I think drugs should be legal, but highly regulated. Cigarettes are, so why not other dangerous things you can do to your body? I mean, drugs like heroin are dangerous and addictive, but so are cigarettes. You have to either have it all or have none of it. It's a two way street: You can't justify legalizing and capitalizing on cigarettes and alcoholic beverages, and then outlaw everything else because it's dangerous.
It's illegal to attempt suicide, but not to smoke cigarettes, in the US. That seems fairly hypocritical too. If you've read the back of the damned box you full well know you're killing yourself just a bit with each cigarette, so every smoker in the US should be arrested for attempted suicide.
But it's not like it matters. I won't get hooked on crack cocaine any time soon so this whole discussion is basically pointless to me.
EDIT: Although I see one flaw in my argument on attempted suicide:
Driving a car is pretty damned dangerous too, so that's like attempted suicide too. I'm not sure if this is a flaw, though, or just another point in my favor.
Everyone in this thread supporting making all drugs legal is a fucking moron. If people will heavily use and sell them, often in public places in broad daylight (they do in D.C. anyway), what makes you think they won't drastically increase once it's legal?

Whilst I'm not really into Governments having too much power, think of the implications.
Think of those who don't have the money to feed their drug addiction, therefore they will steal and commit crimes. This can impact ordinary folk such as you or me. It can put pressure on Health services such as the NHS, just like smoking does.
You need to think about things carefully before making a general statement like that.

The Government's duty is to serve (to an extent) and protect the people they govern. Letting everyone do crack and heroine five times every day to support their heavy addiction is not making sure that person is safe and the people around them is safe, and when that happens babies like YOU are born, and people like YOU make stupid comments about how "durgz r pretty gewd maaan" I dont give a shit when people smoke weed, its not deadly.
