I'm not saying I was never paid, I'm just saying that I made a total of $10 off "commissions", while furry porn dumbness make thousands, holy shit.
the only artists that charge thousands will deliever you hardcore amazing art, like strype, tsampikos, vectorconflict or something. those expensive-ass artists aren't as common as they're made out to be a lot of artists rarely charge more than 50-100 dollars for their artwork. even some really popular artists like muzz only charge like 20-30. i'd say the majority of artists charge like 10-20 dollars, tho
I'm not saying I was never paid, I'm just saying that I made a total of $10 off "commissions", while furry porn artists make thousands, holy shit.
Whore yourself and draw furry stuff.
The kicker is its not even a full commishion its a YCH auction AKA the artist already pre-setup the scenes and poses and pretty much just fills in the blanks with whoever won's character. It BLOWS MY MIND that people would ever spend over $100 on one when 90% of artists will charge $100-$200 for a completely custom scene/image of your choosing. The big-time or highly skilled artists will charge about $500-$600 for pretty much whatever the commissioner wants, completely custom ordered to your liking. If I were to ever drop over $1k on artwork it would need to be an actual art auction where you are auctioning for original works on display with their own custom framing and everything, or me getting traditional work originally commishioned to my tastes with a high degree of skill/scale. People who pay the same for quicky digital artwork, let alone digital art that they don't even have any creative control over are fucking stupid. Then again a lot of furries lack any real financial sense and yet have loads of cash to blow. Instead of saving for a car/house/etc or using their disposable cash for other means (like trips or expensive toys or whatever) it pretty much goes straight to porn commissions, even if its a completely awful deal.
But this isn't as bad as that hype many years ago when people would drop thousands and thousands of dollars on a piece of artwork in an auction on something they've never seen yet but was already made. The artist was Andreas Gursky
since i couldn't find a good ych example that wasn't nasty porn here's basically what they are people bid on this then the final product only really changes fur and has minor changes like accessories, and species. the image is essentially identical, though. sometimes artists have YCHs that are only for dragon characters, dog characters, cat characters, which makes them super copy-pasty which is kind of irritating because they're becoming really common now.
I'm not saying I was never paid, I'm just saying that I made a total of $10 off "commissions", while furry porn artists make thousands, holy shit.
I'm 80% sure these guys only make so much money because they already have a reputation in their community, people pay for the artists' name, not the work I'm sure you could find work of equal or greater quality for much less
Whore yourself and draw furry stuff.
Would rather kill myself tbh
You'd think you'd pay less for something that's YCH, I mean, most of the effort is already fucking done. But no, some of these auctions go for several times the artist's normal commission price.

It's kind of gives you bragging rights. "Hey, look at my new commission by [whoever is popular]" "Hey, look at my custom car built by [whatever popular company]" "Hey, look at my wedding photos taken by [popular photographer/team]" The artists/companies have built their reputation and that's how they continue to make money. edit: The same bragging rights apply to anything you buy, which includes cars, smartphones (HEY LOOK AT MUH NEW IPHONE 5S!!!), house, furniture, consoles, games, etc.
why are pageviews and favourites important? I really do not understand any of this
Why are video views and subscribers important on YouTube?
Why are video views and subscribers important on YouTube?
They can earn you money.
Why are video views and subscribers important on YouTube?
Getting your work exposure, in the case of a lot of people, money, I get that there are parallels but when you're showing off drawings that other people did for you, the two aren't really comparable, why is a necessary to have an expensive drawing by flavour of the month artist x?
why is a necessary to have an expensive drawing by flavour of the month artist x?
It's not but people show their stuff off all the time. Basically bragging rights as it apply to anything you buy, which includes cars, smartphones (HEY LOOK AT MUH NEW IPHONE 5S!!!), house, furniture, consoles, games, etc. People like to brag and show off their shit, whether they made it themselves or they bought it from wherever or whoever. People like the attention other people give, such as, "Nice [insert some item here]!" or people will ask you about the stuff you got in general.
The one time I got something from FA was when Tojo the thief gave me a drawing for free, for no apparent reason. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ns1YHww.png[/t] I drew the head of a retarded, drooling reptile and she drew it again. Not gonna lie, it's pretty nice from her.

[editline]10th November 2013[/editline] also sorry for the 7 hour late response, i was out [editline]10th November 2013[/editline] but for real i'd probably be lying if i said that me uploading shit is just for giving exposure. i kind of like showing off a little :V
I'm not saying I was never paid, I'm just saying that I made a total of $10 off "commissions", while furry porn artists make thousands, holy shit.
The only furry artists that make thousands doing this stuff are the really well known and popular ones, and even then they have to slave at it and probably make less than $20k a year doing it. most artists generally have to work other jobs or do stuff on the side on top of doing commishion work to make a living. It's also nothing like "professional artists" that work in industries such as concept arting, professional commonishing, etc as far as prices go. I.E. a simple logo design could cost $500 yet $500 would get a very skilled furry artist to commission you whatever. But, you can't beat the clientele, which is always willing to throw money at you.

It's not just a human thing, every living thing shows shit off. To add onto your comment, watchers are like subscribers on YouTube or followers on Twitter or Facebook. They watch you because they like your submissions, or they are friends, or they like whatever you write in your journals. There is also lots of raffles (which also exists on DA and other art websites) for artists to gain exposure.
Probably one of the most popular commissioners in the entire furry fandom said himself he got so many commissions because he both had a lot of free money (captain in the USAF making six figures, lol) and he was "socially awkward" in his words and wanted a way to meet people.
Who is this?
what has this thread become
Wow, somehow this thread went from a guy shooting a fursuit to a thread about furry artists and commissions.
Wow, somehow this thread went from a guy shooting a fursuit to a thread about furry artists and commissions.
Well it is a lot better than other past threads on FP with furries
Everyone else has left, so you leave behind a mini-furry-chat-thread. Until it gets locked as soon as anyone notices.
I'll be honest. I stopped paying attention to the furry community.
what has this thread become
A discussion on how rampant circlejerking is in isolated groups, although with one main subject. Hardcore MLP fans are just like this, so are the downright creepy Homestuck fans. [editline]11th November 2013[/editline] TL:DR A window into obsession itself.

[editline]11th November 2013[/editline] TL:DR A window into obsession itself.
it's easy to demonize a fandom when you're not a part of it. think of the interest groups you're a part of. do you say the same things about them? probably not.
Yeah, every fandom has it's assholes, morons, drama queens and creeps.
Yeah, every fandom has it's assholes, morons, drama queens and creeps.
it's just that we either choose to ignore the weirdos or dismiss them. furry fandom has weirdos that allegedly suck real dog dicks (this was a real user that used to be a mod), homestuck has people who spit into a bucket, supernatural has rabid shippers who sent death threats to the actors' wives, dr who has obsessed nerds that branded an image of some child's grave as a weeping angel, bronies have bid on a plushie that had a hole for their dicks, etc. (this is all real) this list goes on forever, and applies to virtually every fandom, interest group, or large social group.
Hell there is an artist named VeraMundis that charges like a fraction of that for more detailed and much better looking works than for the porn that's going to be identical to other "YCH" base commissions.
For some reason any of those links (all furaffinity links) only open in incognito mode on chrome, and give a 403 in normal mode. I should thank chrome for that I guess :v:
