Hopefully I won't get sued for copyright infringement.
What happens if it's legal torrenting?
I mean, I have a torrent program on my PC, and I've never downloaded anything illegal, only shit like stuff on Garry's Mod etc. How can they distinguish?
Legal stuff is fine, but they can literally look at your internet history and see every page you've went to in the last two months. There are probably other ways to see what data you're downloading too.
They don't really care either way, they just don't want anyone doing anything illegal with their service.

Invasion of privacy.
Buy the stuff they think you pirated. That way you have the license and you'll be fine.
If they don't know what you downloaded, say you were downloading legal stuff (Like game modifications, I know Fortress Forever uses a torrent).

I wish Gmod.org still used em, was much faster, and, if I did pirate :yarr:, I could use it as a scape goat.
Perfect example of a retarded dumbass.
I disagree, with thee.
This is why you use PeerGuardian and forget about your ISP.
Tell Verizon to fuck off. (oh and force-encrypt your connection[s]).
Verizon wont do anything. Something like this happened to me before, just because a company got your IP and "apparently" was told by another company that you could have been pirating something, so they were forced to email you.
Long story short, your fine.
If american charge 80.000$ per downloaded song, would they charge more for games and movies?
Eh, ISPs can measure traffic from BitTorrent but they can't figure out if you've been downloading Linux distributions or if you've been downloading the latest season of House.

Piracy
It's a crime
If they warn you, they are not going to sue you.
If they wanted to sue you, they would do it. Just stop pirating at least in the obviously illegal way (as with BitTorrent, you are uploading the data. At least in there, downloading is legal, as long as you don't upload., and you will be OK.

I can't see any difference
Sounds to me like they see you downloading and uploading a Lot, and someone picked up on it knowing that's what torrents do
Torrents can be used for legal purposes, start torrenting America's Army and if they question you further just say the installer keeps getting corrupted, I don't think they can see What you're downloading, only that you are
I wouldn't think they would contact him unless he was downloading music or whatever....
This threads remind of the episode in Southpark where Cartman downloads some music and the Swat jumps in his house with rifles and proceed to a moral speech about pirating shit.

Holy shit.
Me stealing a movie is the same as committing arson and murder?
I will never steal again.
I've never seen these campaigns you guys are talking about, but it sounds pretty dumb. :v:

At one point it was on all DVD movies; right before the menu, where the trailers were.

Pretty damn Department too.
Here's a tip: Don't use torrents
Filesharing sites are much safer

You wouldn't take a shit in a policeman's cap...
go to a better country, one that doesn't give a shit about what the RIAA or MPAA think
It's what you get for pirating honestly
Sure most people get away with it but it looks like you're gonna be one of the examples
EDIT: If you rate me disagree, you pirate all your games
EDIT2: wow there's a lot of pirates on FP
I like thinking of it like this
Think of pirating as a guy that took one of the life rafts on the titanic because it was gonna sink.
Now think of the RIAA as the shark that eats the life raft with you on it because you're in their water.
I find it funny how so many people on this forum try to justify piracy.
delete the bittorrent/vuze/utorrent ports from your fire wall

it's like heroin addicts trying to legalize heroin.
or sex addicts trying to legalize rape.
They can only catch you if they see youre seeding, so shut your torrents down after youre finished torrenting!!! and usaully they give you warnings
Why I have Never seeded my torrents from gmod, even if it is legal. And it makes playing all online games extremely laggy when I play if I'm seeding.
