Must do that.
Whoa, hold up You haven't heard this
it should be a rule that you have to actually say why you are recommending the album And include a genre If I don't know the artist and you don't say anything about them other than "LISTEN TO THIS" or "BECAUSE ITS AWESOME" etc how am I meant to know whether I'm interested or not
Wow way to break my automerge
Whoa, hold up You haven't heard this
No, I've held back because 666 indicates something that must be heard.

yep... this Aphrodite's Child album is actually the bollox. [editline]21st July 2011[/editline]
What Anyhow, I recommend this album Imagine the funkiest thing you've ever heard and multiply it by slap bass This is what you get
Try some Cymande.
Band: Alrakis Album: Omega Cen Genre: Atmospheric/Ambient Black Metal Year: 2010 My only problem with this album is that it calls itself "Atmospheric". It's not really atmospheric. An Atmosphere is just a thin layer of gasses around a planet. "Cosmic" is a better word to describe this album.
Terrible album.
Oi that's good album art.
It's hideous.

The atmosphere on this album is incredible. It's difficult to recommend an album just on its atmosphere (that's not to say that's the only thing good about it; there's some great musicianship, especially from the sax player), but it really is worth listening to. Here's a random song:

THREAD TOO SLOW. NOT GOOD. fucking forgotten masterpiece. somewhere between folk and modern classical. like the spindly dark subtle playing of nick drake? led zeppelin's acoustic side? Wanna hear more from one of the great guitarists behind The Pentangle? ok get this album.

I just randomly found them in a German heavy metal mag too, which turned out to be a great find
Not an album, but an EP. Have A Nice Life - Time of Land Really great EP. It's free, has nice musics. It's very different from Deathconsciousness too which is nice. The Icon and the Axe and Woe Unto Us are by far one of my favorite HANL songs. Sometimes overlooked in his catalogue, this is probably his very first which you get a true vibe of what Stevie is about. Very funky, very solid and soulful.
Iroha - s/t Cool droning shoegaze album, sounds like a Jesu clone but manages to get away with it.
Is it a chill album with some really great epic build ups or is it like "DOES THIS NOISE SCARE YOU!? HOW ABOUT THIS ONE!?"

It's pretty chill, almost ambient. [editline]23rd July 2011[/editline] Still judging albums by the cover.

I recommend Ghostly Swim, it is a compilation of ambientish idm artists and downtempo trippy hoppy stuff from the Ghostly International label. Tycho, Matthew Dear, and Mux Mool are the more known artists from Ghostly. Cascade - Tycho Light Powered - Deastro Triple Chrome Dipped - Michna Active - Dark Party
Thundercat - The Golden Age of Apocalypse Its not officially out yet, but why am I recommending this? Because this dude is literally the most skilled and awesome sounding bassplayer around today, and this album is being produced by Flying Lotus, the finest beatmaker I know. Track 5 - For Love I Come (George Duke cover) An older FlyLo/Thundercat tune - Mmmhmm But Cheesercrice, Who is this thundercat dude? Check this out - http://ggendron.wordpress.com/2011/03/30/stephen-thundercat-bruner/ Apparently a few tracks have leaked out and are circulating the web, you can find a few on youtube but idk if theres a download anywhere... personally i'm waiting for the full release in late August. [editline]24th July 2011[/editline] maybe I should make a thread
1975 - Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy A classic album in many ways. Back in the 70s there were times when the singles were actually very good, even a single from this album was released and became a hit. It was almost 7 minutes long... no chance could a single be released at that length in today's mainstream. What's interesting here is that it's a concept album based on the songwriting duos journeys in the 2 or 3 years leading up to stardom. I don't much care for the concept but the music is damn good. Not a song here is out of place and it doesn't lose it's steam at all. If you don't know much about Elton's music, go for this one first definitely. It's glorious.
weird... I haven't heard Woodstock yet. Must do.
I'm not sure what made me want to listen to this - prior to hearing it I couldn't name a single song by Fleetwood Mac - but I'm glad I did. There are some brilliant songs (I've heard quite a few of the songs before and never realised they were by Fleetwood Mac), with some pretty emotional sections. Some catchy basslines, too (e.g. in The Chain).
I need to hear more Fleetwood records but I don't know what to go for after Rumours.
I need to hear more Fleetwood records but I don't know what to go for after Rumours.
The ones right before and after it.
