I prefer C or V shaped necks :v: DBZ necks are awesome and same with schecter and ESP necks.
I hate DBZ necks, but I love ESP necks.
For the OP, a humbucker is a type of pickup, which is commonly used in punk, rock and metal. Typical strats have 3 singlecoils, which are great for rock and many other genres but don't do such a great job of producing typical punk and metal tones. If you get a Fat Strat you'll have a humbucker along with 2 singlecoils so you can play a very wide variety of tones and styles.
punk with single-coils would be absolutely fine, the ramones used single coil guitars
punk with single-coils would be absolutely fine, the ramones used single coil guitars
Even heavy metal is fine with single-coils.
not every band of a genre needs to sound the same
imo pick up one of the schecter starter guitars, they're pretty much top quality

It's just that generally speaking, humbuckers have a lot more bite, and of course they don't hum like singlecoils when heavily overdriven. And they just sound so so different from single coils that I think it's totally worth having a guitar with humbuckers and single coils instead of a guitar that just has one or the other. It's just all about versatility for a first instrument, because you never know exactly what you want.
Don't get a certain 'style' of guitar at first. When you start to really learn to play you may find you like a completely different genre than you expected.

I play more funk than anything but I listen to mostly metal and electronic music
