Perhaps it did, and that's why the timeline ceased to exist. Future Dave stated that it took "four goddamn months or something" to get to his fifth gate, but he could have just been hopping back every 24 hours to extend the amount of time he could spend in the Medium. He would age much faster than Future Rose would, which would also explain why she asked "already?" to Future Dave when he stated that he was going back.

Well, it definitely did, but much later, as it's supposed to go off just after the reckoning ends. Since Jack didn't receive the bunny in that timeline(stable loop was terminated with John's death; that's also why it's a doomed timeline), he couldn't mess up the session. Therefore Dave didn't have to hop back every 24 hours - Rose simply believed that they could still gather some useful information.
