Show me the driest sounding 80s pop song.

In '87, Huey released this, Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to Be Square," a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.
everyone's seen that movie already
damn.

I can think of plenty that don't have the haziness of the Cocteau Twins. Michael Jackson, Human League, Blondie, The Pretenders, Duran Duran, Devo, Bruce Springsteen, Prince

? They all have songs that have a distinct 80s production to their songs.
Obviously not as "big" sounding as Cocteau Twins. But still.
They're all 80's but not dream pop like the Cocteau Twins with all the fuzz and hazy synths. Those artists don't have a lot of that.
most 80's music as far as i know was relatively low on haziness.
in fact a lot of 80's post-punk and new wave was clean and sharp. talking heads best example.

This is kind of big sounding, but it's very dark compared to Cocteau Twins.

cocteau twins did have a bit of that dry synthetic 80s sound but on top of that there was a very hazy dreamy aesthetic, pretty distinct from the typical 80s stuff dispite te other similarities.
album rec coming through look out

Янка Дягилева (Yanka Dyagileva) - Ангедония (Anhedonia)
speaking of 80s production, the sound on this record is the other far end of 80s sounds. too bitter and frigid to be dreamy and too rough and lo fi to sound like typical pop. awesome russian singer songwriter with bleak (oddly low mixed) post punk-meets-folk instrumentals. lots of people compare her to Patti Smith but I would think of Nico quicker. The record was released during what I understand was a pretty turbulent time in the soviet union, and she tragically drowned soon after the album came out. Great listening during these winter months. (although sipping tea and listening to cocteau twins while in a blanket is a lot more pleasant)

"Argus is the third album by the rock band Wishbone Ash. It is the most popular Wishbone Ash album and widely considered their greatest by fans and reviewers. It was named "Album of the Year" in the 1972 year-end issue of Sounds magazine. The album features a blend of progressive rock, folk, and hard rock, and is considered a landmark album in the progression of twin-lead guitar harmonization later adopted by bands such as Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden. The sound engineer on Argus was Martin Birch, who also worked with Deep Purple, later with Iron Maiden and other hard rock/heavy metal bands.[3]. The bulk of the melodies and lyrics were provided by bassist/lead vocalist Martin Turner, although all members contributed to the song arrangements." - Wiki
I think there are few rock fans in Great Britain who don't know or appreciate this album.
In my opinion, this is a work of art from the 70s. Way ahead of it's time, Argus brings us a kind of rock that could easily be a successful album today. It's not very hard, not very heavy. It's smooth yet full of good energy and good vibrations that goes from quiet and calm songs with beautiful lyrics to pure hard rock with astonishing solos.
Songs like:
"The King Will Come" – 7:06 (Lead vocals - Martin Turner, Andy Powell)
"Leaf and Stream" – 3:55 (Lead vocals - Martin Turner)
"Warrior" – 5:53 (Lead vocals - Martin Turner, Andy Powell)
"Throw Down the Sword" – 5:55 (Lead vocals - Martin Turner, Andy Powell)
and the Bonus Track:
"No Easy Road" - 3:36
Are the main reason of the magic in the midst of this great album.
In 2007 they did a Deluxe Edition of this album featuring:
Disc One
"Time Was"
"Sometime World"
"Blowin' Free"
"The King Will Come"
"Leaf and Stream"
"Warrior"
"Throw Down the Sword"
"No Easy Road"
"The Pilgrim" (live in Memphis 1972)
"Phoenix" (live in Memphis 1972)
Disc Two
"Time Was" (BBC in concert session 1972)
"Blowin' Free" (BBC in concert session 1972)
"Warrior" (BBC in concert session 1972)

"King Will Come" (BBC in concert session 1972)

Thanks.
I actually go to Last FM a lot, yet I never had the time to make an account. Maybe I'll do it today!
I really really really really need to find some music similar to this:

I think Miles Davis and John Coltrane are the given when it comes to any type of Jazz.
But the almighty Jaga Jazzist must be heard

Already have Miles Davis and Mr. Coltrane, but I want that sort of 40's piano, cool, calm sounding type of music, sort of like that music I showed you. Davis can be a bit too freewheeling and frenetic, but Jaga Jazzist sounds kind of fine but still not what I want

ahh... some real lounge 40s style eh?
I'm lacking in that but I can look.

Bill Evans wasn't 40s but I get it.

Seriously, why don't I have more of this.
Chet Baker is nice. You should dig into Bill Evans and Ahmad Jamal (one huge inspiration to Miles Davis) too.

I have Fats Waller on vinyl and when I put that on.. it really felt like I was in another time.
I'm getting some Louis Armstrong too.
Nice. Getting Fats Waller too.
I would really like to find some of the old 78s but I haven't got a good enough system to play it.
Have you listened to The Caretaker?

Band: Breach The Void
Album: The Monochromatic Era
Genre: Cyber Metal
Year: 2010
Once again proving two things in my opinion: That Cyber Metal is awesome, and that the tens as a decade are looking promising.
