I've listened to 4 of the totem pole's album suggestions, all are supreme.

It was later reworked in 2003. The Dragon Experience is an amazing experimental electronic experience. It can be weird at times. Each song flows into each other very nicely. The guy on the album cover is the Nirvana (Nevermind) baby as a teen. The Dragon Experience is best experienced from start to finish.

This isn't my first Boris album, I first heard Akuma No Uta and fell in love with it and then decided to do this. Absolutego was something else to me. I'm not someone who listens to a lot of metal or anything, but I'm probably most familiar with Drone from it's various incorporation or spins in other music I like. Listening to Absolutego wasn't terrifying or anything like that; it was peaceful. It gave me a similar kind of concentration I would get if I were to take Adderall. For three quarters of the album it had surprising variation and was easily listenable. Over an hour in length, Absolutego is quite the journey, and it's one I'd suggest, especially when studying! Favorite tracks: Absolutego Rating: 4.5/5 [release] Deafheaven - Roads to Judah (2011) Genre: Post-Rock, Metal, Shoegaze I discovered this pretty late, but I'm so glad I did. The best way I can think to describe this is by calling it the Deathconsciousness of Metal. It's melancholy, it's heavy and it's beautiful. The vocals are screaming, but they're used effectively to weave this amazing wall of sound that paints a painful image of great sadness. The lyrics on this are also amazing. Very poetic and very impacting. If you're at all into albums with great emotion, or albums that paint amazing imagery, a fan of Have A Nice Life or just someone looking for something different and unique, listen to this. Rating: 5/5 Favorite track: [/release]
The Field - From Here We Go Sublime (2007) I call it minimal ambient enlightenment techno. The tracks this guy produces are mind numbing and relaxing, but it's hard not to move to it. They're atmospheric and spacey, while at the same time flat and upfront.
its the woods by sleater kinney and you just should get it because I like it and its good
Chuck by Sum 41. Because it was their last good album. They then progressed into a more bitchy pop-rock style and it makes me sad. Underclass hero was ok I guess but the new album is terrible.

Pretty good experimental album right here. It was made in the early 70s, yet it doesn't sound like it was made in the 70's. Lot's of strange stuff going on here that I simply cannot explain but it's definitely worth a listen if your interested in this experimental stuff. The only issue I have with it is it gets a little tedious mid way with the piano. Other than that it kept my interest till the end and I thought it was pretty funny in a "lolwhatthehell" kind of way.
Monster Cat - Mannequins This EP was advertised on the pirate bay frontpage recently and I decided to give it a go. Christ. It's great. its really esoteric and experimental but still very accessible, it reminds me of the far reaches of maybe radiohead crossed with Lizard era king crimson and Steve Wilson plunged through an alt rock vortex full of great harmonies folkiness and a great pop sensibility. This may be one of the solid newly released albums I've heard in quite a while. Give it a listen for sure as its free and it would be worth it.
Front 242 - Front by Front (1988) Quite an enjoyable album. Best comparison I can give is 80s synthpop with heavy elements of industrial. If you like industrial music, give this album a listen.
I reckon my next delve into the 80s will be industrial music. Will keep an eye out for that one.
I reckon my next delve into the 80s will be industrial music. Will keep an eye out for that one.
80s industrial, eh? Give a listen to Einsturzende Neubauten, Coil, Foetus and Big Black(these guys are noise rock but they've got a drum machine and they rule so hey).
80s industrial, eh? Give a listen to Einsturzende Neubauten).
Right on the money, I was recommended that a while back.
Band: The Fall Of Every Season Album: From Below Genre: Atmospheric Death/Doom Metal Year: 2007
"From Below" is a concept album about a family that knows nothing but agony and death. The songs tell the chronological story of an imprisoned son of that family and his release.
I simply must post this. These five songs make up what is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful Doom Metal albums of all time.
Minus The Bear - Planet Of Ice (Alternative Rock, Progressive Rock, Art Rock, Electronic Rock) This is... practically one of my favorite albums ever. It's funny too, because the guy that got me into music a long time ago posted a list of bands that he liked and I just dug through that list and fished out whatever I liked enough... Turns out, every single band on it was pretty great to me to any extent, even if it took me 4 or so tries to get into them over whatever-course-of-time it took. This band was one on the list. Unlike everything else on it, this band took me nearly 3 years to get into for some reason, and now they just exploded to me. I had some sort-of passionate hate-fire for them before I did because It always sounded boring to me... and it pretty much just changed for me as of April 3rd. Enough background, now let's get onto the actual album itself, it's sound, it's lyrical content, and pretentious boast-lies that mindlessly increase their credibility in other eyes: This album is also one of those releases that sound like it's album art. it's cold, and it's sound is empty in a good way... Well, at some points -- A way that seems almost crystallized (Lotus' multi-minute ice-cave texture), or lab-like. (Dr. L'Ling's crescendoic-decrescendoic loop electronics) while maintaining a sometimes friendly, optimistic, or even mildly radio-accessible sound at the same time... It's really welcoming (outside of Dr L'Ling, which is the dark track). It's also a loose concept album. Like Highly Refined Pirates, it includes various themes relating to the actual title and this time around, the art itself. there's also, of course, pseudo-romantic themes incorporated in the same fashion expressed in their debut. It really gives off that kinda feel to me in a way that I can't express with words so you'll just have to see if you get that same vibe as I do. The band as a whole have a lot of merit in their sound... they've achieved something unique with this album that sticks out from the cooperative Menos El Oso and comical Highly Refined Pirates in a more serious, operatic, and sometimes darker tone. it's track format is pretty basic aside from the 8-and-a-half-minute political-themed monster Lotus. It's a bombastic album that remains uniform or constant in style while experimenting with other structures or ideas every track. Samples: Double Vision Quest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBy8Ajo7dlY Dr. L'Ling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo8mU8wWdSA Knights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKKfnyvTKoA additionally have their best song even if it's on another album by them simply because it's fucking awesome: Spritz!!! Spritz!!!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYHAil9hxcI
I reckon my next delve into the 80s will be industrial music. Will keep an eye out for that one.
Skinny Puppy, nothing else.

(are you thisispain?) listen to Meredith Monk. Basically she's a part of the avant garde performance art scene, and one of the most advanced explorers of the possibilities of the human voice... terrific. annnd much easier and album to digest than Dolmen Music I think.
hey, do you think Bjork is like totally outlandish and stuff but really awesome? (are you thisispain?) listen to Meredith Monk.
well... okay.
Fairly late in the game with this album. But it's pretty much the album where I feel at home, this and Basement Tapes are in the same league. Albeit the guitar work here... never to be heard anywhere else. Clapton and Allman? Just cool. Although Allman clearly wins the game, it's a fair show of genius. One thing that can be said, it's filled with filler just like Basement Tapes but that's one of the best things about both albums, they just don't need to stop. :)

Santa María de Iquique, by Quilapayún If there's any fluent Spanish speaker on this forum then you should really listen to it. It's a beautifully crafted Cantata about this event. It has received critical acclaim, it is considered one of the best Chilean albums, and it makes me sad that I don't speak Spanish fluently enough to keep up with the narrator and the lyrics. Even if you don't speak Spanish, it's really good music. A mix of folk and classical. It's really obvious that it has a very heavy focus on the narrative, since some tracks (named Relato) are just a narrator telling the story of Iquique in a really dramatic way, very well done. But it's a good listen regardless. The closing song is really good, passionate and with harmonies that make me happy to spend all this time listening to music.
Siamese Dream if it hasn't been posted already
Millennium by Front Line Assembly Millennium is a great industrial metal album. It has a balance of neat and frantic synths, great samples, and mechanical guitars. Devin Townsend did the guitars on some of the tracks.
Industrial Metal? Ooh, I'll look this up. It better not be that shitty industrial though, I'm looking for some Nine Inch Nails-esq stuff. [editline]24th April 2012[/editline] Listening now... Oh god, it is like Nine Inch Nails. Thank you for posting this.
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine (old, I know) If you've never listened to this album, you really ought to. It's not only a great example of how music can be a tool for social reform, but it's pretty awesome to listen to.

Jack White - Blunderbuss Because I haven't seen it being discussed anywhere on FP and it is an incredible album. In my opinion, at least.

A very nice Primus comeback. I cannot single out a song to say it's my favorite, every song is great. However, I'd have to say my top 3 are Last Salmon Man, Jilly's on Smack, and Lee Van Cleef. Must have for any fan of thrash or metal in general. One of my top albums of 2011 along with Green Naugahyde and The Hunter. Very good from beginning to end.
