Vaporwave is heavily inspired by that, as well as merging it with retro technology from the 80's and 90's

Honestly, I think the only reason vaporwave isn't taken seriously is the unfortunate association that it has with the sadboys clique of mouth-breathers. The genre would probably gain much more respect if they weren't lumped in with actual vaporwave.
