The best part of FO3 is New Vegas
Honestly, after Obsidian's financial troubles and the fact that some of their best staff left for inXile, Pillars of Eternity and Wasteland 2 are pretty blatantly a lot more low-budget than previous titles (albeit Pillars of Eternity was crowdfunded but it must mean something if they developed Stick of Truth and now Ubisoft San Francisco is making the sequel). I doubt they have the funding, manpower or otherwise to hope to use the Fallout 4 version of the Creation Engine and its assets/gameplay for a full-budget successor to New Vegas.
Hopefully with the success of Pillars of Eternity and Armored Warfare they can get funding to do some bigger stuff in the future. Also if they developed a Fallout game Bethesda Softworks or ZeniMax would be paying some amount of development costs.
And Konami looks at this, fans want metal gear spinoffs pachinko machines are spinoffs, you're going to get big boss the way you want it.
This worked so well for the Warhammer games, right?
Well, apart from RTS games and few others, I don't see many developers even daring to make Warhammer games. Lots of potential for completely separate game stories and campaigns I see, single or co-op or whatever the hell you want. But then again it's an old franchise, and I'm not sure what stops them. And I know, such things exist and some are in development, but it's still only like a handful of them it feels.. And talk about spin-offs in general, I remember watching the movie "Dredd" and first thing in the movie they mention an entire wasteland (to be explored) surrounding the Megacity where the movie takes place.
I've never personally met those people. in my experience, people played both or didn't play either. To say it's purely because of Bethesda being involved is a little odd, especially back around the time of Fo3. They really hit their stride in the mainstream with Skyrim.
I'm a weird minority where I played the shit out of F3 and it's DLCs but I didn't start getting into new vegas until I had watched my friend play it alot and the game of the year edition had been out for quite a while. I knew about new vegas since it got announced but I didn't get much farther then getting to vegas and killing benny in the story (and I know I'm missing out on a whole lot since I stopped there) ; I did do a bunch of exploration just like I'm doing in F4 now though. I feel It'll be hard to get myself to finish new vegas after F4 gameplay now
Obsidian won't make another Fallout game because the core audience for Fallout at this point hated New Vegas and why would Bethesda risk pissing off the majority of it's fanbase
Not even close. The vast majority of people I have spoken too who I'd identify as "casual gamers" said they liked New Vegas far more than 3, and many even pointed to the story as being more engaging. Give people more credit than that.
I don't see Beth wouldn't want to do another NV-esque spin off in terms of monetary reasons (they might have other reasons not to however.) NV, while not as successful as 3 or 4, was still a profitable title and a new spin-off is likely to sell even more with the new following they've garnered. So until spin-offs start to become unprofitable or they become highly criticized for milking, I don't see reasons as to why they wouldn't do it from a business perspective (again, they might have ethical or creative reasons for not wanting to make too many spin-offs.)
I'm still waiting for "Fallout: After Anchorage" Wintry environment where you explore irradiated wastelands in Alaska that involves remnants of the Chinese army and large, arctic animal mutants
That sounds terrible for a base game but as a DLC that'd be interesting
And if they decide to spend longer than 4 years developing their next game, then contracting a spin-off could bridge the gap for them nicely. Then we just have to hope that they choose Obsidian to develop it and we have to hope that Obsidian will accept the offer.
That sounds terrible for a base game but as a DLC that'd be interesting
I think an Fallout spinoff taking place in the annexed wastes of Canada could work.
Obsidian won't make another Fallout game because the core audience for Fallout at this point hated New Vegas and why would Bethesda risk pissing off the majority of it's fanbase
This is like something you'd hear in Unpopular Opinions.
