drive in reverse, you'll have more grip. You'll look stupid though but it'll work. Can anyone explain why it works though?
FWD cars have an easier time up wet hills because it's easier for them to gain traction. This is because a good deal of the weight is over the wheels that are pulling you up hill. In a RWD car it's basically pushing all of that weight up a slippery surface and it's a lot harder for the drive wheels to gain traction when there is little weight above them. I'm honestly not sure if driving a RWD up hill would make much difference because of the weight... you'd just be pulling that engine up hill instead of pushing.

It got stuck driving forward, but i could drive it in reverse and have no loss of traction.

To help the situation load as much weight over the rear wheels as you can.
I finally found a picture of an Mk1 Golf with fender mirrors I want to do that myself on my Golf but with chrome mirrors that'll look pretty much the same as that. The standard mirrors just feel way too close to me when I sit in it and I think it'll make it look more classic so, opinions?
Fender mirrors <3
Fender mirrors <3
ai knowe and the golf pulls off the look very well :>

I love how thermalarc is butthurt and rating all my posts dumb.
I love ur dad
I love how thermalarc is butthurt and rating all my posts dumb.
I don't see any reason for someone to have rated your above posts dumb. Driving RWD in reverse is better in snow, almost as good as a RWD truck with a bed full of wet snow going forward.

Well, the foglight switch is installed, but the foglights aren't (nowhere to really mount them with the usdm bumper in the way / impossible to find a ground with these) so i'm going to use it for that, if I can find out how.
I love how thermalarc is butthurt and rating all my posts dumb.
I love how you are taking it here and on my profile wall instead of just reading the principle behind climbing the hill backward with RWD.
I still think you're an adbot.

whats a good way of removing scratches from a windshield? almost done fixing up my golf but the previous owners ran the windshield wipers dry and there's a shallow scratch in my windshield arcing from one side to the other, it's a bit annoying to look at while you're driving also my rear view mirror fell off while i was on the way to the store today, those adhesive mounts are worthless
Just like you buff paint. Same Concept. Orbital buffer and some good ol buffing wax.
any tips on clearing up a scratched headlight? previous owners were also nice enough to use sandpaper in an attempt to get rid of scratches on the headlight (was in a crash), but now it's well scratched all over which makes it noticeably duller. thanks for the advice, helps more than you can imagine.
You can try using a headlight restoration kit, they sell at Wal-mart for ~20 bucks
What are you opinions on not using a jack stand when jacking a car up, not that I don't, but I remember talking to a kid in my mechanics and he says he never uses jack stands when working on vehicles and his father doesn't either. Some extra information on the kid is that he swears a lot and steals tools that "he thinks would use more at home" so you don't get the wrong thought of him just being nieve.
I only use jacks if the vehicle is gonna be there for more than 30 mins.
Changing a tire- Service jack Working under car/ leaving tires off for extended period of time- Jack stands
I use jack stands all the time. My jack has wheels and my car is lower than my chest and head are thick, so I'm not going to risk something like my jack rolling out.
my jack rolling out.
How would that be physically possible? jack stands are there in case the hydraulics or mechanism in the normal jack fails
How would that be physically possible? jack stands are there in case the hydraulics or mechanism in the normal jack fails
That's what I meant when I said rolling out. The way my jack is positioned, if it fails, it won't only fall down, but the way the car pushes it will also push it out. I don't use just jack stands, I still have the jack there.
