that album was great, the first time i've heard requiem i was pretty much blown away.
That sounds well interesting, will check it out at some point.

Ruined Emo by Manbearpig
Genre: emo, post-hardcore, melodic hardcore (80s-90s style none of this mallcore stuff)
like 8.5/10 or something shit owns
These guys are underrated as fuck. It's only a 15 minute EP, but it's full of power, energy, catchiness and is incredibly honest. Nothing particularly complex in it musically, but it's really really good and has fuckin tons of replayability. Doesn't get old.
Also it's free and can be downloaded here
no regrets will be had in downloading this.
It's really difficult to pick a favourite track since each track has something great about it, and every time I hear a track I'm like "yeah this is my favourite" but then another comes on and I'm like "no this is" and I still don't know. So this is playing just now so have it haha

Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music I
Genre: Post-Rock, Breakcore, Glitch
9.5/10
I'm not kidding when i'm going to say this is one of the most confusing, bipolar, dynamic, floral, and electronically-orchestrated albums i've ever heard. anyone who is a fan of any of the above genres should give this a listen. It's album cover is a good representation of the music itself, too...
This album is great, still haven't heard anything quite like it.

Like Doom Metal? Like Black Metal? Like lyrics in other languages than english?
If you answered 'Yes' on those questions, then this album is for you!

Comfort Eagle by Cake
Genre: Alternative Rock
8/10 I absolutely love Cake
Not sure how to really explain it. Cake's songs are pretty smooth (if that's even a way to describe it) and catchy.
Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds
Genre: Progressive Rock
Pros:
-True to the original story by H.G. Wells, unlike every other adaption of the story
-The narration by Charles Burton is fantastic, his voice fits the character (a learned middle class journalist who lives near where the invasion starts) to a tee
-The instrumentation in the songs is great and the musical Motifs are memorable
-The sound effects are great
-The album is filled with lots of synth and guitar, which both hold an equal musical role as the orchestra
-The vocals are fantastic (except for "The Artilleryman's Dream, but I think it was meant to be slightly bad.)
-Justin Hayward does guitar and vocals on some of the songs
Cons:
-The actual songs are fairly repetitive (but the sound effects and narration break up the repetition nicely)
-Justin Hayward's beautiful guitar solos get slightly drowned out by the other instruments, which is a shame
-In my opinion I thought there was wasted potential for more narrative (but luckily enough this is one of the things Jeff Wayne will be facing in his remake of the album)
-In my opinion the album could have ended slightly better then it did musically
-The vocals in "The Artilleryman's Dream"
My Score: 9/10, almost a perfect album but some small issues bring it down

yeah I discovered them through him haha :P
listened to the new Mastodon. Enjoyed it a lot.
It's a lot less precise, more raw and sludgy this time around. Also I think it's less "prog" than before, I think I'll listen to this a few more times. :>

Imo Crack the Skye is their only prog album.
nah, leviathan was somewhat prog too.
Green Day - International Superhits
Remind them children about way back when Green Day songs weren't about cutting yourself and bashing the government and religion.
Also any Kitsune2, because chiptune as a genre doesn't recieve enough attention

I still can't think of it as Prog Rock.
Anyways, the only bad side for me is that I can't remember anything about the second half.

Wikipedia says it's prog rock, I'm not sure what to call it so I agreed with wikipedia
if War of the Worlds is prog rock, the first prog album I listened to was War of the Worlds
I would like NOT to consider it prog rock for this reason
Well, by definition, it takes rock and progresses it into another realm that mixes storytelling, thematics and what not. So i think it's safe to say it's pretty progressive.
Prog Rock Opera?

Genre: Post-Rock
I love this album. It's three songs long, all of perfect buildup and intensity. If I'm not paying attention I can lose where track two ends and track three begins and hearing them blend almost seamlessly is so fun.
Download it for free off their Bandcamp: http://damascusnj.bandcamp.com/
Prog Rock Opera?
Well, I dunno if it's prog. Maybe it's just rock opera.

well yeah the music itself is progressive. It changes in direction all the time, not your standard rock opera imo.

The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
Pretty much an essential classic. But if you're looking for a hard-hitting, powerful, well-written album. This is what you're after.

that's a contradiction because essentials cannot be classics and classics sure as hell can't be essential.

okay, just did...... wow.
Sixto Rodriguez - Cold Fact
Before I get into the review, I just want to say that Rodriguez is a very underrated and unknown musician. The son of an immigrant that grew up in the slums, most of his music is him talking about living in slums and his hatred for the government, so if you find political songs irritating, this guy isn't for you.
Released:
March 1970
Genre:
Rock, but with lots of acoustic work
Pros:
-The guitar work is simple but good
-Rodriguez's vocals are superb
-The album is well mastered
-His lyrics are great for what they are
-The song "Sugar Man", seriously, it is such a chill yet melancholy song
Cons:
-Some of the more "rock" songs aren't as good as the quieter acoustic songs
-Rodriguez slurs his voice unnecessarily every now and again
-A couple of songs are strangely happy considering the depressing themes, which is a good and bad thing.
My Score: 8/10, Musically wise it is a very solid album, with the obvious standouts (in my opinion) being Sugar Man and Crucify your mind.

Lightning Bolt - Lightning Blt
Jesus Christ, such emotion went in to this album it's insane. It's sporadic and noisy with such limited structure but it hold in and keeps you thrust in to the music. Very noisy and loud. Apparently, they threw out the studio version and just put the live versions of the tracks on in lo-fi. 30 minute jam session of pure ecstasy. Just overall fantastic album.

Real Estate - Days (2011)
Holy shit, this is pretty much the most chilled album I have heard in a very long time. This is a breezy, lo-fi indie rock album (with dream pop and surf-rock influences) that is so fucking relaxed, it just makes me want to lie down and watch clouds for the rest of my life. This is a good thing.
Days doesn't really reinvent or innovate any genres, but brings indie rock down to the point of total peace and relaxation, so that it becomes something wonderfully unconcerned and content. I love this.

Band: Svart
Album: Vanära, Vanmakt och Avsmak
Genre: Depressive/Suicidal Black Metal
Year: 2009
Svart (Swedish for "Black") is the solo project of Livsnekad guitarist and Shining bassist Draug. And what a project it is! I could recommend the entire discography, but this isn't "Recommend an Discography", so I'll give you the best album instead.

This dark track with its depressive lyrics is my favourite. The name, Medmänsklighet, means Compassion...

Sheena Ringo - Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana
Now it's J-Pop, but like nothing you've heard before. This girl has some pretty inspiring compositions, her latest work is jazz oriented and perhaps more explosive, but this is some of the smoothest, artsy pop sounds I've heard from Japan.

Band: Eluveitie
Album: Helvetios
Genre: Celtic Metal/Melodic Death Metal
Year: 2012
What to say? It's about the Gallic wars. It contains lyrics in both english and the extinct language Helvetian Gaulish. It contains loads of instruments. It's a history lesson disguised as a metal album. It's completely awesome. It's Eluveitie!
