Making a 40k game involves a college course in 40k lore and countless hours reading books and having debates with one another over what is canon and what isn't.
That being said fuck this game anyway.
The Emperor is rolling over in his throne.
have we declared everything GW does non-canon yet?
I don't see why you guys haven't pulled a C0DA yet and just spun the lore off into your own thing...
Warhammer has been around since the 80's. It's a massive, wide-spread fandom with millions of fans and a presence in every LGS and we've only had two fucking games I can honestly say are good, Space Marine and DoW1. Why the fuck. Warhammer 40K has battles in the lore other games can only dream of, why the fuck do we keep getting these shitty games that look like they were made in Flash or Unity? Jesus.
Getting Relic or something like that to make a Homeworld-Style Battlefleet Gothic (W40K Space Battles) game would be amazing, and i expect would sell very well.
Why won't anyone make DoW3 or something like it. Did strategy games fall out of fashion that hard?
Wasn't there a DoW3 in the works and it was even smaller scale than DoW2?
This is gonna be hilarious in comparison to Sterumon Studio's Space Hulk game.
Wasn't there a DoW3 in the works and it was even smaller scale than DoW2?
Last I heard about something actually called "DoW3" it was something about customisation and "armies". And really, how "smaller" can it get. Anything smaller than DoWII and you get dangerously close to Space Marine.
DoW2 sucked balls. How could they suddenly decide that WH40k can be brought down to the level of squads. CoH1 scale was bigger than that, and that's telling something.
And it's sad. Because you'd think with new tech and such, they could make it even more about really large numbers. Large maps, really large groups of units. Titans even! Instead, all we have are mods for DoW1 that still sits proudly on my computer.
Well call me a scrublord but I like DoW 2 exactly BECAUSE it's on a scale that is manageable to my bad_at_RTS_games brain.
I'd kind of like to see another WH40k FPS, since Fire Warrior was such a lame letdown.
I enjoyed Dawn of War 2 knowing it'd be nothing like the first and found it good, if dragging on a bit. I also like Fire Aarrior though, so. I'd like Dawn of War 3 to be on a scale bigger than 1 but have good customization like 2. I mean yeah, you coullld kit out Squads in DoW 1 but I like everything to have personality. Maybe a squad I have has survived 5 battles in a row, promote them to Sternguard, maybe some Artificer armor for the Sergeant, etc.
Now, why can't they just do another first person 40K game(admit it, space marine was good, but nothing special) or RTS game that doesn't suck? Hell, just remake Dawn of War(the first one) but with updated graphics.
They should have hired Gas powered games to create a new dawn of war, they do large scale strategy really well, plus their new one features planets you can throw into others.
This is more heretical than xeno love
They should have hired Gas powered games to create a new dawn of war, they do large scale strategy really well, plus their new one features planets you can throw into others.
just make a reskin of Supreme Commander with a slightly smaller scale and name it EPIC 40,000: Apocalypse
or just remake DOW1 with bigger battles, more units, better graphics, Tyranids and superheavy megadeath war god units like Titans
why the hell is it so difficult to understand what the fans want
The guys that made Ride to Hell: Retribution get the Warhammer License. This is heretical on a whole new level, even the chaos gods would despise this amount of heresy.
Everything Eutechnyx made is shit and they've been in business since fucking 1987. I want them gone, them and all of their shit ass "games". They don't even deserve to be called developers with that amount of incompetence and now they proceed to shit on the Warhammer license. No one that has a tiny amount of self respect or identifies with being a gamer would play any of this bullshit.
It's not just bad, it's goddamn offensive to the gaming community. They are just in it for the money, they shit out games every year since they were founded.
This company is so awful they post fake User Reviews on Metacritic to boost their score, have an excerpt, the user "MajorNelson" gave "Ride to Hell: Retribution" 9/10:
Ride To Hell: Retribution sends you back into the time of the swinging sixties drugs, rock and roll, and guns are the main order of the day, with a heavy rock soundtrack to really get the adrenaline pumping.
The story of one man's search for the truth about his father is full of intricate plot twists, and told in a gripping narrative supported by an array of characters with emotional depth. From the trailer yard to the distillery, this game will have you on the edge of your seat.
The User "MajorNelson" has 2 Reviews, 1 for RtH:R and the other for some no name game no one gives a shit about because it's average score is 4.0.
Fucking Eutechnyx.

Lots of companies are suprisingly incredibly incompetent when it comes to marketing or the community, it's astonishing. The Internet makes it so easy to see what the market wants and they keep making ~edgy shooters~ and mainstream crap. I can't believe that we didn't have a decent RTS Game with good old base building for YEARS now. They all have stupid unit limits and small scale battles to be ~tacticool~.
DoW2 sucked balls. How could they suddenly decide that WH40k can be brought down to the level of squads. CoH1 scale was bigger than that, and that's telling something.

I don't get the "DoW2 is too small" sentiment. DoW2's scale and combat mechanics make for a pretty good approximation to a video game version of the tabletop. That's what I like about it.

Thing is, it's still not close enough to the tabletop for it to be appealing in that regard, and it lacked a lot of the strategy from the previous RTS games while focusing more on upgrading your individual Blood Ravens with "borrowed" and "found" equipment.
Just my opinion though, they both play differently and have their own merits.

Again, I already corrected myself in the following posts: it's not that it's "too small" per se, it's that it's a pretty big leap from DoW1. Diffirent kinds of RTS games, and changes felt kind of "uncalled for", if you will.
And about tabletop - well both games are very-very far from tabletop experience, at that point it's just better to concentrate on WH4k lore. Which is about huge battles with thousands of individual participants (apart from spacemarines, yes, they're comparatively few).

I guess you can argue it doesn't really make sense to call them both Dawn of War, but I do think both games are enjoyable. They're just different.
The crippling balance issues DoW2 suffered between factions and the various technical headaches endured through Games for Windows Live were far more annoying than the smaller scale, which still honestly was a bit disappointing.
I don't have experience with tabletop but when I picture 40k I don't think two squads of four marines fighting 2 squads of slugga boyz over a space-apartment. Probably just comes down to an opinion thing though.
if one wants tabletop gameplay then why not just play tabletop?
video games can offer much larger scale battles so why not take advantage of that and slap a few thousand units on screen?
some people can't afford to invest the time and money into tabletop battles.

Because that's not always the game everyone wants?
Well now I see why no one is hurrying up with DoW3 announcement: damned if do, damned if you don't. If you go for DoW experience, then those who liked DoWII get pissed. Do the other way around, and DoW fans go nuts. And whatever you do, tabletop fans go apeshit.
That's why you don't change gameplay in the middle of a series...
DoW2 was fun especially with mods. It is still played actively online.
DoW2 was defenitely not a bad game, saying that would be just wrong but it certainly wasn't Warhammer. It was more like a Company of Heroes with a Warhammer 40K License.
lmao what am I, bill-fucking-gates?
oh yeah, GW
Because that's not always the game everyone wants?
yes, not always. but then again, who wants this?
and i'm sure people would give a warm welcome to something that boasts "THERE IS ONLY WAR" instead of "there are only squads/there are only plants and zombies"
some people can't afford to invest the time and money into tabletop battles.
well why not go all the way and just make an exact virtual copy of the tabletop then, turn-based and all. actually i think something like that is being made
