The premise doesn't interest me and the trailers look terrible to me. Why should I give it a chance? I'm not really actively looking for bad reviews to support my stance though, I just see no reason to give them my money if I feel like I won't enjoy it.
every last positive review I've seen has just been heckling strawman negative reviews for being butthurt instead of reviewing the fucking movie? I want reviews not petty clique wars the trailers 100% did not sell me on something I wanted to watch, it was clearly going to be death-by-committee writing by people who think slapstick cartoon stereotypes work great in live action. The OP video seems to reflect my fears for what may have happened to it, though some points were a bit sloppy (the "how do you empower women by making one a cartoonishly stereotyped black woman" felt disjointed for instance) and other bits were very easily worded in ways that'd get cherrypicked by anyone wanting to call him racist/misogynist/just mad there's woman leads I'll check it if it's just on TV, otherwise don't feel inclined to put my dollars into a production that pulled a lot of moves that have been absolutely toxic in the ~hit summer comedy~ movie scene, following Pixels in expectation, budget and care for content
Haven't seen the movie and not intend to check it out, but fuck this movie sooo much. Not only it's bad because it's another cash in Sony's remake, but because it decided to make it worse by enforcing political agenda down the throat. This thread is a prime example of what kind of effect it does. It saddens me the most, movies and art in general shouldn't divide people and make them fight each other.
It's an art piece. you can say its an unethical film and say you don't think people should spend money to support it, but it doesn't make sense to "want" the film to be bad. it'd be like secretly hoping Hitler was also a pedophile? or hoping that his paintings suck just because he killed a bunch of jews. its just a weird and vindictive outlook on the world to me, sorry :\
Your super secret ultra subtle 3rd wave feminist agenda is another castle. No one cares that cast is skewed female, and I personally don't even care that every man in the movie is a complete and utter retard. What I do care about is this is absolutely not what Ghostbusters is about or should be about. It's like you never even watched the movie this is based on, because in that movie politicians and agendists are pretty much assholes. So making this a political tale quite literally shits all over the franchise. No fucks given about four women saving the world. Much fucks given that this aborted trainwreck of a script was considered movie worthy by anyone, much less by one of the people whom apparently doesn't remember he was one of the reasons Freaks and Geeks exists. This is a bad fucking movie and it does not deserve the Ghostbusters name.
Why must every thread I make end with people getting banned? on a side note, the RT score is holding steady at 76%.
"it's not enjoyable as a standalone movie or as a sequel/reboot " dude this thread was filled for like 8 pages of people wishing the movie would be shit so I have no idea what you are talking about
You're misinterpreting them. They're wishing it was financially shit to discourage any sequels because Sony Pictures is good at preventing any loss from shoveling out shit movies. For example everything produced by Adam Sandler in the last decade. Every single one of them uses up a huge budget, breaks even and then some in the hundreds of millions. Yet every single one of them hardly get a score near the double digits. Grown Ups 1 and 2 grossed around $150mil each in their lifetime and have a respective 7% and 10% on Rotten Tomatoes. Honestly you'd have an easier time defending Pixels as a good movie compared to this. The difference between Sandler movies and Ghostbusters is that Sony's marketing team figured out a way to deflect criticism by forcing a political agenda in both the story and a cult classic movie franchise to create controversy and a false narrative on reviews.
I've never seen a movie with so much political agenda and drama. I do hope it is a commercial disaster, because it represents a culmination of bad practices and ideologies that have been plaguing all major genres of arts for the last few years. It's a recent example of a movie that uses its name to cheaply gain fame with no regards for its past or roots, it trashes most of the original fanbase while creating and promoting a voracious fanbase that doesn't care about the quality of the movie, a fanbase that genuinely thinks that disliking this badly written movie is a social statement of what is wrong with world.
Also have you seen it? why do you think its bad?
have you seen it? why do you think its good
when the only debate I generally hear against people saying this movie sucks is the equivilant of "LALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU YOU'RE A MISOGYNIST" your movie is probably fucking awful.

There seems to be a lot of people here saying the plot is shit, hoping the plot is shit, etc.

No, im NOT going to go see it, because FUCK this movie. The trailers painted this as a piece of schlock thats not even "so bad its good", the studio were dickheads about it and tried to redirect criticism as misogyny, and everyone defending the movie is either saying "well just go see it" or "you hate women". So no, im not giving this movie a chance, it can go eat a barrel of phantom cocks.

I've never seen Birdemic, but I know that's an awful movie from reviews, clips, interviews, etc. If it looks like a bad movie, it sounds like a bad movie, then it's probably a bad movie.
It's an art piece.
So is Piero Manzoni's most famous work, but even that one is literal shit.
My sister thinks I'm a misogynistic prick because I said the movie was going to be bad. I told her that I read the script and she said that didn't matter since I haven't seen it.
To play devil's advocate, you really shouldn't judge a movie without seeing it
I don't think performance no matter how good would make a shit script like this work, and it's clear from reviews that it's muddy at best anyways.
To play devil's advocate, you really shouldn't judge a movie without seeing it
not really. trailers are there to pull you into the movie. if the trailers are bad, you can predict that the movie will be bad. (because those come from the movie directly) if you dont laugh at trailers for a comedy movie, why would you go see it? they're supposed to pick the best parts, after all.
the witch rules, dude
Let me emphasize my point a bit with the reviews from Rotten Tomatoes, both audience and critic. [t]http://i.imgur.com/w114IEu.png[/t] Here, as you can see, the critics gave "The Witch" a 91%. However, only 55% of the audience liked it. As I stated here:

Except the Witch IS a good film. Easy 8/10
Probably a matter of perspective. I found it to be long winded and boring, and it seems a lot of people agree with me in that regard. I can understand that people can like it though. It had fantastic visuals and was genuinely interesting at the beginning. However, it dragged on for far too long and the ending really wasn't much of a payoff for the amount of build up that the film had.
The film, while interesting, did have its flaws. I'm not necessarily saying that The Witch is bad. It's got a lot of good things going for it despite its flaws. The reason I used The Witch as an example is that, similar to how Ghostbusters (2016) is at the moment, the critics are going to love it while the audience is going to be either mixed to negative. That was the point I was trying to make with it.
You know what's funny? I went to Walmart and found Ghostbusters 1&2 om blu ray and on it was this sticker along with the No Ghost Logo patch: [t]http://i.imgur.com/oVTtJLb.jpg[/t] Sony are expecting this movie to fail, they wouldn't have had the movie ticket offer if they thought the controversy would make it succeed
To play devil's advocate, you really shouldn't judge a movie without seeing it
As if you couldn't tell from reading the entire script and seeing what the visuals look like on the trailers. What a joke

I would also argue The Witch is somewhat niche given most people don't really know much about the lore or what inspired the film overall.
The definition of a popcorn flick. The first movie was actually pretty good, tbh. The second one shits the fucking bed like a geriatric on laxatives in no small part due to the writers strike, and the third is as exciting as watching two walls fucking. Havent seen the third, but hey. Dumb robot action.
You said third twice.
