Their essential shoegaze/dream pop list is also great.
Don't copy me, bitch
Come at me bro
Don't copy me, bitch
No :smug:
Bardo Pond's Amanita. Great band I've just discovered. They are a wonderful mix of psychedelic, shoegaze, space rock. Sometimes it reminds me of Boris, but I would say they are a lot more about "groove" than power. This is awesome and worth every bit of a listen.
Oh wow, I've just gone through the whole thread and bought: Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Elton John - Tumbleweed Connection Fleetwood Mac - Rumours Guns 'n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction Marvin Gaye - What's Going On? Television - Marquee Moon I just have a few questions and it would be great if you could answer (with reasons why):keke: 1) Can you recommend me a 'Yes' album? Why? 2) Can you recommend me a Stevie Wonder album? Why? 3) Can you recommend me a Johnny Cash album? Why? 4) Can you recommend me a Jamiroquai album? Why? 5) What does it mean when an artist is said to be before/after their time?
5) What does it mean when an artist is said to be before/after their time?
If an artist is said to have made something ahead of their time, it means that they made music in a style that wouldn't really catch on until later.

It's slightly poppier but still prog, making it highly accessible, the songs are great and it's a nice length overall. Others will probably recommend Fragile, but I've never taken to that album much :v: [editline]6th May 2011[/editline] Also Marquee Moon is fucking unbelievable

Never got into Yes but Roundabout is still pretty sweet. For Johnny Cash I recommend American III - American VI. They range from dark and depressing to uplifting and enlightened. Some tracks just don't fit with Cash's voice but overall I like all of them. Very experimental time for him. Also check out his cover of Rusty Cage by Soundgarden and Hurt by Trent Reznor. Hurt is the most depressing thing I have ever heard, I will warn you. You seriously will probably cry. [editline]5th May 2011[/editline] John Prine - John Prine Live Very folky and a bit country. Prine interacts with the audience very well on this album. I always find this album to be uplifting and it reminds me of the silly nature of life in general. Pretty unknown and obscure these days, a shame since John's brilliant and whimsical songwriting is extremely apparent in this album.
5) What does it mean when an artist is said to be before/after their time?
It means they sound extremely modern/retro compared to the norm.
I don't listen to music.
I don't listen to music.
uh then why are you in a music forum
uh then why are you in a music forum
Cuz I wana start.
Cuz I wana start.
Mudhoney - The Lucky Ones A Silver Mt. Zion - Kollaps Tradixionales
Cuz I wana start.
well then this is the right thread to start (but you can just forget facepunch and go to my last.fm page, all the best music is there anyway)
you should probably start with something that is pretty widely respected and has a broad appeal like the beatles

Yes - Close To The Edge = One great cosmic experience, music goes in all directions and is an essential prog album. Stevie Wonder - Innervisions = realise that this man is blind but has so much to express through songwriting and artistry. He understands life probably more than we do. Johnny Cash - Ride This Train= Start with his golden years before his "death era". I find he is true to what he is in those times. Although my favourite is "Solitary Man" Jamiroquai - Emergency On Planet Earth = it's funky to the point where it blows your mind, made in the 90s which is a surprise. They were way ahead when it came to acid jazz. Music can be timeless in the sense that when they try something in a new direction, it can always be accessible and thrilled even if you had not lived through the times it was made. I didn't live through when Marvin Gaye was alive, but I now know what his idologies were through his music. And it will always be remembered and understood by many. Maybe The Beatles are losing face because they are reknowned as the greatest, but disregarding them isn't right. They were very creative.
Could anyone recommend me some Bright Eyes albums? I only have I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning.

I need a Dance-Punk album that's not DFA1979. I was thinking Does It Offend You? Yeah? but I dunno where to start.
Thankyou so much!
No probs. Shame about the lurkers on here though. :3: [editline]6th May 2011[/editline] Tangerine Dream's Phaedra A great ambient journey, one of the greatest I've heard from the genre. Wish I had the LP of it.
