that Samsung imitation all of the time when I go down to Columbus. It's a lot easier than carrying a laptop. I guess Apple is making the next step forward, though, and is making a new operating system a step up from Snow Leopard, called Lion, which is supposed to look/feel more like an iPad without being an iPad. I don't see the purpose of that at ALL but w/e apple do your thing
Yeah because microsoft totally didn't make a tablet PC in 2002, right? Apple is barely innovative except for when they started out. P.S to clear up any misconceptions, I have nothing against Apple and some of their products I enjoy and use. However, I get pissy when people start talking about how innovative apple is and how they are so creative, when in reality most companies have created products that are equally as good before.
