Alot of times the real estate is cheap because either A. the home is in a shitty neighborhood or B. there isnt any jobs/work in the area and some ditched the house.....at least that is how it is in my area (Northern California)
Pictures in OP look like they are from ghetto shithole.
haha, in vancouver, a normal 2 bedroom house is 1+ million.
well of course if you look in fucking sydney the prices are going to be high. i was watching the news and it said the average home in manhatten costs 2mil. it's all about location. not where the hipsters hang out.
Also explain this americans, how can a house be $15,000? http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/3254-S-181st-St_Seatac_WA_98188_M10570-64587?source=web we have parking spaces, literally parking spaces that cost that much in sydney city.
I never understood why a moving house is worth less than a stationary one. One of lifes great mysteries.
Also do americans hate apartments or something? Every property outside of new york i see is a free standing house. I wish it was like that here.
here in north america we actually use our rural areas, lots of space for houses
$200k for a one story? the two story my family bought was only $150k, then again that was pre-recession
as a new yorker its pretty expensive in Brooklyn and Manhattan . the cheapest one in in the city is probably 750,000 minimum and in Brooklyn there are shit holes that cost 200,000 that has no parking / yard . Bought our house for about 250,000 , now its valued about 450-525 , the market went down here we had a offer for 550 and were stupid enough to back out on it . it really is about location . just a 15 min walk from my house there are houses that are base minimum 1million dollars to start and condos the same way for about 250 grand you can get a 2 bed room apartment near the ocean but isn't the best . there's a brand new building that was just finished up my block and starting price is 670 grand a pop but its basically in a shit hole the train tracks are literary right next to it and the streets constantly smell from the rotten fruits and veggies the stores throw out . (brighton beach area fyi)
They're extremely cheap in places like the Midwest, where you can get a nice 5-acre farm for practically nothing. In places like San Fran or NYC, however, the prices are about in line with everywhere else. It's a matter of supply and demand - there's relatively few people living in such a large area, so naturally we have lower prices on practically everything.
I would honestly just rather live in an apartment than pay for a whole house with extra space I don't need. But yeah it's pretty cheap if you can find the right locations.
here in north america we actually use our rural areas, lots of space for houses
True. In sydney everything is centred around the city, meaning any house within 30 minutes drive of it costs a ton because nearly all the jobs are there. Its completely stupid, because sydney is becoming overpopulated and developers would rather continue shoving higher and higher density housing into the city so everyone is forced to lived in cramped apartments which cost huge sums of money. The only area of sydney which has some sanity with house prices is the hills area, which has american style suburbs and houses, but houses are still a lot more expensive than the US, and is at least 45 mins drive from the city.
Because we do it the American way: Get minorities to do it for almost non-existent wages.
las vegas is ridic cheap right now 4 bedroom 35k
Do you live there? Always considered moving out there, whats it like?
Do you live there? Always considered moving out there, whats it like?
Las Vegas is great if you have the money. Yeah you can get some property cheap but all the actual stuff to do around there is pretty expensive.

I figure all the normal shit gets outshadowed by the strip and Pawn Stars

Government subsidised housing comprised of absurdly small high rise apartments cost anything from $100,000 to a million dollars. Condominiums cost far more and some people will pay tens of millions of dollars to live in landed property.
messed up on the quoting*
Last time I went to Brighton Beach to hang out with a friend it was pretty desolate
Here's another (not trying to jack your thread) but whats Brighton area like?
honestly Brighton beach went to total crap , its not like 15 years ago where it was thriving its slowly going downhill . the streets always smell bad ALWAYS . rats come out at night and bums and drunks stroll at night . It can be a lot better in my opinion . At the first 90+ degree weather day here there was a shooting on the boardwalk with a couple of people shot just because of some verbal argument
Bensonhurst has literally been the same for my entire life Real estate isn't very cheap here though [editline]30th July 2011[/editline] armo I'm guessing you live near the B train?
My shitty townhouse in Melbourne was worth like $600,000 5 years ago, now it's 1.2 million. lol

Aren't they're a dickload of Russians that live there?
It really varies where you're looking. I live in Montgomery County, Maryland, and it can get pretty expensive. 3 bed 2 bath: $699,000 but the website I got that from might be bullshit, it says this is a 4 bedroom:
Maryland and Virginia are both expensive. Ridiculous amount of contractors and people who commute to D.C. are probably why.
Figured it'd at least be kind of interesting to live in.
at the Q train brighton beach stop
Eh, same thing My friend lives near there too, in one of the apartments And yeah it's a Russian neighborhood
Comparing sydney prices to texas doesnt make a lot of sense. Try west LA
Try Manhattan [editline]30th July 2011[/editline] Man who DOESN'T want to pay a few million for 2br 1ba I know I do!
Comparing sydney prices to texas doesnt make a lot of sense. Still, that would most likely be 700-800K in sydney, unless it was in a crap location, then it would be slightly more expensive than the value advertised.
My shitty townhouse in Melbourne was worth like $600,000 5 years ago, now it's 1.2 million. lol
Oh, Australia.
wtf ... come to LA and youll see high ass prices-____-
