I might buy one when i'm in NYC, seems ideal to read comics on.
[img_thumb]http://laptoppimp.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/panasonic-toughbook-cf.jpg[/img_thumb] these are actually pretty damn impressive, EMS agencies use them and I know firsthand they can be run over/ thrown around and keep working
No. They're worthless. I absolutely hate these. We use them at work for our technical information for the jets. Worthless. Slow, unresponsive, and the way it's set up for the technical info it takes ages to bring up steps like: "remove 4 screws" when I could've removed, installed, and removed again before the page came up.
Too expensive!

My father said he likes using them around the shop at our local Ford dealership since they are kinda handy when looking stuff up. Considering that their breakroom still has a Pentium II and III machines, because they refuse to upgrade any of the machines the mechanics have access to, this thing probably is blazing fast in comparison.
I know one guy who owns an iPad. But then again he owns everything Apple and is a total faggot asswad in general.
My sister had an iPad and brought it here, because she doesn't know shit about how to use it She left it at my home for about a day or two, and holy crap, it's sucks so bad. It's too big to be portable and too small to replace a laptop. It's difficult to hold it, and it's nothing more than an over sized iPhone that doesn't make phone calls. The only kind of person who would buy it are people that stay home all the time and that don't know how to use a computer.
Hah, I have an 8 year old Compaq TC1000 that does so much more than the iPad, and only cost me $120.00. When I got it, I had people saying "WHY DIDN'T U WAIT 4 DA IPAD?". Same with my Kindle 2. "Why U No Wait 4 iPad?" It's not my market. I'd prefer to have a more or less useful device. And that means having a full OS. Also, I don't really care for capacitive screens. Now, though, when I have it, people are like "Is that an iPad?". Same with the Kindle. Come the hell on! No goddamnit! It's not a freaking iPad. I have to school them on the fact that Apple did not invent the tablet. It came out in the early 1990s, and is absolutely not new technology. Having a crippled, phone OS on one is though. The only tablet I'd consider that isn't a TabletPC is the Xoom. Honestly, it looks awesome. I freaking hate how Apple legitimizes everything they do. It's like someone elected them to do so. It's annoying as hell. They get people thinking they invent, when all they do is innovate. They didn't create the first MP3 player. They didn't invent the first smartphone, tablet, or laptop. But they legitimized each and every single device in that list. (That, and all the tech blogs are up Apple's ass.)
The main use for a tablet should be to replace a shitty laptop and awesome phone and leave room open for a giant awesome laptop and a small conveniently sized phone. Does that make sense? No tablet can possibly do that at the moment, but I feel like that is what they SHOULD do.
ps should I jailbreak my ipad? like I said, I haven't used it in a while and maybe that will give me a reason to pick it up. I thought about it for a while but tampering with electronics always makes me nervous, is jailbreaking easy/worth it?
All those branded tablets are overpriced and those companies are a late cash in on the Chinese tablet market.
almost every unknown brand tablet is some piece of shit with slow ass hardware and a horrible touch screen
I thought this was an interesting idea (and a practical application):
Replacing an older touch panel, the new app allows guests to control lights in the room, change their heat and air conditioning systems, order room service, make restaurant reservations, request wake up calls, communicate with the concierge, and even print boarding passes. According to the general manager of the hotel, their previous system, “wasn’t sophisticated enough for what we wanted to do” and they ” chose the iPad because it is a great piece of equipment that is here to stay and won’t disappear tomorrow.
http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/02/ipad-haters-should-probably-steer-clear-of-the-plaza-hotel/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+GizmodoAustralia+%28Gizmodo+Australia%29
I've seen one iPad, but otherwise never, other than those little tablet things the UPS dudes carry.
It seems like everyone and their dog has an iPad at my school. Heck, every worker computer department got a free iPad because the superintendent wanted to see if they'd be good for learning.
I still haven't seen a good reason for getting a tablet. Maybe it's because I'm surrounded by computers constantly and I like to get away from them now and then. I have a kindle, but that's different

Guess what, when you pass the age of 25, have a girlfriend and an appartment/house, you don't leave home very often, because when you work all day you're glad to finally be home, and your girl is going to be pissed if you spend all night behind a desktop/laptop. Having a tablet around the house is quite handy. Once you get used to an iPad, or any other tablet, it begins to annoy you how cumbersome laptops are. It's like going from a flatscreen back to a CRT monitor. I too used to make the 'supersized iPhone without a phone' joke, but now that I got one myself at a cheap price, I can definitely see the benefits. The price is the number one turn off at the moment. Once tablets become affordable, everyone's going to have one.
kid 1: hey 2 help me replace my ipad screen kid 2: how do we fix it kid 1: i dont know me: oh its simple really, buy a better tablet kid1: HEY IT FELL OUT OF A CAR AND GOT RAN OVER AND THE SCREEN ONLY CRACKED me: :smug: Other tablets would of just gotten scratched
I've never seen or heard of ANYONE that has a tablet. In my family, it is considered that only jackasses own tablets
I've never seen or heard of ANYONE that has a tablet. In my family, it is considered that only jackasses own tablets
Same here. Still i bought one today. Damn you Apple and your clever advertising!
Just one thing, why buy an iPad? It's expensive and it does less than proper tablets. Latest south park got me a big laugh on this :v:
ps should I jailbreak my ipad? like I said, I haven't used it in a while and maybe that will give me a reason to pick it up.
a jailbroken ipad is like owning a honeycomb tablet almost
Uh, what. Doesn't make it open source etc etc.
Postin from my iPad.
I have never seen an iPad with my very own eyes in my entire life. They're not popular around here I guess. Might be because I kinda live on the very edge of endless fields and civilization. But even if I take a walk in the city there's no iPads to be seen.
No one wants someone to steal it :v:
Uh, what. Doesn't make it open source etc etc.
Not many people benefit from open source. I've been using quite a lot of open source software but I still don't get what's the charm if the closed one does the same and even better sometimes. I guess that's because I'm not a programmer, but I guess neither is he and 90% of the population.
I know a guy who has some Asus tablet I've never even heard of that runs on an Android OS Plus there's a few Steve Jobs worshippers at my school who have iPads

I betatested Mad Skills Motocross on an iPad once, and messed up the ones on the apple store in town. They're kinda neat but i'd never pay 1000$ for one.
I was doing something that would be pretty difficult with a tablet today: Sitting on a park bench eating my lunch and reading an ebook. Reason 1: I would have been mugged in 30 seconds if it was an ipad. Reason 2: Sandwich in one hand, tablet in the other. What do I use to operate the touchscreen? I possibly could have used the sandwich as a stylus, but I think it would have got smeary. Silly example, I know, but it's true. You need two hands to operate a tablet unless you have a table. Whereas my kindle has the page-turn buttons on the edge where your thumb sits :smug:. I'm just not a fan of touch-screens, I like buttons.
