I can't see Michael Cera playing tough or angry in a convincing way.
I wanna see this.
But just think about that for a minute...evil ex boyfriends...let it soak in a bit more. Then take a look at everything else in the movie, anime and video game references, the repeated misuse of the word epic, Michael Cera and a pink haired girl.
Even if it turns out to be the best movie ever the concept is stupid.
How does that affect the movie being good at all?
Anyways, I'm glad to hear Michael Cera did a good job in this. I was worried he wasn't going to be able to do Scott justice.
The whole point of the movie is that it's supposed to be a bit silly and childish. You're not supposed to take it seriously and scrutinise every detail.

He doesn't really need to. Most of his threats are pretty terrible, such as...

They're mostly just corny, and he's only really "Agressive" when he fights, and they had a professional fight choreographer for those scenes so they should be pretty cool.
Also, I don't see how 'awesome' is any better than 'epic' but people use that 1000% more.
Looks good, im going to see this
You've clearly never read western comics, or played a video game. Either that or you need to pull your head out of your ass. There's no anime stuff in the movie. It's all based on western comics and 8-bit styling. Pick up a copy of Spider Man or go play Metal Slug, or even an X-Men arcade game and you'll see the point.
I've played plenty of video games, but never read a comic (was too busy reading Voltaire and Dante, mind you). I know the movie's based on a Western comic, but it still seems heavily-anime-oriented. Plus, the video game references it makes are mostly either unfunny or too old/obscure for most people to get. It wouldn't be so bad if that wasn't the only main source of humour.

That's the sort of art that's in the comic book?
I'm rather glad I never read them, in my opinion.
then shut the fuck up, don't watch the movie and leave this thread.
[editline]05:42AM[/editline]
I seriously don't see the point of going into a thread about a certain movie and saying how much it sucks (before you watch it) and how much you aren't going to watch.
There's a thread about Titanic 2 where everybody talked about how much it would suck before it came out, so no.
Also, I don't see how 'awesome' is any better than 'epic' but people use that 1000% more.
Both are stupid and neither should be used. "An awesome of awesome awesomeness" would be much much worse.

But the movie is out. (if you are in north america)
It has a rotten tomatoes review score of 79 and a meta-critic score 69.
If you want to talk about how much it sucks go watch it first and then come back because you are starting to be a troll to everyone who has seen it.
I will be watching it again hour. Hopefully the sound will work.
I'm gonna go see it Saturday
It's gonna be wayy to crowded today.
I like this movie. Ignore the stupid tagline because that isn't the tone of this movie and I don't remember them ever saying anything stupid like "epic fail" in it. It doesn't pander to anime geeks at all because if it did I wouldn't have laughed at any of the jokes they made. They do target the audience of gamers and fans of the comic which is what the movie should do considering its source material.
They did cut a lot of the stuff about Envy, Kim, and even the background story to all of the boyfriends save for the first. Also a couple of characters were cut out entirely like Joseph and Lisa (I think that is her name.) Some of this stuff wasn't important though some of it I think was cut leaving kind of vague gaps between characters and some characters weren't as developed as they were in the comic.
Also they did an odd job of switching the roles of the characters in who does what. It is very odd. They also change how things were done from the comic. Seeing as this is the first movie I ever watched where I read the comic first I guess this is kind of normal for comic movies.
Even still I think you will love this movie if you read it or not it just might be a good idea to read them at one point to fully understand the plot.
I swear some of you guys could have looked at March of the Penguins and complained about it being a documentary even though that is what they advertised it as.
Here's the short that was on [AS] last night.

Thanks! I was actually going to look for that, but forgot.
Went to the midnight premiere for the movie and I believe this is one of the best movies I've seen all year next to Inception. The entire writing of the film was true to the comics and Michael Cera did an amazing job, portraying Scott. But Kieran Cullen, definitely stole the show as Wallace, who had the most perfect timing for when scott was fighting or was doing something else. Edgar Wright definitely did an amazing job at casting the actors in the movie from the mysterious yet charming Ramona Flowers to the Obsessed Sex Bob-Omb Fan Girl, Knives Chau. Overall this movie was true to the comics and had funny moments throughout the movie. The best part was the funny parts were never forced.
Overall: 9/10

Ouch, looks like a dissapointing opening weekend.
I hope that won't be true, The Expendables and Eat, Pray, and Love both suck.
Opening weekend will basically set how well the movie does for the year. A strong opening weekend is very important and estimates can be made quite early. Scott Pilgrim was expected to be competing with The Expendables for the lead, not sitting behind Eat Pray Love.
I don't think there is a lot of appeal for this movie which will make it suffer. Good thing the movie doesn't need a sequel because they wouldn't get money to make it. I hope this doesn't ruin the director's career. He definitely needs to make more movies.
