One of the most unique sounds that I've found this year. Like ambient meets heavy nu metal.

Some of SMD's best work to date. If you're into techno or electronic music in general, give it a listen.

Bad Rabbits - Stick Up Kids (2009)
I stumbled upon these guys by chance at last years Warped Tour. Their kind of funk/pop, but I'm not sure. Anyway this is a great starting point for their music, every track is enjoyable and brings something new to the table. Definitely recommend for a Funk, Pop or Hip-Hop listener.
i'm most likely extremely late but then again its an old album so whatever

mewithoutYou - Ten Stories (2012)
Genre: Post-Hardcore and Folk-Rock
I've had this since Monday and I have yet to stop listening to it. I came in expecting a
folky version of La Dispute just from a description I had heard. What I found were amazing l
yrics akin to the stories you'd find in a book, really emotional and catchy post-hardcore
songs fused with folk-rock and some very thought provoking sentiments. This reminds me a
hell of a lot like In the Aeroplane Over the Sea in theme, aesthetic and message. This is
absolutely one of my albums of the year if not my album of the year (at least, so far.) and I'd
recommend it to anyone who is a fan of creative lyricism, turn of the century themes, existentialism
as well as folk and post-hardcore.
Rating: 5/5
Favorite Tracks:
Cardiff Giant

Fox's Dream of the Log Flume

and if you're genuinely interested, PM me. I have a few DL codes for an mp3 version of it.
D.R.U.G.S by destroy rebuild until god shows is a really good album and worth a listen. I guess I can't put it into just one genre because its a bit of a mixture of heavier to a softer rock. My swagger has a first name is probably one of my favourites from the album. I'd rate a 9/10. Shame they broke up just recently.

Psych folk/ambient. Very beautiful and haunting. Tara's (singer/project lead) voice fits the music like a glove.

I kid you not, these are some truly great, under-appreciated psych rock albums from the 60s.
Believe me, it's another one of those cases where their pop era overshadows their other work.

Daydream nation is a true classic album
why
I'm not usually one to recommend music to people because of my odd tastes, but

This is incredibly fun to listen to, and the album download includes a list of all songs used which actually introduced me to a bunch of really good artists. I know it's not some big famous band album like half the ones recommended here but what's the fun in pointing those out?
Warning: Can be a tad noisy and a song includes Cotton Eye Joe. Still a great EP imo.
Going to have to make a thread about stuff you won't listen because of the cover...
I'll condone it.

If you like prog, especially 70's prog and you haven't heard this album. DO SO NOW. To me the most surprising thing about this band is that they are from America, its hard to find a extremely talented American prog band during the 70s. These guys are pretty awesome and extremely underrated.
there's that album by Gonjasufi what's called sufi and a killer
yeah
you should probably listen to it maybe if you want it's not bad I guess

Antisleep Vol. I, by Blue Stahli
18 fast-paced, active songs (none of them over 3 minutes long) that come flying out with bunch of different influences. Probably won't be winning any awards for Best Techno Album, but it's a fun ride.

One of the best pieces of MPB style music I've listened to. The melodies on the first two songs are especially powerful, thanks to a skilled band and Veloso's wonderful voice. Both tracks instantly get drilled into your head. The longer songs on the album take their time to absorb you but when they get going they're blissful.
I've listened to this. I have to say, it's pretty damn good.
However, my introduction was the instinct of choosing Jorge Ben's Força Bruta and that'll hold a place in my heart as a truly soulful intro to that style of music.
Also Tim Maia is said to be the Marvin Gaye of Brazil, so I obviously knew what that meant. :v:

Band: October Falls
Album: Marras
Genre: Folk/Ambient
Year: 2005
I originally found this band while looking for new Pagan/Black metal bands (that weren't NSBM) to listen to. After listening to the later BM-albums I decided to try their first full-length where they were less BM and more ambient and folky. This is that album.
And it is wonderful.

screw it, I'm getting that Herr. You've recommended a lot of stuff I've missed. :(
It sounds like dark folk to me, so I recommend this to you:

I noticed no one i've friended on last.fm has heard polvo once except silverhawk (3-6) and my other friend who didn't even hear a full record.
just leaving this here, you know, really cool 90s indie rock and apparently math rock even though the band doesn't really consider themselves it

Woods Of Desolation - Torn Beyond Reason. My favourite album of 2011, and it's an atmospheric black metal album where the instruments all seem to fade into eachother, and the vocals are reverberated and distant. Gives a real sense of claustrophobia. I can't really describe the effect, just listen to the album. If you don't like depressing music, it's not for you.

World's End Girlfriend
Starry Starry Night Soundtrack
2011
I haven't even listened to the album all the way through yet and I think that its incredibly awesome.
Very different from what he usually does, there's no glitchy stuff, musical chaos or sound fuckery here.
There's only a collection of nice, relaxing songs.

Easily one of the best album's i've ever listened to. Perfection at it's core. Steven Seagal, the moist pants maker, not only is a fantastic AAA movie star, but he is also an amazing artist.

something about the subtle sofistication, the brevity, the airiness of this album makes it refreshing like a summer's breeze. sounds like a gay metaphor but thats really how i think about it. also the getz/gilberto album is swag.

devastatingly good music. one of my favourite trane albums. hartmans voice is something else. essential for living.

gas - pop
the music sounds like the cover looks basically. ambient idm but more ambient than idm. colourful textural beauty.

Really nice instrumental album combining a variety of different styles. Hard to describe with one genre but imagine slightly experimental orchestra music

1994! - fckyrhed
Indie emo coming from the same label Snowing is on. Except these guys are a bit less twinkly and a bit less hoarse, they still come close to the snowing sound, while being a tad more noisy. The math-rock influences are still there though. It's like American Football but with distortion. Pretty good, but not exactly a favourite.
