I'm a big Who fan, so I'm going to recommend two of theirs.
Who's Next

This is what I consider to be their best studio album. It has my favourite songs from my favourite era of their career and they all sound good together as an album.
A number of the tracks were leftovers from Pete Townsend's abandoned "Lifehouse" project, which he envisioned as an interactive sci-fi rock opera. The only problem with Lifehouse, was that Pete was the only person who understood it, so it never happened. It did leave the band with a number of powerful, dystopian themed songs that they performed and recorded over a number of years.
All the tracks were written by Pete Townsend, apart from My Wife (written by John Entwistle) which is one of my favourites.
If you like The Who from the 60's, then you'd be more interested in My Generation. But if you like The Who from the 70's then Who's Next is the album.
My second recommendation is Quadrophenia (the original album, not the soundtrack from the film)

This is a rock opera, from the band who invented the rock opera. It tells the story of a mod in the 60's and his searching for an identity. If you want to read the story, I'd just look it up on wikipedia, it's quite a lot to explain otherwise.
It isn't just a collection of tracks, it's written like an opera, with leitmotifs and a definite story. The music is also some of their best work, IMO. Their other opera, Tommy was utter shite in comparison (again just my opinion), even though it was their biggest commercial success.

I acquired it on a whim, because a few people recommended it, and wow, this is exhilarating. It seems like good introductory jazz too since it's almost always lively and fast-paced, it doesn't get boring at all. I can't believe everybody's not listening to this instead of Kind of Blue.

As far as introductory jazz goes.. Love Supreme for me.
Mingus is master, too.
Here you go motherfucker, one of the most influential albums ever made.

The Pretty Things beat them to it
I can't believe everybody's not listening to this instead of Kind of Blue.
they should listen to bitch's brew instead
get some BRARARAR funk going on
The Pretty Things beat them to it
Ok, they invented it in the way Thomas Edison invented the light bulb.
Saw it, improved it, mass marketed it, became famous for it.
Who fucking cares about that anyway, you can ignore that sentence if you like.
So long as you go and listen to Quadrophenia and/or Who's Next right now. Although I wouldn't recommend listening to both of them at the same time.

Not his best, but essential. Frank Zappa starts to create a distinct style of music making here, it's comedy rock and progressive at the same time.

His most soothing Noise album to date. It's harsh, but it's creative and it is inspired. :smugdog:

The essential gateway Power Metal album. King of all power metal. Not that it's the best, but it's essentially the father of what power metal is today. A must listen for any and every music fan.
might consider that, power metal seems kind of gimmicky but if that's cool I'll give it a try
DO IT FAGGOT

I don't really listen to grindcore, but this album is closer to death/thrash than bands like Napalm Death which are more like hardcore punk. This is basically half an hour of overly fast and aggressive death metal.
I'm not very good at this whole recommendation thing, so here's a video :v:

Herbie Hancock's Head Hunters.
It's Jazz Funk but feels like it could've been made this year. Once you hear this, you'll be confused how they made this almost 40 years ago.

Misplaced Childhood by Marillion
Imagine that Peter Gabriel had never left Genesis and went into the 80's with them
This is pretty much what you would get
Favorite song off the album:

Great album it is.
I need to hear their recent stuff.

I've only heard their first three albums, I should probably do the same

Kurdaitcha - Mamaleek
My first "black metal" album and it has a whole lot of approachability to it thanks to the inspirations of other genres like Industrial and even World. It's textured, catchy and really interesting. Would suggest anyone download it. It's from some San Francisco brothers who have never been seen other than a picture of the two when they were children. Even if you don't like Black Metal, or any form of metal you can totally appreciate this album.
It's pay-what-you-want so drop a dollar at least, you won't regret it. http://enemieslist.net/mamaleek/

Jethro Tull - War Child
8/10
I'm a big fan of this album, mostly for the song Bungle in the Jungle

Love it.

I was scared when I read Industrial and Black Metal. But they found a way to make it work. I also now know what enemies list is, I saw it talked about on Sleepwalker's page and just thought it was blog or something.
So you've heard the album before?
So you've heard the album before?
Nope, but I did download and listen to it after I read your review.
Oh, awesome. Did you enjoy it?
Oh, awesome. Did you enjoy it?
It was good, a bit noisy however.
Yeah, most ELHR stuff is. Lots of Shoegaze and Border-line drone. If you haven't, I'd highly suggest Have A Nice Life's Deathconsciousness on ELHR. The best album I've ever heard. It's some sort of combo of Shoegaze, Low-fi, atmosphere with pop like synth songs similar to that of Depeche Mode and with a Joy Division vibe.

Band: A Dark Halo
Album: Catalyst
Genre: Cyber Metal/Industrial Metal/Melodic Death Metal (I usually call it Cyber Melodeath)
Their only album. Wasn't exactly a long lived band, but they made up for it by being incredibly awesome! In my opinion the best Cyber Metal/Cyber Melodeath album ever made.
Example: Apex Realised

Brilliant album. Not listened to it in a while, actually. Was a huge favourite of mine about 2 years back.
Awesome, awesome reggae from an awesome Jew.

Death Grips' Exmilitary.
It's a free mixtape: http://thirdworlds.net/files/Death%20Grips%20-%20Exmilitary.zip
Experimental and crazy as fuck hip hop. My mind needs a rest.

Callisto - Noir
Interesting mixture of metal and jazzy beats.
Very chill, almost wintery album.
The best album by this Finnish post-metal band who are from my hometown :smug:
