It's heavily implied to be an atomic war, Especially when the blind person begins pulling out his hair and saying "It's coming out in clumps!" as that's a sign of radiation poisoning.
They probably left it ambigious for comedy.

I Love this show but its not on as much as it was
I thought it was better this season, but doesn't compare to peepshow...fcuk 6 episode seasons
I think the show's brilliant. The second series is my personal favourite.

The first episode of the first series was the best thing i ever watched but after the first series it started going downhill for me, so i switched to Harry and Paul.
