Hero mode is basically how I think all the HS chars look, and sprite mode is simply the more "video-game" style version that ultimately isn't representative of their appearance.
I mean, pretty much everyone pictures Sollux as a tall scrawny guy, so seeing him get modelled as a short fatty is really weird and off-putting.
