I know there is plenty of hate regarding the hip hop genre, that is solely because of the mainstream in my opinion.. this album is a kind of abstract style of hip-hop....and it is absolutely fantastic. I love it, I love how the tracks are short but each give a different sense of emotion each time around... its a journey through madvillain.. its a gem
Meshuggah Nothing. Cause it's spectacular, muf said.
I think that's like mixing ice cream with tomato sauce Just sayin'
Not really. Roni Size & Reprazent's "New Forms" album mixes the two quite well also.
Squarepusher is fucking crazy After by Ihsahn This is a strange beast, it has many of the hallmarks of Ihsahn's Emperor era writing style, but pushed into the genre of progressive metal. Think something along the lines of Prometheus era Emperor with less pomposity, then throw in a saxophone and some 8 string guitars. My top album of this year so far. It's amazing
Damnation - Opeth
Oh my god yes. This album is absolutely amazing. Also, John Prine Live - John Prine I doubt most of you have heard of this fellow John Prine, but this motherfucker is the shit. A live compilation of what I believe to be his finest songs. Whether you're a fan of country, blues, or folk, you'll find this album enjoyable, I can almost guarantee. The downside is, John Prine faded out of the limelight before the Internet became a popular showplace of music. You won't find many of his original songs anywhere on the net, trust me, I've scoured everywhere for them. You're gonna have to buy it. The album does not disappoint though.
Gonna go ahead and recommend Summerteeth by Wilco. Why? It's a very dark album, accompanied by upbeat music and some of the best lyrics of Wilco's career. It has a 60's pop sound, with a little twang of country, and a whole lotta rock and roll. If you like albums like Blood On The Tracks, Exile On Main Street, Tonight's the Night, and Pet Sounds you'll most likely love this album.
Ima gonna go and recommend three albums from three different Genres, cause I can. Blink 182 - Enema of the State Because this is what you can do with four chords and teenage angst. Anthem, Aliens Exist and What's my Age Again? are my favorites from this Album. Amputechture - The Mars Volta Crazy, Psychedelic nonsense that sounds like pure awesome. Check out Bay of the Baphomets. Script for a Jester's Tear - Marillion "he knows... you know!" Fucking rad album.
Bal Sagoth - The Power Cosmic Pretty much the most awesome album ever. Just accept it.
the most awesome album ever. Just accept it.
hmm.. its a bit overdone, I would've preferred one of the older iron maiden covers if that style is what you would say is "awesome"
Skinny Puppy - Last Rights Industrial/experimental. A very underappreciated album, it's got a few classic tracks. As with every other SP album, it's not for everybody.
The maker of this thread is a music smart man,I like almost every album he has posted, Bob Dylan, best. Yeah. Shinjuku 03.15.70 by Kaoru Abe Its an amazing jazz album by a relatively unknown japanese jazz musician from the late 60s early 70s named Kaoru Abe. Its a live recording and is a very rare album to come across since it was never actually for sale, only bootleg copies exist.
One of the earliest recordings of the late Japanese avant-garde saxophonist's work finds him in a rare trio setting. The majority of his most notable recorded work is solo, as he was a player possessed by such a unique musical language as to struggle within a collaborative context, his playing often overpowering his partner's to the point of saturation. This trio recording is one his more classic free jazz sessions -- in the realm of an Ornette Coleman or Steve Lacy trio from the period. An unhinged piano and drums backing provide enough energy sparks to set his distinctively abstract runs into abrasive screaming tones on a par with Albert Ayler at his most lyrical. Certainly an interesting recording of Japanese avant-garde jazz; however, this recording is not the place to start to hear the phenomenally inventive playing of Kaoru Abe. His Solo 1972 recording is where his fire really started to burn -- culminating in his masterpiece Mort À Credit, which exhibits him at his best. ~ Skip Jansen, All Music Guide
Gojira: The Way Of All Flesh. Spectacular progressive death metal album, just like all of Gojiras stuff, and in my eyes matching or superior to From Mars To Sirius. And they have a song about the Great Pacific garbage patch. Toxic Garbage Island Esoteric Surgery
In my opinion From Mars To Sirius is way better.
Envy - A Dead Sinking Story Japanese post-rock/screamo. A superb album in every single way, the song construction, the instrumentalism, the vocals, the lyrics, the atmosphere, it's just an amazing album from start to finish.
I just can't enjoy other music that is in a different language.
I just can't enjoy other music that is in a different language.
Italian music is often quite nice.
The Devin Townsend Project - Addicted [img_thumb]http://dtkevin.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/addicted.jpg[/img_thumb] The second album of The Devin Townsend Project. It's an awesome, pop-y sounding kind of metal. You could dance to this stuff. Anneke van Giersbergen provides most of the vocals for this album. The whole thing is about Townsend's former addictions and getting over them. Mastodon - Crack The Skye [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4a/Cracktheskye.jpg[/img_thumb] This is one of my top three albums of all time. It's a desert island album. I listen to this in full once a week, and previously listened to it every day in full for six months. This is Mastodon's best album, straight up. It's about a paraplegic who is physically confined in his home, but can travel out of his body. He ends up getting too close to the sun and burns his "link" to his body and floats into a wormhole, ending up in hell. A Russian cult led by Rasputin gets a vision of his lost spirit and decided to help him. It's crazy awesome. I love every song on this album. It is absolute perfection. DJ Shadow - Endtroducing..... [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c1/Endtroducingcover.jpg[/img_thumb] This is another desert island album. I found DJ Shadow in a video on YouTube about EVE Online, but I stopped giving a damn about anything the video was actually about and kept listening to the music of it. While the song I really liked was not on this album, this is the album that got me into "pure" hip-hop. Nothing but DJ turn tables and samples from music I've never heard of. I was amazing to find out nothing on the album was recorded or made by Shadow; it was all samples from other music. There is just something really soulful about every song and it chills me to my core every time I listen to the whole album. I'll type up some more later.
Slint - Spiderland One of the first post-rock albums. A flawless record, nothing more needs to be said.
Probably my favourite Opeth album, for me, there isn't a single bad song. The Blackwater Park song itself (10 minutes long) has so many of those good riffs that play in your head hours after hearing the song

It's a classic hip-hop album studded with diamond and gilded with pure gold. Amazing, it's a great entrance album into the hip-hop genre.
