If you like good experimental music, give it a listen. What's more is that it's a pay what you want album: http://www.kidsandexplosions.com/shitcomputer/ Here's the first song of the album:

Deserter's Songs is the more famous album but it's pretty insignificant compared to this. this is a huge psychedelic feedback adventure. definitely one of the best albums of the nineties; belongs on the same shelf as stuff like Spiderland and Loveless.

It just occured to me that the album is one of the 20th/21st centuries genuine art forms. There is something really complete and aesthetically pleasing about a good album, like a modern day symphony or something.
also box sets.

King Sunny Ade - Juju Music African Dance music in the traditional sense. Essential for people wanting to delve into African music. INXS - Kick - 1987 I loved some of these songs as a kid but forgot all about them until recently and revisited that nostalgia. For some reason I feel this album is very important in what became of 90s pop rock. It just feels very 90s to me. This is JAZZ FUSION at its purest and most modern form that I've heard so far in this decade. Not that I've heard much, but I went into this on impulse and it doesn't stop leaving me refreshed after a listen. Polish Jazz is something I'm not familiar with, not that it feels cultural but damn this is good.
Celldweller - Wish Upon a Blackstar (Deluxe Edition) (2012) A work in progress since 2004, Wish Upon a Blackstar is an album that accomplishes a variety of experimental fusions of different genres of music including but not limited to electronic rock, industrial, dance, drum and bass, dubstep, and orchestral. The album takes no singular direction in terms of beat or emotion, some tracks leaving you dancing in your seat, others giving you goosebumps and sending shivers down your spine, sometimes even both. Another awesome thing is that this music is perfect music to listen to while doing stuff. It accomplishes being engrossing only when you want it to be, so it doesn't distract you from work but can make the world fade away if you so desire. To me, each song is pieced together in such a manner that each listen will sound unique and fresh as each missed detail is taken in, and the Deluxe Edition provides three advantages: 1) A better track listing. 2) Pleasant transitions between tracks. 3) Instrumental versions of each track. Either way, it's a really kickass fusion-hybrid album that I'd recommend to any fan of electronic rock. Rating: Solid 9/10.
First record of his that I've heard. I have heard a few things from him, but never really an album. But this one I'm liking a lot, it's essentially soft rock, but it's full of different touches of folk and jazz. I was pretty amazed when I heard them as I thought he was just a plain country artist. Turns out I'm a mug and make dumb assumptions. Worth a listen. Great record. Muslims aren't getting a good reputation in modern times, but when you hear things that are so passionately expressed, you can't help but look down on yourself for putting down a culture. There's no voice like it, he has some kind of pain and wonder in his voice that kind of hits you. I think he was part of The Last Temptation of Christ alongside Peter Gabriel. Very moving.
platEAU - Music for Grassbars playEAU is a Skinny Puppy side-project for the legalization of marijuana.. It's very experimental/improvisational, and has weird, trippy house beats. If you like electronic music, listen to this!
My dad gave me a bunch of records from a few local bands from the New York area from the 70's/80's a few years ago, and I found them to be the most enjoyable records I've ever listened to. One of my personal favourites, is a record by The Good Rats, called Tasty. It has a really weird range and variety of song elements (EX: Harmonies reminiscent of Yes, blues numbers, big band influences), but they all come together so well in the most sexiest ways possible. My hands down favourite track off that album is Fred Upstairs & Ginger Snappers. The albums might be a little difficult to acquire, but it is one of the best sounding records I've ever listened to.
Chrome Dreams 2 - Neil Young Great album. I suggest a listen to any fans of Neil Young.
Band: 40 Watt Sun Album: The Inside Room Genre: Doom Metal Year: 2011 I don't usually listen to all that much traditional doom. I tend to prefer the kinds of doom with harsh vocals. There are, of course, exceptions. This is the latest one. The vocals are just wonderful and the music is wonderfully heavy and slightly drone-y! Highly recommended!

So tell me; how do you feel? it's like taking acid but it's in music form
AR Kane - 69 progressive dream funk? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKx0RI8H1yQ (ok really it's just post-punk with vaguely shoegazy guitars by black guys but I wanted to call something progressive dreamfunk)
I've listened to AR Kane, it wasn't that one. But it was good.
Could someone recommend me an album with the Phil Collins/Peter Gabriel/Genesis sound? I really don't know where to look and I love their percussive 80's style and would like to hear more like it.

Potentially there's a massive variety of things you could enjoy. [editline]29th September 2012[/editline] try Brand X too, Phil's drumming is fantastic in that band.
I've listened to AR Kane, it wasn't that one. But it was good.
i've heard some samples from their other album and it was totally different. not all murky and brooding :^)

I personally am on the Love side. There are some similarities with both Lifelover, Alcest and Katatonia and as for the lyrics, well... Take this translated section from Syndafloden. "No matter how hard you try to make me realize, how much you're comforting me, helping me There is always that small, but yet so strong, spark Which somehow makes the fire burn once again Which burns me from within and out How much you fill me with lies Lies about everything being great, it'll be fine, it'll be OK" Coldly and miserably recommended for the Depressive black rock-fans out there. Planning for Burial - Leaving [$5] Genre: Shoegaze, Drone, Depressive love-sick self-loathers anthems Sample: http://planningforburial.bandcamp.com/track/oh-pennsylvania-your-black-clouds-hang-low I've already reviewed this in this thread once before, but I'm changed and duely because of this album. I discovered Planning for Burial through Enemies List Home Recording (Have A Nice Life, Giles Corey, etc.) and I always had this very subtle but bold appreciation for this album. But time after time, whenever I hear this man's music after a not-so-good day it resonates on levels with me that this earth can't withstand. Leaving is a beautiful record, a perfect combination of drone and shoegaze forming to create the most numb and incredibly pained music ever created. There is nothing about this album that isn't astounding to me. Leaving manages to lull me with quiet walls of dulled static and gloom and then lift me high up into the harsh feedback-laden wind of a hopeful depression by creating impossibly anthemic ballads of lost or far too idealistic love and happiness. Maybe it's just me, but I doubt it; Leaving is a monument to all your self-directed criticisms and foolish desires.
BNNT - _ _ [€5 EUR] Genre: Russian Noise Rock, Noise, Drone, Noisey, brutal, crazy fringe-person hate sounds exploding. Sample: http://bnnt.bandcamp.com/track/congolese-rebel-leader-thomas-lubanga-recruiting-children This a pretty ridiculously cool band. It's a bad ass noise project of one Russian man who uses this bass-like instrument in the shape of a missile and drives creeper vans around and surprises the public with crazy noise rock explosions. This album is freaky and bad ass. Lots of raw sounds and buzzy feedback with strange loud drums. Lots of eerie and politically charged statements and vibes coming from this. Really a stellar "fringe-person" insight. There are some great use of samples from people talking and awesome use of atmosphere. It's probably one of the coolest things I've heard this year. Listen to this shit.

It's splendidly glorious! If you like Swallow The Sun, this should be right up your alley!

The song order is so well thought out and I've listened to it so many times and I haven't gotten bored or found anything I don't like about any one of the songs, and I can rarely say that even on some of my other top favorite albums. It has this amazing feel to it that I can't quite explain and I would say almost anyone who's into any kind of rock or metal or anything similar will probably like it. I strongly recommend you give it a try if you haven't already. You can listen to it here
