From the general scattering of music listeners, they tend to not like anything they made outside of Red or In The Court.
I do like Starless and Bible Black a lot.. great album.
I can see the accessible tracks people would go for on those albums, but you'd think prog fans would be a little more open :frown:

See, I wasn't talking about hardcore prog fans :v:
How I see it, is that if people want to start getting into music properly, they'd go for the albums that have been propped up by a lot of fans.
It is generally accepted now that In The Court of the Crimson King, to be one of the benchmark albums in the history of rock.
The albums thereafter, were more disappointing for some, who were left unimpressed.
Those people need to go back and give Lizards and Larks' Tongues in Aspic a few more listens. There is so much more than what meets the eye at first.
I liked Death Note, too.
I never watched a single episode of Death Note, but strangely everytime I mention Death Note the only 2 songs people know are "What's Up People" and "Zetsubou Billy". :frown: They aren't even that good compared to the rest of their music...
Watch it
I don't watch anime and it was fucking brilliant

One of the greatest Rock Operas ever composed. I can literally listen to this 5 times in a row and still love every minute of it.

Premiata Forneria Marconi - Storia Di Un Minuto (Story of a Minute)
I don't reckon many are accustomed to foreign prog rock, but this is definitely a place to start. It is absolutely sublime and you get a true feel of the culture. The downside is not understanding the words, but the expression is strong and you are still able to connect to it's genius.
Being made around the time that Prog Rock was starting out I am amazed at how groundbreaking it actually is.
This was before Dark Side of The Moon, Red and all the greats that sold greatly and have been put in the history books. This album is what I'd regard as something that can be put into great prog rock.
I urge you to give it a listen.

Brian Eno - Another Green World
Want something truly artful and legendary? Go for this album, it needs to have a place in your collection. Brian Eno laid down something extraordinary with this record, everything track just spurted out something new.
Fans of Art Rock and Ambient should go for this album, because in my opinion... it sparked off a lot of things.
"The Big Ship" is the song I want to be playing as I die while drifting through space
"Goodbye Blues" by the Hush sound

Varied music if you like indie pop, alternative rock, indie rock or jangle pop.
Ravedeath, 1972 - Tim Hecker (if you can't see the text)

Posted about this in 'What are you listening to?' as well. This album is just an amazing experience honestly. The soundscapes produced because of the recording method (live in a massive church, revised later in studio.) just encompass you and create grand walls of sound. All through the album you're kept on the edge of dissonance, and the result is something amazing. Make sure you listen to this one on good headphones or a great set of speakers.

Ornette Coleman - Of Human Feelings
I'm not sure exactly what to describe the genre, Avante-Garde Jazz Funk maybe?
Superb album it is, if you're looking for something not too experimental but at the same time soothing and funky, this is what to go for.
It is a complex one to judge as there is plenty going on when you hear it, I enjoyed it the first time I heard but I probably need to give it a few more listens to fully grasp it.
One not to miss.
Derek and the Dominoes.

Really, Eric Clapton AND Duane Allman? What more could a blues rocker like myself ever want?
