Now before you go "lol Green Day is mainstream they suck :downs:" actually give this album a try, it has some great riffs, and catchy songs. In my opinion, Their 2'nd best album. (The first being Kerplunk!)

I just went through every single page in this thread, I have a whole bunch of music to listen to now. Thanks everybody.
Album suggestions of my own that I didn't catch anywhere in this thread -
Sleep - Holy Mountain

One of the best stoner/doom metal albums with some absolutely awesome riffs. A must listen if you're into doom.
Ufomammut - Idolum

More stoner/doom, but ridiculously heavy. This album is a trip. If you like Electric Wizard or Sleep, check this out.
Do Make Say Think - Goodbye Enemy Airship the Landlord is Dead

Definitely one of my favorite post-rock albums, its really up there. If anything, I have to listen to all of it at once. Very relaxing album, I'm not even exactly sure how to describe it myself.
Chad Vangaalen - Soft Airplane

A very talented solo indie musician. He plays every instrument himself, and has even hand crafted some. Shit, he even makes his own album artwork (check Infiniheart and Skelliconnection) and animates his own music videos. I mean seriously, this guy is fucking awesome. Just look at him.

Face Candy - This is Where We Were

A somewhat obscure album, I would be surprised if anybody here has heard of it. This is a band formed by Eyedea, Mazta I, Abzorbr, Carnage, JT Bates, and Casey O' Brien. This album is a collection of live songs, all improvised. Its freestyle/free jazz, and I would say check it out if you're into hip-hop as well. Very honest, down to earth stuff with some amazing lyrics.
Black Moth Super Rainbow - Dandelion Gum

Absolutely insane psychedelic/electronic/experimental band led by Tobacco. Its difficult to describe exactly what it sounds like, but its something else. Give this album a chance, it will definitely grow on you. The first listen through it is amazing.
Atheist - Elements

Very jazzy and progressive death metal ahead of it's time, very different sounding than what you would expect. It is awesome.
The Evpatoria Report - Golevka

An outstanding post-rock album, it does not get much more epic than this. And I seriously mean epic, this album takes you places.
Ulver - Perdition City

Dark and ambient electronic/experimental album. Very trip-hopish sound to it as well. Definitely check it out.
Agents of Oblivion - self-titled

Dax Riggs' project after Acid Bath split up. Not nearly as heavy as Acid Bath, but just as awesome if not even better. If you like Acid Bath, this is mandatory to check out. Its fairly calm, but its an awesome album.
I know this post is ridiculously huge, but seriously, check something out. These are all awesome albums.

I'd agree with this one. Not super duper awesomely fantastic but I really enjoy throwing it on the record player every now and then. Good album by a good band.

Mr. Beast - Mogwai
Amazing example of Post-Rock right here. As soon as Auto Rock kicks in, you'll be hooked. Come On, Die Young is really good too.

Green Day's old stuff was good old punk rock. Shame they sold out with American Idiot to a way more poppy sound.

Yes.
But it isn't a bad thing. People need to learn why its great, not to bandwagon like a sheep.

The level of songwriting on most of their albums is unmatched.
The level of songwriting on most of their albums is unmatched.
Of course, but people may get the wrong idea and call us elitists if we discuss anything remotely about The Beatles.
Beatles is over-hyped.
They were a fantastic and diverse band, and they were very important. They have and always will deserve their popularity.

Everyone throw out your pretensions about Bjork. This is a great album that ranges from funky House to somber chamber jazz. The highlight is Bjork incredible voice which does take some time getting used to but for me the enjoyment comes from hearing her pronounce words in a way that i'm not used to.
Tycho - Past is Prologue

Incredible album by Tycho, some of the songs are a rework from his previous album Sunrise Projector, and a lot better.
He kind of reminds me of Boards of Canada, but much more melodic, and more happy. Now BoC fans will probably rage at me, saying I don't understand the melodies of BoC, but oh well.
Here's some songs if you are lazy to search:

Last rights by Skinny Puppy
I would not recommend this as your first Skinny Puppy album, but it is a necessity for any Skinny Puppy or industrial collection. The album begins with Love in Vein and from there the drug educed nightmare begins; it the ends with Download an eleven minute ambient "sound sculpture," a superb end to the album.
Track ten is missing.

Ween - Chocolate and Cheese
and
Ween - The Mollusk
Ween are awesome. I read a review which said their music sounds like if you got two stoner friends and locked them in a studio for two weeks. On Chocolate and Cheese it sounds like there's a different group playing each song. It's the same singer on every song, which is awesome because it's a really diverse album. There's a soul-funk song (Freedom of 76'), a country song (Drifter in the Dark), and a Pink Floydy guitar solo (A Tear For Eddie), and that's only 3 of the songs! The Mollusk sounds more constrained. Most of the songs have a nautical theme to it. Ocean Man was in the ending credits to the Spongebob Squarepants movie! A lot of people just dismiss them as a joke or a comedy band. Nah. They do have a lot of silly songs, but listen to Buckingham Green, A Tear For Eddie, or It's Gonna Be Alright and tell me that they don't move you in the slightest. They're very catchy, very creative, diverse, talented, and funny although pretty low brow if you don't mind that. Still check them out!

Whom the Moon a Nightsong Sings
This is a bit of an odd one, it's a compilation album featuring nearly 20 different European artists who belong to a similar ideology, that of a folkish, dreamlike musical approach to nature and similar subjects. It features bands like Les Discrets and an unreleased song by Ulver. It's a very relaxing album, and though the songs are by many different artists, it's very well matched, it flows like an album should. Perhaps because most of the songs were written specifically for it.
Also, the album art is absolutely beautiful. It was painted by the singer of Les Discrets

That sounds brilliant. Will definitely give it a listen.
No Prayer For The Dying

Essentially the Di'Anno era grit with Bruce Dickinson, Iron Maiden go with a less epic approach then usual. Often disregarded by fans for this, this is a great album for those feeling the bore of any other Maiden albums. This song has quite a few catchy ones rather than epic heavy ones, like Holy Smoke and Hooks In You. It's not a long album either, so give it a shot. 7/10
Nine Inch Nails: Still

Very peaceful album, nice acoustic covers to some of NIN's earlier works and beautiful paino instrumentals.

One of the best 80s constructed album I have heard. It has a thick 80s sound that can't be compared, and it is sad they didn't release an album after this one as this was a point in their career where they hit the top of the reviews.
Its something you can't not like to be honest, a period in music where music just can't be hated.
Go for it.

The only band that my mum showed me that I actually like. They're fucking awesome, all their songs are instrumental. Get fucking blazed before you listen to any of it and you'll see why.
Shores of Orion from that album is fantasic.

For any power metal fan, there's Stratovarius. And for any Stratovarius, fan, there's Timo Tolkki. Did you know he performed the vocals on Strato's first 3 albums? Not only that, but he is purely amazing. This is essential Power Metal listening, and replacing the abrasiveness of Speed Metal is pure melody of Timo's work, topped off with incredible production (given you have the right equaliser setting and listen to it relatively loud). It's even worth a shot for non-metal fans. It's cheesy, but awesome. 4/5

British indie rock at it's best. Every song is absolutely of epic proportions. Put it on the record player, put some headphones on, sit in a dark room and listen to what Ian Brown, Mani, Reni and John Squire have to say.
