For me by the end of this album gives off a feeling like I just got through switching through channels on TV for its 50 minute runtime.
Lots of sampling and strange sound turned into really catchy songs.

My favorite track on this album has to be "I Am Who I Am".

Very late but this is a nice album. What Damon albarn did between gorillaz albums. (formed a little group with some other guys I forget who - bassist from the clash and others)

Jamiroquai, their best songs on an album. Very nice funky music.
Also, Mumford and Sons are a good upcoming band:

Their first album was superb, I suggest that.

Absolutely brilliant album.
If you like Phil Collins. This is when Genesis brought their "distinct" sound together. Give it a try.
I thought i'd be a smug twat and post this.

Lemuria by El Hijo De La Aurora.
Amazing psychadelic rock with doom metal influences from Peru.

Humbug has received major critical acclaim, with many praising the band's newfound maturity, not the normal Arctic Monkeys everyone is used to.

Every song on the album is a gem IMHO.

Their debut album is actually very VERY good. It is definitely not the sound that they became.. but it is a really great listen. Really don't know why it is overlooked so much.
You don't have to be a fan of any of their work, it is early psychadelic sounding. Definitely not Prog rock.
Crystal Castles (II)

Seriously fucking good album of Electronic music. Great for dancing, and a nice original sound. The song Celestica is my favorite right now, absolutely crazy.

I only just revived this thread. And that album was only released yesterday. :colbert:
Periphery - Periphery and Tesseract - Concealing Fate EP if you're into djent. Both are equally awesome!

Alcest - Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde

I recently discovered the Black Metal band Alcest and to begin with listened most to their newer album Écailles de lune, which is also a great album. But now that I've listened to their first full length.. I don't know what to say, I'm speechless. This album is so fucking beautiful that I feel empty inside every time I listen to it. Now for those of you who cannot stand harsh vocals I can tell you this: There is no harsh vocals at all in the entire album, it's all clean and soft. I actually don't know if this can even be consided a BM album (what would you define it as?). The dreamy atmosphere this album creates is just beyond this world. Every single song on this album is great, but my favorites are Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde, Sur l'autre rive je t'attendrai and Les Iris. Les Iris is one of the best fucking songs I've ever heard! It's so beautiful it almost brought me to tears, and nowadays I never cry to music.
The only song that I would have a tiny problem with is the last track Tir Nan Og, I don't really think it fits in the rest of the album since it adds some elements that remind me of some African music or something. But even that track is actually good.
Seriously, at least download this album and give it a listen, I have yet to buy it since I only recently discovered this band. But damn I will buy it as soon as I can.
Alcest is amazing.
And yeah they're not black metal but more a blend of shoegaze, post-rock and post-metal. I've not listened to his debut but Ecailles de Lune has some black metal influences but you really don't need to enjoy black metal to enjoy Alcest.
Souvenirs is arguably better than Ecailles, I say as an absolute lover of both albums. Souvenirs just has this sense of childlike wonder which Ecailles trades for a much more introspective feel. Like I say I love them both either way :3:
I'll need to listen to Souvenirs

Brilliant song writing, so much sorrow and brilliantly composed. I can't really go straight out and say "THIS IS DEPRESSING", because it is stupid to just mark these songs like that. Yes the last album there is when he was truly broken as a human being.
Give these a listen and simply understand the glory that is Nick Drake.
God I love Nick Drake so much
Akayz what's your top of the 3? I listened to Pink Moon first and only once, but I connected with Five Leaves Left the most, and I own Bryter Layter. I feel I should give them all a listen again because they're all different and all great
Pink Moon is truly his most sorrow-filled album. But I would say his greatest is his first album.
But to be fair, they are really hard to place in order.. they are all masterpieces. Pink Moon may be my personal favourite.

Comus - First Utterance
Despite first glances at the cover, it isn't in any way a metal album. It is actually Freak Folk... and I'm really liking it. Not the craziest album, but it is enjoyable and I will listen to it a lot as part of my obscure collection.

Can't remember if I already posted this or not.
It's quite possibly my favorite album ever.

Grindstone by Shining.
Everyone seems to only care about Blackjazz, but I recently checked out the older albums and it's just as good as Blackjazz.
It's not as aggressive as Blackjazz, but it's really cool. It's jazzier than Blackjazz, with lots of flutes and electronics and stuff.
It's got more of an art rock style rather than the black metal/mathcore-like style from Blackjazz.

Akron/Family - Akron/Family
Very fresh sounding Freak Folk or Psychadelic Folk. It is very experimental with sounds created by unconventional musical objects. It is a very bright sounding record imo, and the vocal work is great. There is something I want to compare it to, but I can't really put my finger on it yet.
They've also released a new album only this month.

Akron/Family II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT
I haven't actually listened to it, but I can't wait. They are an awesome group.

Power metal simply put, every positive aspect ofthe genre is tied up all in one neat little package , and after the recording completion, Helloween probably said "oh fuck yea we just created the greatestnpower metal album ever"

Sly & the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On
Definitely a landmark record that needs to be somewhere in a collection. One of my favourite albums of all time, hopefully more bands today can be inspired by this group. This told the world that Soul and Funk are in the world to stay and not be buried by the surgeance of Prog and Hard Rock.

Vitamin String Quartet - VSQ Performs Lady Gaga
Beautifully orchestrated versions of Lady Gaga's songs. Wonderfully produced and has an amazing sound.
