What do you get if you make death metal a couple of times heavier, slower and more depressing?
You get Death/Doom.
And if you pull that to eleven?
Ladies, Gentlemen and Smizmars: I give you... Funeral Doom. Quite possibly the most depressing genre of music ever.

For some great, but unusual song story-telling definitely check this out by alt-country artist Neko Case. She works in shapshots showing hazy details of rivalries (Margaret Vs. Pauline), backstabbing lovers (Lion's Jaws), and the people's reaction, and the lack of, to a tragedy (Star Witness). Neko Case has a beautiful soaring voice and the atmosphere the instruments create provide a perfect atmosphere for Case's wonderfully sung stories.

One of the most underrated bands of the 70's. These guys were as good as or even better than black sabbath, deep purple, led zeppelin and they came out around the same time when metal was blossoming. This album is one of the best hidden gems of the 70's. If you love old school hard rock or metal you will shit your pants if you never heard of this.

The vocalist gives me hope for other Japanese bands with English lyrics. It doesn't include shoddy pronounciation!

Fucking awesome crazy spacey bassy snare drumy ballady. I don't even fucking know, but this shit is awesome as fuck and it's FREE. It may be weird (or maybe not) but some of the songs remind me of an electronic shoegaze album. Download it even if you're the slightest bit curious. I don't know much about the artist but he was in some band called Mellowdrone in LA which was I guess popular or something.

Jane Doe by Converge. I've been listening to a ton of them lately, and Jane Doe is far and away their best work. The music is sheer, balls-to-the-wall chaos at some points, only to switch to slow, sludgy, almost dirge-like at others. Also, Jacob Bannon's vocals are some of the most beautifully abrasive I've ever heard. It's one of my very few "desert island" albums.

I fully understand; it took a while for me to "get" them. They're certainly one of those bands where some people dislike them for certain reasons, yet that's why some fans love them (like you said, the vocals, "wall of sound", etc. are why I love them). If you ever try to listen to them again though, "Axe to Fall" is much more melodic (or as melodic as a band like Converge can get, I suppose); it was what finally tipped me over the edge. Otherwise, to each his own; there's certainly no harm in not liking a band.

I love pretty much everything except the vocals, I mean the instrumentation is beautiful, the song writing is clearly good, and like I said the lyrics. They're clearly talented and they will probably click with me some day.

Now the only Hip Oriented Jazz album that I know of made by jazz musicians... is Miles Davis' Doo Bop album. It's good, but feels more like a hip hop band giving Miles a good send off (He died before its release)
This new age of Jazz is something very smooth, it's very clear to see how the times have influenced and inspired jazz artists these days.
With Matana Roberts making sure that the classic Avant-Garde style of jazz lives on, BADBADNOTGOOD makes sure that Jazz can always be contemporary and smooth.

One of my music teachers introduced me to him. I'm in love with his voice, and it just so happens that the first song I heard by him was "Whiskey Lullaby" and it just broke my heart -as my grandmother died because she were an alcoholic.
I can't help but have an attachment.

The Caretaker - An Empty Bliss Beyond This World
It's haunting ballroom sounds just like in The Shining, but as an album. Absolutely breathtaking experience.
It's not quite "noise" music or jazz... but it's pretty much an artwork that people should get.
Besides, he made 78rpm records into an artful experience.

awesome electronic/psychedelic/progressive rock with heavy use of samples from the late 60s, very underrated and it deserves much more recognition than it got IMHO, it's a shame their later albums kind of suck

Le volume du vent by Karkwa.
This is an amazing canadian french rock album, the music is haunting and every songs are beautiful in their own ways.
I'd say, if you're even slightly interested in french rock, this is an album to listen to.
