I'll look in the obvious place, but I fear becoming attached to this kind of outsider stuff as I've done in the past.
i was kinda exaggerating the darkness of the album, there's a sense of redemption and spiritual salvation in the songs so it's not totally bleak.
yep, I'm really getting what this guy is about. This is one of the times when the lo-fi aesthetic really is necessary. Reminds me of Charles Manson's Air prison album recording. This is what Black/Doom is supposed to sound like!
Font Line Assembly - Implode This is a very cyberpunk album. Implode has great samples, frantic break beats and juicy electronics.
Midori - Hello Everyone, Nice To Meet You, We Are Midori It's an insane album. If you've never heard it, then you should check it out. This never gets boring
Neglected, they're seen as just that mellow pop group but they can sure harmonize and create a really great atmosphere. They're one of the good'ns of 80s synth pop imo. [editline]20th June 2012[/editline] Daemonia Nymphe - Daemonia Nymphe (Δαιμονια Νυμφη) group specialising in ANCIENT GREEK music, with authentic classical instruments. I wasn't expected such an invigorating euphoric experience with this. Really wonderful harmonies too. [editline]20th June 2012[/editline] Kylie Minogue - Impossible Princess another example of a great but neglected pop record. Really vibrant things going on within this record, it isn't very commercial which is why nobody knows of it. Well worth a listen for pop enthusiasts. [editline]20th June 2012[/editline] Listened to this all the time. I'm not sure if you can call it just straight up "art pop", it's more just trying something completely different with a pop tinge. It's catchy, but there are moments here when you feel immersed in something you didn't expect. She narrates at times and it works ridiculously well alongside the rhythms. Wikipedia suggests that it's avant-garde, but it isn't at all imo. It's a highly listenable and easy to grasp release.
An alternate rock album that I've loved ever since it came out. I don't know why I like it so much but probably because none of it is synthesised and the lead singer has a great voice.

It is superb
Another great instrumental album, this time Jazz. The tone and atmosphere of the songs constantly shifts for a very diverse listening experience. Get it here
I was reminded about this album when I found the title track on my hard drive earlier. This album shows off just how good Hackett was, especially on the title track, where the guitar just flows beautifully in a real dream-like way. It never quite matches up to his work in Genesis, but it's worth listening to if you enjoy Genesis Album art is quite small. It's Steve Hackett - Spectral Mornings
The Young Punx - Mashpop And Punkstep This album is basically a microcosm of the history of popular music. Just about every genre imaginable is present on this record. Within the first 10 minutes alone you get heavy metal, drum and bass and latin jazz (all in one song!), and the rest of the album touches on hip hop, disco, electro, even fucking opera. Despite this, the album doesn't feel cluttered or disjointed at all. The production is fantastic, and ties everything together really nicely.
DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist - Brainfreeze Rateyourmusic calls this a compilation, and that's what it is in a sense; a compilation of seriously good funk and soul music. There's a bit of scratching now and again, but for the most part, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist just let the records play. Highly recommended.
The Who Sell Out is magnificent imo.

Clan of Xymox - Medusa - 1986 The only era of time where both the light and dark sides of pop show their faces. This is pretty great. A whole other level of gothic music to The Cure and probably comparable to Cocteau Twins albeit a lot less dreamy. Judging from the cover you'd think this is will be some kind of medieval music but you'd be very wrong.. It's new wave with gothic undertones.
Pink Floyd's Obscured by Clouds. A lesser known album, but amazing none the less.
50% of the music section like Pink Floyd and 95% of those know their entire discography, pretty much.
50% of the music section like Pink Floyd and 95% of those know their entire discography, pretty much.
I don't!
The Future Sound of London - Lifeforms If you liked Amon Tobin's ISAM, you'll love this. There are so many dense and luch sounds on this album coupled by ominous breakbeats and pounding tribal beats.
It's a pop gem that got forgotten about. Believe it. If you're into dance/synth pop, this is really one to get. It's a shame she didn't make more. It's what dance pop is all about tbh, vibrant sounds with a lot of energy and an ounce of pop genius thrown in.
The Glitch Mob - Drink The Sea What can I say, I don't even know what exact genre this is but until recently this was the only complete album I'd bought. It's awesome by the way.
What's IDM?
Intelligent Dance Music. Really the only IDM artist I can name right off the top of my head is Aphex Twin. Band: Panopticon Album: Kentucky Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal/Bluegrass Year: 2012 That I like Panopticon isn't exactly news. It's masterfully done BM with the interesting addition of bluegrass and a anti-authoritarian/anti-capitalist political message that I can agree with. *Jumps around happily waving the black/red flag* And this is possibly his best release so far. It's simply speaking brilliant! It conains both black metal songs and covers of old folk songs like "Come all ye coal miners", and both are simply awesome!
