I've been smoking for three years now.
It took me a year to try and quit. That first time was successful. Then a week later I started smoking again and I haven't been able to quit ever since.
At least once every couple months, I try and quit. The simple fact is this shit is more addictive than a LOT of other shit (coke withdrawals aren't as bad, fyi).
Stimulant withdrawal is far worse in terms of feeling depressed.
Well, I'm pretty much addicted to cigarettes, I didn't believe in addiction till I started, and boy was I wrong. I've had a sore throat for about 2 weeks now, I know it's from smoking. I also have some minor chest pain here and there, mostly when I lay on my sides. I cough up black fluids daily, I pretty much feel like death daily now, but even with all of this I can't seem to stop. I think about dying from it all the time but continue anyway. I want to quit, but there's a part of me that also doesn't. I was wondering what I could do without 'professional help' to quit, no patches, gum, or anything I have to use to quit. Maybe there's some sort of alternative to all of that? I wonder a lot if I'm just going to keep going till I die, it doesn't bother ME that much, but I don't want to put that on my family.
So if anyone has suggestions, post here.
my dad used candy canes as substitute. And it worked for him surprisingly!!(surprisingly because he apparently has tried to "quit" like a million times before) but yea he doesnt smoke anymore
People that can't quit are just weak. I smoke socially, sometimes I smoke a pack a day. Sometimes I don't smoke for 3 weeks. Mind over body.
Take your smokes, throw it on the ground and step on it looking it angrily and say "I HATE SMOKES!"
Or do it like me, burning the packet while complaining about corporations
The best advice I can give is that you need to replace it with something. This could be e-cigs, candy as some people suggested, some kind of reward to keep you motivated always helps. The only thing that has got me to quit was my girlfriend, we agreed we would get together but we both had to stop smoking, and it worked.
wtf you're coughing up black fluid? how long have you been smoking for, you're on the way to lung cancer my friend.
i smoke about 20 a day and have done for 8 years now and i still don't manage that, though i do get horrible chest pains.
try that champix stuff, it seems to work. read up on the side effects though, especially if you're prone to depression!

get fucked, you're no better than anybody. once you start smoking properly you'll find it hard to quit.
If you are not full of shit, and you really are coughing up black fluids daily, SEE A FUCKING DOCTOR YOU FUCKING IDIOT!. That you haven't makes me wonder if you're just making things up.

this
The only understandable reason for not seeing a doctor is if money is really tight, and you live in a country without socialized medicine.
And even then, GO NOW!

Aahaha.
So you're not actually addicted.
You're still smoking socially just to fit in.
double post
Withdrawl is known to kill people as well. AS nicotine can relieve stress, the receptors in your brain will pour it all back.
I wish I tried this when I can, and I know its inhumane as all possible. But when you got someone who cares about you, you're willing to do this:
For 2 weeks.. you need to be tied down. Without the proper willpower, you WILL go back. And YOU will hurt someone. I know I did... nicotine is a dangerous chemical. I was tied down for just one week, and I still came out hungering.. viscious. Like a large cat let out of its cage, and hasn't been fed for a solid two weeks. I tore into people, I eventually beat the crap out of one kid when he refused to "bum" me a cigaratte. What the fuck was wrong with me? I invoked anger, and aggresion upon someone who was trying to help me? My brain did not think so, it was a illogical decision.
But, do what you can.... seeek the help you must. But you have to quit. For your health, for your future.. I still smoke, its because I cannot help myself. I can't help myself in a lot of places. But you can.. you can bring yourself to the greater goal.
Please quit. Take it from smoker for almost TWO decades. This is something not for YOU, your family.. neither me. Help yourself, solve the problem. Take the steps.
Shit I am the same when I don't get my caffeine fix, but not quite to that extent.
Maybe I should stop drinking so much coffee

What the fuck is wrong with you indeed.
That isn't normal, even for withdrawal. You act like nicotine withdrawal takes away your ability to reason, which is utterly bullshit.
Dum-Dums and little caramel cubes have been known to help.
Buy an e-cigarette. I've heard those help a lot of people kick the habit.
Patches and an e-cigarette could both help, but I wish you good luck to stop smoking... it's hard.
A friend of mine's mother kept her cigarette butts in a pint of water for one week, adding as she smoked. Then drank it. She was violently sick for 3 days, but hasn't smoked since.
Do it.
Brb death by nicotine poisoning
My friend used the E-cigarette and it worked him wonders. I'd say, you don't necessarily have to quit smoking cold turkey. Go step by step into quiting. For instance, start buying american spirits, a cleaner tobacco with less chemicals in it. After american spirits start rolling your own. Pickup a pouch of tobacco, (buying tobacco by the pouch is a cheaper alternative and a healthier way to smoke.), then start rolling your own. You will be able to vary the amount of tobacco in each cig. Place less and less in each of your rolled cigarettes over time. Eventually your body will stop that urge for mass amounts of cigs. Once you get down to the most minuscule amount in each one, switch of to gum, patches, or any other methods. Id say if your craving more nicotine go back to the small rolled cigarettes again. Less the tobacco the worse your putting on your body. Im addicted myself and this method has helped me wonders. I'm not sure how it will for others but its great for me. haha
Edit:
Also, go running, do something active and good for your body everyday. Don't just stay cooped up and un healthy because it will just make matters worse. Running will help keep your lungs strong and help your lungs prevent the build-up of tar and every other nasty chemical in the cigarette thats being put into your body.
God, I hope you'll get better.
Good think I never started smoking.
Please see a doctor. Coughing fluids can't be good :ohdear:
Richard Simmon says quit smoking
Carry a bag (or five) of skittles. Whenever you want to smoke, have a skittle.
A friend of mine told me about one trick his one friend used to quit:
Every time you smoke a cigarette you have to stump it out on your bare arm before throwing it away.
I've heard it works well.
I'll say what I always say, if you are too weak minded to quit once you start, dont start.
You started.
Too late.
Go Cold Turkey bro. It'll be hard as a bitch, but as long as you don't have the substance in your body for ~3 days, you'll have the habit kicked.
sorry for insulting you i hope you win at life go go power rangers
Holy crap! You're a genius!
just gradually cut back duh
People say chew on gum or suck on lollipops. Don't disregard that, it's not bad advice.
There is part of the brain that controls addiction, and half of being addicted is this part of your brain thinking you are, the rest is physical dependence. Willpower won't do it unless you have a very long beard and have killed at least 8 bears with your fists. So yea, by substituting the nicotine for something else you can change the addiction on the mental side and then you're halfway there. Also, goddamn people, addiction isn't a rational thing, or a choice. It seems strange to people who have never had it but you can't turn it off like a switch. If you think he should just "cut back duh" try not masturbating for a year or two. That's what we are talking about here, but much, much harder.
