Watershed is a cool album but it's clearly showing off that they are going mainstream.
Porcelain Heart is a wonderful example.

I'm confused as to why Opeth fans love Morningrise as much as they do. I thought they'd be more into Orchid :v:

Sorry, but I can't see how Watershed could be considered "mainstream" in any way.
By that logic, Damnation was "mainstream" as well. Or just about anything post-MAYH.

This is the newest album by ohGr. A must have for any industrial/electronic enthusiast. Even if you are not familiar with the genre, it is always good to try new things. It has just been released so consider it next time you go music shopping.
Death - For the Whole World to See
(no, not the death metal band)

This is a collection of tracks that were originally recorded back in 1974, by three black brothers from Detroit. It's punk before punk was punk. Excellent release by a band that was ahead of its time, although unfortunately not as recognized as they should have been (they didn't get any support since they refused to change their name to something more marketable).

Probably just means "more accessible" due to lack of death metal vocals.

That's what I figured, but Damnation and lots of tracks from other albums also lack death metal vocals.

Good thing you payed the extra $100 to have the foam removed. :smug:
Oh no, opeth discussion
Takes almost as long to get going as...
their music
your post makes no sense
Your argument is going nowhere and neither does opeth's music for a good six minutes
It's a metaphor
I don't see an argument anywhere.

That would be funny if you weren't a post-rock fan :smug:
But that's the whole point of post rock, it's supposed to be like that
Opeth is just plain boring at times

The Birthday Party - Junkyard

Great album from an excellent Australian post-punk band (first band of Nick Cave and Rowland S. Howard). Very loud and crazy. Landmark album from Melbourne's early post-punk scene.
This video explains it all:

Post Rock and Progressive Rock relate to each other in big ways.
Don't really care, I don't like Opeth full stop, listened to all their stuff can't dig it end of story

okay
now how is this relevant to the thread at all and why did you post it

Well thankyou for letting us know. That was very useful. :smug:
I figured he was telling me I should like opeth because they're prog rock and that it's linked to post rock
misinterpreted, SORRY BRO

It's not as heavy, very easy to listen to.
Less heavy =/= more mainstream, it is probably their weirdest album
Less heavy =/= more mainstream, it is probably their weirdest album
How so.
The album is very easily accessible, there's A SHITTON of merch just about that fucking album. They played Coil on the SWEDISH PUBLIC TV.
And they are on roadrunner records.
I think they are going mainstream, and you can hear it.
They're signed to Roadrunner, therefore the album was distributed to a wider audience and granted them more popularity. That doesn't mean it was a particularly easy record. To me it's among their most in depth and complex releases
My previous post was erroneous because obviously signing to a major label got them more popularity, but that's not a reason to insult the album

I like the album, but it's not my favourite of theirs. Heir Apparent is pretty amazing and Lotus Eater is awesome.
Still Life is their most accessible imo.
Damnation is still good, but it hasn't got as much of a kick as that. It's not THAT good of a prog album, but still a good attempt.
Damnation and Deliverance suffer because neither have the contrast to make the heavy parts crushing or the soft parts soothing, they just kind of plod along without enough variation to me

Weren't they supposed to be one huge album or what was it?
Yeah they were meant to be but Mikael had a nervous breakdown in the middle of recording because he was writing the albums as they were being recorded, so the label put a 6 month gap between releases, damaging the point of the releases but saving Mikael's sanity by the sounds of things :v:
