The voice doesn't "drift" like some do nowadays, this is sheer power and being a live recording this is legendary. She can deliver at such a grand scale and you can really connect with this so easily. I'm lost for words that it's an album from the 50s. Just adds to the trueness of it, to be honest.

Jim O'Rourke - The Visitor two albums based around long instrumental folk. Much of the playing is acoustic guitar directly inspired by John Fahey. The compositions are long and take their time to evolve. But there's also lots of different instrumentation. Jim's glitter ball albums beautiful and intimate suites of instrumental folk with a strong chamber music vibe. Really lovely to listen to.
Absolutely breathtaking. This is a double album full of weird noise experiments, ambient noodlings, and lo-fi indie rock ditties. There's a lot of tracks but not one of them is a dud. There's enough diversity and interesting sounds to keep it sounding fresh. This is sort of like GY!BE going punk so check it out.
I see your "Soundtracks for the Blind" and raise you
Specifically for Akayz, I'd recommend I don't listen to much Bob Dylan (yet!) but he's compared to him. Really raw, powerful vocals with a very simple, but elegant acoustic background for all his songs, generally.

I recommend this track. Only dubstep artist I enjoy.
Getz and Nuage - Anywhere Here This was released a few days ago, but I can tell that it will be one of my favourites for years to come. Minimal / experimental Drum and Bass at its best, with Nuage contributing his usual soulful and atmospheric style combined with Getz's more futuristic and glitchy tendencies. Here's a sample from one of my favourite tracks. Really stripped back, yet deep and beautiful in my opinion. Is The Way: Another fantastic tune, really menacing bassline with a kick like a heart beat and clicking percussion that's almost tripping over itself. Really chilling vocals come in, but you don't hear them in this clip. Maniac: One last track. Insomnia Shadows:
What would you say is a good starter "creative" drum n bass album?
It depends on what area of Drum and Bass you want to try. There's Intelligent / Atmospheric / Minimal, which is the style of the above album and probably my favourite region. There's also Neurofunk / Techstep / Darkstep which is a bit faster and, well, darker. And Liquid Funk which is a bit more accessible. A good example I could give now is Blu Mar Ten's Natural History, which has examples of all three of the types of drum and bass I mentioned but is mostly minimal. I'm intrigued. Thanks. Any other artists I should check out?
Bop for minimal, LM1 for atmospheric (both had an album out recently), Rockwell for experimental Neurofunk, Calibre for Liquid Funk. There are many more, but these are some good examples to see what type of drum and bass you might want to get into.
Yeah, I'm really into minimal stuff actually. I'll be sure to check some Bop out. Do you know if Bibio is any good?
Whoops, fixed the last two soundcloud links.
I'll get his "The Amazing Adventures of One Curious Pixel" album.
Yeah, I'm really into minimal stuff actually. I'll be sure to check some Bop out. Do you know if Bibio is any good?
Haven't really listened to much of Bibio to have an opinion, but I'll try some tomorrow.
If you like minimal stuff that's a little garage/dnb related. Go for Mount Kimbie and James Blake(bit more dubstep oriented). Some nice sounds are going on there too.
I'll be sure to try them, thanks
I would go ahead and give you something a little extreme when it comes to minimal stuff, but I've only just met you. :v:
Yeah, I'm really into minimal stuff actually. I'll be sure to check some Bop out. Do you know if Bibio is any good?
I've listened to Bibio, and he's pretty damn good. You'd enjoy him a lot.

Wrong), but the genre itself is quite good. This album is a great example. Quite short, but makes up for it through sheer awesomeness! The guitar sounds a bit thin at times though.
Informative. Then I wonder what Djent is.
I explained that in this thread.
Ah, what the hell :smugdog:
That was great! Perhaps you would enjoy this, from Bop's first album. It's a similar minimal style, although a bit darker. Makes me think of a rainy day.
How To Destroy Angels - How To Destroy Angels (2010) The only release by this Trent Reznor side project with Atticus Ross and Mariqueen Maandig. It's very relaxing, short-and-sweet bit of post-industrial with a 28 minute running time.

fuck yea, 36 chambers is one of the strongest rap albums I've heard. every line explodes with coolness, and the chemistry is perfect. also RZA's best work maybe.
