Is slowcore a thing? :raise:
Is slowcore a thing? :raise:
on wiki it's called "sadcore".
It's probably just okay to call it indie folk rock.
Slowcore is slowly played alternative rock, usually minimalistic, has nothing to do with indie folk.
Slowcore is slowly played alternative rock, usually minimalistic, has nothing to do with indie folk.
Has it got anything to do with hardcore punk then

GOSH.

the singer does sound indie folkish imo, but that's just my view.

minimalistic alt rock is not a thing at all.
I don't think "Alt Rock" is a distinct genre imo, it's like calling it experimental rock.

Martin Martini and the Bone Palace Orchestra - We're All Just Monkeys.
I wouldn't really know what to call them. They basically play rock, with a mad woodwind orchestra. It's great fun, quite light hearted in places, and some great playing. I'd try to say more but I honestly can't work out out.

relaxing... I don't know about that, it's pretty emotionally wrenching and gloomy. not exactly chillout music. but it's a totally great album. almost as good as:

Emotionally Wrenching and Gloomy is chillout.
Don't tell me Nick Drake makes you weep. :>
[editline]7th August 2011[/editline]
It is sad that they disbanded before their game was up.
haha i cant picture anyone putting on rhp or nick drake after a long day and just chillaxin
and maan I don't really find nick drake that depressing, I don't get why he has that reputation. obviously some really sad songs, mostly on the first album but like pink moon is just incredibly uplifting
this on the other hand...

Sorry, If I repost something, I haven't read every single page, but I've got so many good albums from this thread and I want to give back:
White Noise - An Electric Storm

I wouldn't exactly call this a good album, but I love the story behind how it was made. A bunch of people from the BBC radiophonic workshop (The creators of all the pew pew laser sounds and themes and music to a lot of British Si-fis from the 60's and 70's) snuck into the BBC at night to do recordings. some things on this album can only be discrbed fucking weird, ranging from funny sound effects to disturbing distorted screaming. A lot of the stuff is hit and miss, but if your interested in the history of electronic music, this is worth a listen. Has a sexual tone to it at times.

Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene & Oxygene 7-13

I love these albums, they show electronic music can have a soul. Oxygene was made in 1976 and sounds very ahead for it's time. It has a ambient sound to it, but not so much it becomes bland background noise.

Oxygene 7-13 was made in 1998 and has a more dance style to it, but still keeping the Oxygene feel. I would recommend it if you find the first one boring, since it much more energetic.

RJD2 - Deadringer

This is DJ music done right. I really like how creative RJD2 got with where he got his samples, old Twilight Zone episodes, Jazz albums, old Moog albums. The Brass for The Horror was taken form the intro to a Scoby Doo show. What I like most is the urban sound it has to it, makes me think about gangs in a city or something similar.

I'm amazed that Matana Roberts' album has gotten a lot of love, it's beautifully avant-garde and very expressive but for it to be popular in this age is quite an achievement :>

very alive and expressive psychedelic pop from Italy, 1974.

Band: The Advaita Concept
Album: Ontology
Year: 2010
Genre: Math/Progressive Metal, Djent
Awesome album. If you like stuff like Periphery and TesseracT, you Will like this! A little bonus for the people who like Half-Life 2 in the second track, too. And it's free to download at their Bandcamp page!

Excellent Melancholy poetry/spoken word with electronic beats and stuff, people compare him to roots manuva but I think its the sound of his voice more than the music itself.
Polygon Window - Surfing on Sine Waves

Excellent acid techno/idm album to add to anyone's collection. Very calming and intuitive.
7/10
xiu xiu - fabulous muscles
aight so imagine this
what if peaches hated herself a whole lot and was fucking depressing as hell
also what if she was actually a dude and also the frontman for an art rock band whos members and sound never really stay the same for long
thats basically xiu xiu

fabulous muscles is probably one of xiu xiu's more accessible albums, but it still has a lot of variety and is very much representative of their sound
also quick tip of warning this music is depressing as hell so dont listen to to much of it
im also just gonna say trigger warning cause its got lots of stuff about self depreciation and violence and shit and some people arent down with that and thats ok!!
harsher

softer

prefuse 73 - interregnums
alright maybe this is cheating because its actually a bonus disc but honestly this is 5 times better than the main disc (preparations)
prefuse 73 usually does a lot of production for rap and stuff like that but his solo stuff is pretty fucking golden, this album being a shining example

this is some orchestral ambient bullshit or something, fuck if i know it just sounds really fucking great and its amazing for rainy days and shit when you want to get poetic you know
my favorite track off the album isnt on youtube or anything so just find it n download it n listen to "let it ring ensembles"
oh man xiu xiu. hard to listen to them because I'd rather not make my self super depressed on the spot most times but I love them

Super cool, Melodicdeathmetalcoreshit.
No really though, Amazing Melo Death.
Kalmah - For The Waltz
Somebody please recommend me a The Who album, I have "The Who Sell Out", but I'm not very keen on it, I don't want to give up.

After School Special by A-1

This man takes the themes from 90's shows and raps over them. And it's excellent.

Fred Eaglesmith - Lipstick, Lies & Gasoline
Fred's 1997 release and the most amazing album he's done, he mixed hard rock with country. One of the most original sounds ever made.
