He's whhhh- wearing jeans. Wearing jeans.
I was more pissed off about her giving that 17 year old kid shit for making an "Amy Schumer is a whore" joke when that is her entire shtick.
Insulting a woman isn't misogyny. Rude, yes, but not misogynistic. I don't even see what the big deal is about calling her fat considering that's her entire shtick. If you want to build your career around being unapologetically fat and unattractive, go ahead, but you don't get to cry "misogyny" when I say something mean about it. The fact that people hold her up as this shining beacon of social satire, fawning over every bland (or stolen) joke that is even tangentially related to sex/gender, only makes her more annoying.
Its also Louie's entire shtick. I absolutely agree "insulting a woman isn't misogyny", but its just a marked difference in the treatment of celebrities who get taken down a notch. The fact that shes fat (is she fat? surely thats exaggerating) is nothing to do with the criticism so it should be irrelevant. But, when its a woman, its never irrelevant. Whatever thing(copying jokes) there is to be outraged about with a female public figure, suddenly all this other shit gets thrown on top, "fat" "whore" "slut". Im not saying you are a misogynist, part of the problem is the general tone of this sort of thing always is, its difficult to tell who is and isn't just using it as an excuse to spew venomous nonsense. So its unfortunate, but necessary, that one has to take a little extra care to be rational and objective with these issues to enable a more even handed discussion that is not also about subconscious/conscious gender bias. [editline]28th January 2016[/editline]
how is "recommends louie CK" misogynistic. out of the several other things you could have used that would have actually pushed your point forwards, that is the one that makes the least amount of sense
its not, but he is fat, Calls her fat, then recommends louie CK.... the point is that its a completely different treatment of the individual, maybe based on gender. I agree all the rest was vile, but this was a particular contradiction i think is interesting.
I was more pissed off about her giving that 17 year old kid shit for making an "Amy Schumer is a whore" joke when that is her entire shtick.
Well if black people can make black jokes and Jewish people can make Jewish jokes...
People tend to insult people while talking negatively about them. If they were complaiming about CK I assure you, they probably would have called him a fat fuck too.
And most of the dudes you see make dick jokes. Does that mean all of them do? Of course not. To answer your question, Chelsea Peretti is great.
She was amazing in Big Fat Quiz of Everything this year. Held her ground like a true champ.
The only comedian that did good fat jokes was john pinette, everyone else is a hack fraud
Well if black people can make black jokes and Jewish people can make Jewish jokes...
Being black or Jewish is something you're born as though

It's because he pulls tons of inspiration from George Carlin, who may as well have invented social commentary and satire through comedy. And Louis does it well. Amy doesn't. It's because most of her material is, as Louis would probably describe, first-level comedy. He did a pretty good bit where he describes how he gets material, and basically it's broken down into different levels. Amy's comedy is on a pure superficial, external level. I've yet to see her actually dive deeper. That's what made George Carlin so good. He started taking pieces of himself and implementing them into his routine. And when he ran out of material for that, he went even deeper. Run out of things to make fun of about yourself? Approach things from a psychological perspective. Tell jokes not about your appearance, but how you actually feel. Louis does the same thing. Amy doesn't.
I remember checking her show out on Comedy Central, it was probably some of the lowest quality entertainment I'd seen in a while. Stuff like "Inside Amy Schumer" makes me wonder how it even gets on air. Also why are we talking about gender even? She's getting all this hate because she broke the golden rule of any stand-up comedian. You don't steal other peoples bits.
Wow, she can't even deliver the lines aswell as the people she ripped off.
Marc Maron talked about this on the latest episode of his podcast, he actually made a lot of good points in Amy's defense and his material was "stolen" as well. It's also pretty weird how 90% of the people who have been banging on about this for months seem to be sweaty neckbeards who just don't like women (one of his arguments)
Well, tell Mr. Maron that he's lost some respect, because that is the most shameless, liberal anecdotal strawman defense I've ever had the displeasure of immediately seeing.
pretty much anyone can get a show on comedy central if they pester the network execs enough or know a few guys just look at a list of all the cancelled shows they have under their belt
She got her show because she was dating someone who was doing ok on Comedy Central. that's literally the entire reason.
pretty much anyone can get a show on comedy central if they pester the network execs enough or know a few guys just look at a list of all the canceled shows they have under their belt
It's a relatively new channel in Denmark, i don't have it myself either. So i thought the selection was poor because of the European restrictions on shows. But yeah, a lot of the stuff they send is pretty mediocre to say the least. Such a shame we didn't get Adult Swim instead.
She got her show because she was dating someone who was doing ok on Comedy Central. that's literally the entire reason.
I like how people say not to cite examples, when you're insulting the protected types, but this just seems absolutely predictable, when you think about it. This is why I read charts, not treatises.
i dont like amy, mainly because shes not very funny, but i really don't think she 'stole' anything on purpose. you see something years ago, you think of it years later without realising where it came from, and you think it's your own idea. it happens all the time. nobody would do this shit that blatantly on purpose. you'd have to be insane to think people wouldn't notice.
I badly wish that was the case but I so highly doubt it for some reason
but like, why DO you doubt it? she's not stupid, she knows stealing jokes will get her caught and hate flung at her. it's the only logical (and fairly common) explanation.
yeah she just randomly 'thought up' that madtv bit and it just totally randomly happened to be almost exactly the fucking same totally random
but this 'skit' has literally happened to me and i'm sure a lot of people. where you forget what the person who helped you looks like so you just pretend nobody helped you or theyre not here instead of picking out the wrong person. except in america race is a much bigger issue so its bound to happen with a racial twist. and im not saying she 'randomly' thought it up. im saying she saw the original ones and then forgot that she saw them when the general idea resurfaced in her head. having unoriginal thoughts isnt a new thing.
generic uninspired comedy she's unoriginal but i dont think shes an intentional hack plagiarist just a regular hack
but this 'skit' has literally happened to me and i'm sure a lot of people. where you forget what the person who helped you looks like so you just pretend nobody helped you or theyre not here instead of picking out the wrong person. except in america race is a much bigger issue so its bound to happen with a racial twist. and im not saying she 'randomly' thought it up. im saying she saw the original ones and then forgot that she saw them when the general idea resurfaced in her head. having unoriginal thoughts isnt a new thing.
Man, this is almost Mencia level copying. There is zero innocence to any of this blatant plagiarism. It is simply disgusting.
i'd give her the benefit of the doubt if there also weren't all the other parallels demonstrated
Man, this is almost Mencia level copying. There is zero innocence to any of this blatant plagiarism. It is simply disgusting.
but this is what, 5,6 sketches out of entire standup routines, multiple shows, etc etc. with that much material, some of its bound to be from somewhere, even though you totally thought you came up with it yourself.
but this is what, 5,6 sketches out of entire standup routines, multiple shows, etc etc. with that much material, some of its bound to be from somewhere, even though you totally thought you came up with it yourself.
This is exactly what I just mentioned. You're denying evidence right then, and there, when it is total fact. All of it, yet you're in total denial, because you refuse to give up. Why so fervent in your defense of a lowly comedian? Have you no humility?
but like, why DO you doubt it? she's not stupid, she knows stealing jokes will get her caught and hate flung at her. it's the only logical (and fairly common) explanation.
Some of these are too close to past acts to be coincidences.
generic uninspired comedy she's unoriginal but i dont think shes an intentional hack plagiarist just a regular hack
Too much to be coincidence imo. You can excuse a skit or joke or two, but to have perfectly captured the exact same timing, delivery and in some cases phrasing of jokes that were told by people you opened for, that is way more than coincidence. She's just falling back on the classic excuse that all biters use, which is "ohh, it's pretty common" or "ohh, I probably heard it and forgot about it". There's no way to prove one way or the other what was going on inside her head as she wrote these skits/jokes, but I think the evidence is pretty clear. You can vaguely recall the concept of a joke, but you don't accidentally write a one-for-one skit, mimicking the timing and all.
