• How does one achieve a productive mood and maintain it?

Just do it, really. Your mind will only resist up to the point when you start working. The sooner you get started, the sooner you can push away distractions and actually work on a task.
If you can't stop playing video games or watching t.v. have someone you know hide them from you. You'll pretty much be forced to do things.
Unplug all the electronics
this
Your Avatar is so fitting. I cut down my caffeine intake a while ago, I stopped drinking carbonated drinks and started drinking those diluted fruit juices, which probably isn't that much better. I have the same problem where if I have enough sleep I feel really tired and if I only sleep 4 to 6 hours a night I feel great, but then I end up falling asleep in school and I wouldn't be able to run or climb anything.
Unplug all the electronics
Bad idea. If you procrastinate enough to create a thread about this, chances are you'll just plug them back in again out of temptation.
Turn off the computer and unplug it. Now that you have no more distractions, get to work.
I like this thread, What's with the Adderall tough? Can't seem to find much about it.

It's a drug prescribed to people with ADD/ADHD that increases focus.
Adderall (Dextroamphetamine and Amphetamine), It's pretty much Doctor Prescribed Meth. :v: Well, except for Actual Doctor Prescribed Meth.
Methamphetamine is FDA approved for the treatment of ADHD and exogenous obesity, marketed in the USA under the trademark name Desoxyn.
I spend all day listening to Big Booty Bitches on loop, and then at about 11 PM or midnight, I suddenly get giant bursts of creativity and productivity, and get everything I put off all week done on Friday night.
Put on some mellow music, Pink Floyd, what-not, and just start. Eventually you will just get into it.
Smoke weed everyday.
I do that thing Roald Dahl said in one of his biographies - when you're on a roll leave a little bit for tomorrow so you know what you're doing until you get back into your groove.
I've been struggling with this recently myself. It's gotten to a pretty bad point, bad enough that I've decided it's time to get some counseling. If I figure anything out, I'll let you know.
Just do it, you slob.
I drink a shit ton of energy drinks before I do anything homework related, it's the only way that seems to work for me. Otherwise I just put it off and make up excuses to not do it.
I have this problem too, but the way I'm solving it is different than what most of you are doing. I bought myself a harmonica and will enroll in fencing (when I can find a place to do it). I think by giving myself hard long term goals which force me off the computer will help me (A harmonica isn't really a long term goal but it will give my mind something else to do) but I will try this magic known as willpower and music (drugs too)
Harmonica is a lot of fun to play, and you can pick up a cheapo diatonic harmonica dirt cheap from a lot of places. Even if you can't be bothered to learn it properly, it's fun just to pick one up and blast out a few ugly chords! Definitely cheers you up and helps you keep being productive. Harmonicas can be loud though, so not really suitable for an office environment (or a library for that matter) If you're just at home in your room though, go ahead!
I like to think that just having a goal is one of the biggest productivity booster that you can have, also don't leave the tasks that you want to achieve build up. And by this it can be anything, take schoolwork for example: I have by AS exams coming up soon and thus I need to revise a shit ton of stuff and this can be daunting to people because of the vast quantities of stuff they need to do for the exams and thus they leave it. Now I like to think that the exams are not for instance a giant pile of work, but a continuation of so to speak chunks. This way the workload is suddenly much smaller abet in smaller piles at least. As for the goal thing, just find something that you want to do which will benefit you. Now at this point this take is likely looking like a mountain to climb so you can split it into smaller chunks and take each one at a time. This can be anything be it getting good grades in school, finishing that book you have been reading or even something long term like getting really good at a hobby.
i can easily be one of the smartest guys in school but my laziness always bring me down
Have friends to keep you in check. Collaborate. That is where the best ideas and best motivation comes from... your friends, your parents, your teachers, your significant other, and/or sports team. For yourself. Keep a list. A grocery list, a computer part list, and probably the most important of all is a list of things you want to do. Short term and long term. Keep healthy. Work out. Not super buff and chalked full of steroids. Toe raises, run, dead lift, or anything that gets you moving. Don't miss out on the light of day. Throw out the cell phone, the computer, and any other technology that assumes," You're connected to everyone". It is overload for you. An excuse to hide from your work. This goes for mentally too. You need to read a lot. You'll feel like your imagination will wander off into somewhere else positive. It will also allow you to be more well versed in thought processes and actions. I'm a firm believer in reading anything. The local newspaper, a book, the forum, and even a magazine can give you the mental stimulation you need. Just don't get too stimulated. You have to maintain yourself. Self discipline is the only way to solve your problems responsibly. Drugs or a bottle won't help you get ideas. Your ideas have to come from things that are around you. Collaboration and schedules will keep you in check. Once you create this happy bubble for yourself it is so easy to fall apart. Trust me, I've broken the rules I've set out for myself. You've got to pick yourself up. Ultimately you're bored because you want to be bored so you can have an excuse to procrastinate and that gets you no where. "If you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth." Good luck to everyone.
go for a run not a jog, fucking run I run at least four miles every day and after I do I just steamroll shit left and right
So that's why my battery doesn't last a day! :downsrim:
What I hate is, either I'll get super productive at night when I need to go to bed. Or I have an awesome mood that is promptly destroyed when I get displeased with what I am doing: (Drawing, Writing, Etcetera.)
Just try cleaning up around your room or walk around outside or whatever. You'll feel better about yourself.
I have the same problem, but there are a lot of causes. I'm never focused and in a productive mood when I need to be. During school I'm usually tired, pissed off and cynical about everything. In the morning the most I'll get is some oatmeal or some random stuff my mom threw into the microwave, and crap it out minutes later before rushing out the door and barely catching the bus, then being hungry and unable to focus again by 4th period. I'm nearly constantly dehydrated and my lunch account is always near $0 (they charge $2 for an egg roll and a bottle of juice, 120% of a pizza eight times the size of an eggroll and a bag of Doritos). At home it's usually a different story, I'm pretty much hydrated and usually not near starving but all the hours I spent in school have killed and good mood I may have had for the day. I decide to push through it anyway and the results are inconsistent but the feeling is always the same. I put tons of effort into homework and get an F and sometimes I get an A with very little effort, but either way I always feel like crap. In general it seems like just the thought of school automatically kills and productive mood I may have. I've woken up 2 hours earlier because I knew I didn't have to go to school that day. The only day I really feel productive is on Saturday. I'm well rested from Friday and I know that I still have Sunday to get anything I need done, but I put all my effort into something that ends up dying because of stress from school or health issues once again. I spent three hours cleaning and organizing my room this Saturday, on Sunday I'm struggling to catch up with assignments I put off since Thursday for personal improvement and hobbies. One of my only solutions to my particular problem I've found to work is to disregard school work. School generally causes a lot of stress and is more like an institution to beat me down and make me feel dumb and worthless than to actually teach anything. I think that if you have some major external influence causing stress then you should disregard it, and if that's not a plausible option then find a way to work around it or strike a balance. I'm trying to do that and so far it's been successful but its always one step forward and three steps backwards because of school.
Smoke and grow marijuana. Smoking it will make you surprizingly motivated to do things, mostly because everythings now 10x as fun. And growing it will make you commit to something and get some responsibility pulsing. [editline]10th April 2011[/editline] Oh, and selling it will make you mad cash and strive to generally improve and make cash.
Reward yourself mentally, then work hard, then reward again. I've heard that cigarettes believe it or not can actually be helpful for that, I wouldn't encourage starting just for that reason though. Take time to chill out and designate other time for work :)
I miss being a child when I would get up at 6am just to watch cartoons and have fun in the garden all day running around with an abundance of energy. :sigh:
Drum music you say? I mean, just look at the title!
I get really creative late at night for some reason. I sit with Hammer open all day with no idea what to make but when it gets late I start making awesome stuff.
I work the same way. I'll be completely unproductive all day, then my brain becomes filled with ideas after 9 pm.
