They discussed this in one of their vlogs. It was done for gameplay reasons because plate armour would be invulnerable to nearly any attack.
On one hand I get it, but on the other hand, this could have been a great opportunity. Some sort of creative grappling system that includes half-swording and using a knife to stab unprotected areas, not to mention weapons that were made to fight plate armor, would have really made combat a unique experience.
if you can't half-sword at all, i'll be pretty disappointed

I think actual armoured combat would be cool ingame, but it would massively complicate the fighting system. I do believe I saw some videos of half-swording, although that might've been from the other medieval fighting game Mordhau.
Could anyone explain me briefly how this game is actually structured? I've seen quite a bit of it but I'm still not sure what to make of it.
What exactly do you mean by that? :v:
It's kinda like Oblivion but without magic and shit, I guess?
Then why not add half-swording, or things like picks and maces?
There will be maces and polearms and such, not sure about picks
i find the idea of "its for realism" as an excuse for clunky combat and "its for gameplay" as an excuse for the realism being a bit off to be a bit of a laugh
Fighting enemies with a combat system like this can be fun. Running from every armoured enemy isn't fun.

You gotta balance the Fun vs Realistic somehow.
Imagine ArmA 3 requiring you to eat at some point during a mission because realism.
this is more like complaining that you cant kill a tank with the default rifle, so you let it just go through since you dont have any AT
A better analogy would be using body armour. In most games simulating body armour, it either adds HP or some resistance to damage. Whereas in real life a bullet hitting body armour, and being stopped by it, doesn't kill you.
Plate armour in game adds a lot of resistance, but it's still possible to kill enemies wearing it with conventional weapons.
There are little daggers (forgot what they're called, miseries or something) that you can use to stab between sections of plate armor, you see it when the player sneaks up behind someone and stabs them in the throat
The dude doing the voice over I am pretty sure is a voice actor in ARMA 3 now that you mention it.
Yeah, voiced Adams at the beginning of the campaign in A3, and he was one of the leads in A2.
I guess there are only so many english voice actors in the Czech Republic.

Funny you guys say that, if I recall correctly ARMA 3 does have a body armor system but most servers don't use it for whatever reason (I think it's something about consistency when shooting targets).

Fairly sure all body armour in ARMA 3 does is reduce the damage by certain percentage, not actually stopping it.
