Tim Hecker's Harmony In Ultraviolet
Really full on flowing drone, noise ambient album. In my opinion, if you are into things that fit into the "psychedelic" category, get this into your library right away.
There is something about that surge of smooth noise that just massages your ears. In no way is this harsh, or does it "challenge" you. It's melodic too, which is nice... feels composed rather than an improvised thing.
Although in reality this is a full on take you to a different place album. Great experience.

oh my god.
dredg - el cielo.
This album is amazing (to me, atleast). alternative rock mixed in with extremely weird elements, odd sounds at some points, and has a beautiful concept. (this is nothing unusual for this band). It's almost like there's progressive rock influence, but I for one would not directly consider them prog. Basically, 3 extreme key points to the concept of this are dreams, "sleep paralysis", and a certain painting. Throughout the album they have extreme references to the previous subjects, even in their song titles (triangle = delta = delta wave sleep, etc). Gavin has a beautifully ghost-like voice, too.
I've always loved reading up on sleep, it's disorders, and their general phenomena and points of interest. my brothers would always play their albums when I was rather younger, and i even listened to this casually years later when I was older. looked back at it a second time, and when I found out the concept of it, I began falling in love with this fucking album.
el cielo means "the sky" in spanish. easily one of my top 5 favorite albums ever, along with their other two marvels (catch without arms, the pariah the parrot the delusion)
there's much more about this album that I would rather not blab on about right here, so you can either go look at this or go ahead and try to find out the rest of it yourself.

Jonas Palm's Ze Wörmnest (1980)
I have been listening to this a lot over the last few days and I wanted to share this very obscure/unknown early, experimental electronic album.
Only 500 copies were pressed on vinyl at the time and it was never reissued.
If you like things like Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, this is an important record for early synth oriented ambient lovers.
For more info check his recent interview here:

[release]I have uploaded his whole album in 320kbps with permission from the artist himself, therefore not illegal because his intent now is just for personal enjoyment rather than making money.

Give it a listen and tell me what you think.

A nice soulful voice here, a real shame what happened to him with his weight/drug/drinking problems, poor man. It was released on Curtis Mayfield's label, need you ask for more? This is some great classic soul/funk.
i love the really urban sound on soul records like that

True, it's really exhilirating imo. If you like some truly great funk try a UK 70s based band called "Cymande".
Goblin, Tyler The Creator
Why? Becauses it's better than all this other bullshit.

Tyler tells you to "eat a dick", that's what you might as well do.

I feel this thread might be better if it were sectioned out in genres, that way people would be able to navigate easier. I dunno.
Not really, there would be a clusterfuck of threads then.
True, but at least people would know what they're looking for.
Or they could just read a bit.

It's good this way, people get a spectrum of genres.

I don't even want to explain why. Just listen, and you'll see.
speaking of that i feel like the only one who never really "understood" the bends
decent record but i never got what made it up there with ok computer in most people's heads nor have i met anyone ever with that exact same opinion sadly

One of the best punk albums ever, if you even can classify it as that.

if you have any interest in extremely slow metal like sludge (not the mastodon kind) and doom, or drone, you need this. It's too dull if you're looking for something complex but there's something special about this album, it's one of the most absolutely bleak things I've ever heard. the riffs weigh a fucking ton and come straight from hell. I find a lot of extremely dark metal kinda lame but this is pretty cool.
so if that's your kind of thing interesting get all over this. guess thats a little niche audience though.
I'll have to give that another chance. I love their work in Thorr's Hammer and Sunn O))) but never got into that.

Intriguing.

Reverend Bizarre's "III: So Long Suckers"
Awesome heavy metal album.
Only has a few weak songs compared to the other EPIC songs.
Akayz, if you don't have it yet, get it.
Oh, and also, its 130 minutes long.
How do most people find album recommendations other than Facepunch?
RYM is like... most of my music searching. and /mu/ and other forums
Real life friends :smug:
sure wish my friends listened to music I was interested in ;_;
Real life friends :smug:
True, but usually it's the same kind of stuff.
I have an eclectic cousin who is probably the most relateable person, music-wise, in the family.
I'm still hunting down enthusiasts who want to help me with more goods!
sure wish my friends listened to music I was interested in ;_;
Surprisingly, both of my 2 best friends and 1 very good friends all listen to very similar music as me.
Though alot of that is most likely because they heard prog while we were doing something at our house.
Well, atleast thats how I got one of my friends into prog.
My other best friend started listening to Pink Floyd after I made him watch The Wall.
Most of my friends have a completely different taste in music compared to mine.
How do most people find album recommendations other than Facepunch?
I really don't find that much on Facepunch. I mostly check similar artists of bands/artists that I like. Blogspots that tend to have music I like. Sometimes other forums I lurk. Some other times just a good music label. A few times I've bought stuff that I know little to nearly nothing about and most of the time I like it.
How do most people find album recommendations other than Facepunch?
I don't really get that much music from Facepunch. I usually just get it from looking around at artists who are similar and so on.
Meh, similar this, similar that... Try new things :-)
Almost all music that I listen to I found out about through facepunch :v:
It's kind of sad really
I found Baroness, which is my all-time favourite, through last.fm though
