Are you meant to put your name and address to say that you've been trespassing?
This place looks freaky I would never go there.
They filmed Silent Hill there as well didn't they?

No, the movie's script was only based upon it..as far as I know anyway
20 in the winter, 100 in the summer. ugh.
Yeah man.
Centralia... it makes me think of Genitalia. lol.
This place should be called Dumpalia though. Meh. Why'd you go to this place, anyway?
Because it's damn cool. What could be better than walking around an abandoned town where cracks in the ground spew toxic gases from an underground coal fire that's been burning for several decades?
Looks cool. I live in South Jersey near Philly.(No, not Camden.) Might stop by some time.

It's amazing to see how it's transformed in 20 years.
Underground coal fire?
How the hell did that start?
Stupid people.
Thank you for the extreme amount of description.
knock yourself out.
Jesus christ..
it has a whole entire deposit of coal man.
it has a whole entire deposit of coal man.
fuck man, think about how many torches you could make with that
shit i've been playing too much minecraft
fuck man, think about how many torches you could make with that

They should get some explosives and mine that shit. Blow it up, soak it in water and mine it!
I wish there were places like this in california. :saddowns:
Also yeah, the fire is still burning and it's projected to keep burning for about 200 years thanks to the coal mine it's burning in.
Wouldn't it be better to stop the flow of oxygen with some cement or something, so the fire dies out, and the mine is eventually usable again?
i still don't see the appeal of a poisonous-gass filled trashheap full of interweb BS
if you really want the experiance, visit a public bathroom, both are filled sith smoke except the bathrooms have dangerous exciting things like used syringes and prostitute's phone numbers instead of /b/ spray tags.
I've heard of this place a few times before but never actually seen any pics of it. Awesome job. Going back anytime soon?
Wouldn't it be better to stop the flow of oxygen with some cement or something, so the fire dies out, and the mine is eventually usable again?
Didn't they try that when the mine first caught fire? And they had a crazy amount of problems finding and plugging all the sources of oxygen? Something about how the fire would cause new fissures and vents to form in the rock faster than they could be plugged?
Also, does this place show up on google streetview?
Once that fire dies, theres going to be some cool minerals to mine!

I imagine a public works yard where they have a whole rack of those signs just ready to go out
Cool. You should totally sell your house and buy a camper van and live there.
I would cut a hole into the fire and toss babies into it as a sacrifice to the gods of the subterranean inferno.

Yes. Just the two main road though and theere's not really anything to see. It looks cool though because it's all foggy and shit.

I was thinking kittens, but that works too.
No pictures of the underground fire?
No pictures of the underground fire?
I think the poisonous gases kinda' stop that.
No pictures of the underground fire?
Would you want to stick a $1300 camera in a small hole with temperatures of 187f and poisonous gases coming out of it?

I blame STALKER for interesting me in this stuff.
Plus I'm sure this was a much more interesting place before everything was bulldozed. :saddowns:
I have to admit though, I feel sorry for the people that had to leave their homes because of this. But Ashland (how appropriate of a name..), which is right next to what remains of Centralia, is basically the same town. In fact, I think it's just about as old..
