I see some differences. 1981-1 seems to be much more docile, only causing disruptions and making a single threat. 701-1 always kills several people and due to the nature of it being a play: appears to physically exist in the "real" world.

It doesn't seem to be a connection, the tape scp seems more familiar to the other tape which is about the recorded basketball game and it's people who remember reliving it every time it's played or something.
