Massively overlooked. It is a bluesy, soulful, brilliantly intricate album that is pretty much a classic in 80s albums. Grab it and just lay back, it's unbelievably consistent and smooth.
I must acquire some progressive metal/rock. If possible, please, not too heavy (Devin Townsend -heavy is the max).
I'd have to recommend Stratovarius's Dreamspace album (1994) hard to describe this album other than 15 tracks, 0 filler. The line between prog metal and power metal is very thin, just ask Images and Words. Either way if it's proggy enough or not you'll still like it. It's an amazing record, certainly underlooked. The best thing about it is that it doesn't get old. You don't get bored of listening to the same style because it's not all the same shit. There's a good variety of prog, power, ballads and even experimental stuff. And on my first listen I was waiting for a really bad song to pop up and it never happened. Please aquire this and listen if you haven't Everyone needs to listen to this album at least once.

Why quote it and point it out then?
oh sorry. anyway: Violent Femmes' s/t debut album. It's an album well ahead of the game It's clear to see how times have allowed this style to evolve, but they're the ONLY band to adapt it so early. I can't say how or why, but it's a damn good album.
Twin Sister - In Heaven I'm not really good at describing music, but this album is amazing. Andrea Estella has an odd singing voice at times and that might turn some people off.
Holy shit! It's Kraftwerk!
Azalia Snail - Snailbait fucking beautiful. a bit confusing the first time I listened but this is dreamy folky lofi psychedelic (those are always good adjectives right?) bliss. I'm just listening to this in my room late one night and it's perfect. Really free flowing and unconventional. somehow this chick has like <2000 listeners on Last.fm and that needs to change quickly!
M83 Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. [t]http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd517/Banana_Bandit/HurryUpWereDreaming.jpg[/t] Anthony Gonzalez doesn't just record a record of related songs. He brings you into the world of his dreams and you feel like you are experiencing the innocence of childhood again when you could just dream and imagine whatever you wanted and go into your own worlds. He put a lot of work into using different instruments, vocals and collaborations to make this album represent the uniqueness and magic that we see in our dreams. Now matter what kind of genre you like, I recommend that you turn off the lights, lay down in a comfortable spot and play this on speakers around you to feel like you are inside of the dream world that this album creates. Drugs are optional but they will strongly enhance the experience.
that is absolutely superb. clearly taking inspiration from the 80s. I love these "big" sounds... it makes you feel floaty.
Drink the Sea by The Glitch Mob Think of this as the blend of Ronald Jenkees and Daft Punk in one harmonious balls to the walls mix of amazing drums. Mixed along side synths playing their melodies they use real drums to form the beats that give this naturalistic futuristic mix that just seems fitting to some sort of Cyber Punk videogame or movie. Its a 10 track album and I compiled them all into a youtube playlist for those that are interested. Now I know a lot of people might wrinkle their nose the comparison up above but you must know I have a very...small palette of artists who actually make music to make music. Most of it is videogame soundtracks. This definitely caught me off guard on Pandora but I'm loving it so far. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB12DD5F6A86650A3

I definitely see what you mean by big sounds, theres just so much going on in it.
Probably suggested already but I picked this up back in 2006 and it's one of my favourite albums, one of the best from the chili peppers:

The vocals are spot on classic. Fair enough it will be labelled "dream pop" when I don't quite think it is, but damn good for a new album.

Lo-Fi, Dream Pop kind of album. I love it because his voice is kind of different than so much else, and every song is building so much suspense.
How many albums will be labelled Dream Pop this year... In all honesty I've only heard two albums which are genuinely worthy of that title. Candy Claws' In The Dream of Sea Life and Flaming Lips' Soft Bulletin
Hmm.. What else would you call it?
link me a song. [editline]4th November 2011[/editline] nevermind, I've listened to Posters. It's not quite "dream pop" for me. More indie or ambient pop.
I'm probably incredibly late with this one but I fucking love these guys, and at some point I will actually get round to getting the rest of their stuff, also I suck at describing bands and their sound so other than instrumental post rock I can't actually give an accurate description, but suffice it so say, they are a genuinely brilliant band who know exactly what they're doing. It's hard to find bands who focus on melodies a lot.
Ah I think I get it now, it has to be more floating and washed out, right?
spot on, but don't take my word for it, it's just my thoughts. :v:
dream pop:
no way. Pretty much all 80s pop had the atmospheric production.
Slowdive is dreampop. Y'know when you're having a dream then you hear a beeping noise in your dream then it turns out to be your alarm clock. This is like that except with pop music.
Yeah, I've heard Galaxie 500. Good album.
